In this video we show you how to change the front brake pads and rotors in a Ford Fusion 2013, this procedure is done due to abnormal noises when braking or having abnormal vibrations in the steering wheel when braking.
Some safety measures that must be carried out at the time of performing this service are also explained, such as: Why the brake pedal must be pumped at the end of the work and the refilling of brake fluid in its reservoir.

Good video. I was able to do it myself. Once you do one wheel, the other one is cake. Thank you!

I really like how you opened the caliper instead of taking it completely off

For anyone who is a looking for torque values... Brake Bracket (7:00) Torque 75 ft-lbs Caliper (8:30) Torque 30 ft-lbs Lug nuts: 95 ft-lbs
@Jeremy-vb6tv
@Jeremy-vb6tv Год назад
fyi... According to service manual, 2014 fusion hybrid front brake bracket torque is 111 ft-lbs. It also says to replace the bolts with new ones, but that's probably due to the locktite applied to the bolts.
@mmaaddict78
@mmaaddict78 Год назад
Just use the good old German torque spec, guten tight! Make sure you don't go too hard or you'll enter the Russian torque spec range of brokenov.

So I appreciate the video that you put on for me because my mechanic apparently did exactly what you said not to do and I was driving for 9,000 me without front brakes he's going to be repairing them tomorrow morning. The mechanic still thinks that they're working because don't think he's ever changed out these type of brakes before

Wow, seems at least that you are fine which is good, I hope that won’t happen again to you or somebody else.

You’d know if your front brakes aren’t working… they’re the main brakes on the car.

Thanks for your comments, just if by any chance you have to work on the rear brake pads remember you have to set the car in maintenance mode, I have a video about it in my fusion playlist.

Really good torque wrench tires are like 100 lb of torque caliper brackets and pins are between 20 and 40 ft lb of torque not as tight as you can pull it using two wrenches or a breaker bar definitely don't open the bleeder unless you plan on bleeding the brakes a little bit of fluid that gets pushed back into the master cylinder can be siphoned out and replaced with fresh fluid
@kevindiaz3459
@kevindiaz3459 15 дней назад
I usually just open the cap on the fluid reservoir before pushing the caliper, and suck a little out with a turkey baster so it doesn't spill over. Would you not advise that for a Fusion with ABS? Or was it just a little easier for you to use the bleeder valve? Also, a warning to others, don't get the fluid on your paint. It will eat it.
@TheNomadMechanic

First of all thanks for your comment about avoid have the brake fluid on your paint because is super corrosive. For your initial question in my experience both practices are common and in the video to me was just easy and to show another way to do it. But what you describe you are doing is just fine as well.

Noticed that you kinda skipped the rotor removal procedure... did it take force (hammer/mallet strikes) or is it held on with bolts?
@TheNomadMechanic
@TheNomadMechanic 7 месяцев назад
Hello, thanks for your comment I just noticed what you mentioned and seems like was an edition issue, to remove the disk you have to remove the bracket that I install in the min 6:34 that is hold by two bolts and that is all, the disk will come out. Thank you for your observation.

In addition to what dude said, sometimes you really have to pound them to get them off. I've used a ball peen hammer, and smacked the rotor on the plate between where the lug studs are. Just hit it a few times, rotate, hit a few more. Be careful not to hit the studs themselves, you don't want to push them out. This should loosen the build up between the rotor and the hub. This is if it is seized pretty good, and also if trying to save the rotor. Use a ball peen hammer because it is made to withstand hitting metal, NEVER use a hammer made for hitting nails into wood as they might shatter if used on metal. A heavy mallet might be able to get it too by hitting it on the outer part of the rotor, but it might not be able to break the rotor free if it is too seized up. The rubber mallet should also be fine if trying to save the rotor. A heavy sledge will get it for sure, but will ruin the rotor, which isn't a problem if you are replacing anyway. When swinging a hammer against metal always wear eye protection.

Now I see why people be getting air in their brake system. Don’t ever open your bleeder valve unless you bleed the brakes after.
@TheNomadMechanic
@TheNomadMechanic Год назад
When you displace the cylinder after the valve is open literally you are bleeding the system if by any chance air came in, after the cylinder is displaced that air is out. Regards

Thanks, good video. Just wondering, I did the rear brakes and needed a special box attachment for my ratchet to compress the brake cylinder. Will I not need that for the front? Is this only for rear brake calipers?
@TheNomadMechanic
@TheNomadMechanic Год назад
Hello, thanks for your comments, for the front brakes you will not need that box tool, that is used in the rear because the parking brake system is in the rear but not in the front so you should be good without it.

No, you do not need a special tool ,set to maintenance mode and use your finger so you can push the piston back . I just push back the piston by thumb

Quick question. After you finished changing the rotors and brake pads. Do you connect the battery n pump the brakes to adjust them after each side being change or after both sides are done. Thanks.
@TheNomadMechanic
@TheNomadMechanic Год назад
The battery can be connected at the very end as far as the pumping the brakes I do that as soon as I finish one side and then again once I finish the other side

I’m using a 1/4 inch (7mm) Allen wrench on my gf’s 2014 fusion and it is not the right size,am I missing something or inaccurate with my numbers? Looking at the bolt it seems like it’s rounded in between the points is it possible I need a t45x torx?

Do you have to bleed the breaks ?
@TheNomadMechanic
@TheNomadMechanic 4 месяца назад
No I did not, just be careful to close the bleeding valve as soon as you finish pushing the cylinder. However if after you want to bleed the system that is a good practice and you will be adding new fluid to the system.

Torque wrench man 100ft lbs u just put prolly 130 - 150 on one or two of those lug nuts that rotor may warp. Just letting you know man dont want you to have future issues sooner than later…
