Such a superior video. Most people do not show how they unscrew and unclip everything in detail, but you do. Very well done! One suggestion: Sometimes you start each segment with a closeup and it's so close it's hard to tell where on the car you're working on at that moment. You might start each segment explaining where on the car you're at and what you're going to do next, and then zoom in and show the close-ups as you've done. Other than that, this is so much better than anything else I've seen on how to do this. Thank you.
Waste of money it's not that hard, and you don't actually have to remove the entire bumper. Just the top half loosen it up enough to get head lamp out.
So many people complaining about how hard it is. I’m 20 a broke college student, can’t afford full insurance so hitting a deer ain’t covered. Damaged all the way back to the upper radiator support, I don’t have money to take it to the shop so I replaced everything myself off of diagrams cuz some of these don’t have RU-vid videos. I replaced from bumper side fender shutter fog light head light radiator support header mounted and everything that’s on it
Great tutorial. very helpful ! Thanks! but ;) you dont need unscrew (left and right ) whole slide. example on 6:00 min. video. only unscrew main screw. ofcourse you must pull plastic pin ( 3 per side) example 1:50 on this video. wireds are long :-) you can unpluged it on top side
Using a 10 inch quick adjusting groove joint pliers with curved jaw from Home Depot I was able to twist and pull the light bulb without removing the bumper. This was on a 2016 fusion. I know have a 2018 Fusion hybrid and thankfully on these year models you don’t have to do any of this its right there in the open ez change.
alex khamis Technically, no. You have to remove the 5 thumb screws - 3 inside the wheel well and two on the bottom of the bumper. You then have to remove all the screws and clips at the top of the bumper. This should allow you to swing out the side of the bumper far enough to remove the headlight.
I just bought a 2013 se on Friday. I wanted to my put hid lights into it, but first I wanted to see how the halogens looked. However, I was anxious..lol. So, Friday night I put my leds into the fogs. Saturday evening I decided it was time to put the hids into highs and lows. I already had the bottom piece and the thumb screws out of the wheel wells from what I put the fogs in (it got dark and I didn't have time to reinstall). After reading your comment that says you should be able to pull the bumper far enough away to get the headlight assembly out (impossible to change light bulb without doing so), it worked fine on one side. I went to do it on the otherside and the bumper..fell off. I did not touch the screws in the wheel well, or the bumper bracket (5:30-6:30). The whole bumper did come off though. I don't believe I broke anything and it fits back perfectly o.O..
Same here mine are different too. And no need to drop the cover on the bottom ( remove the 5 screws at the front attached to the bumper) or remove the bumper brackets.
Great video man, i have a question though, im currently rebuilding my 2016 ford fusion and there is a cable that im confused on where it goes, its the one by the hood tab that you press to open it, its the only one by itself up there and it runs along the left headlight. -Thanks
Wow, Man! You are brave! Bravo! I lost all hope as you progressed taking off screw after screw after screw after.... help! another six! Oh no, more screws.... honestly, I gave up... plus all the connectors to unplug... I am sure I would never remember what screw goes where and in what order, lol. It would be painful to think I was finished when I have still 20 screws that I couldn't remember I took out, ha ha ha.... Yeah, this would raise my motivation to go the the Ford Dealership and let them deal with it. You did really excellent! Are you a pro car mechanic? Can I hire on as an apprentice with you? I'm sure I'd learn a lot! Thanks again for the great clip!
I saw a few comments about replacing the upper grill. One said they did have to take off the bumper, the others did not further comment. Do you have to take off the bumper to replace the upper grill?
Great Video! I removed the bumper and removing two plastic brackets holding the bumper edges to fenders is not necessary. Just remove the center plastic clip and loosen two bolts on each plastic brackets. Just gently pull out the bumper edge and it will come out.
Really, really good vid and explanation. Not that hard of a job but super to see this vid first. I tried replacing my low beam bulbs without removing the bumper- no can do. Many thanks for this vid!
I was looking at my granddaughter's 2017 fusion, where she had a collision that damages her driverside bumper and fender. I noticed that they are torn-out holes holes under the bottom that the bumper is secured. What is the name of that part, I would like to replace it. Is that you called the underbody cover?
This guy has taken so many unnecessary steps. No need to take off the panel underneath, the plugs can be gotten to when the bumper cover is released. It only weighs a few pounds. Hold it with one hand, unclip with the other. No need to unbolt the clip at the fender. Just pull the bumper cover from the clip. It will "unsnap"... Like its designed to.
I just want to swap my wife's grille out, since it's the only chrome on an otherwise dark blue/black car. Ford is bullshit for this one lol. Just a few more screws...19 screws later...
It's hard to respect any video where the guy is using a screwdriver or needle nose pliers and leveraging these improper tools on a painted surface instead of the right tool, a fastener remover, and maybe, just maybe, lay a rag or cardboard on those sharp painted edges. The button remover tool can be had for around $7 bucks on Amazon or ebay, not a lot of dough.
You say you don't need to do this to change the bulbs,.....can you elaborate on this, please? The Ford engineers that designed this should be publically shot in front of all Fusion owners.
Is there a way to bend it open just enough to get a hand in there? I have a dead bird stuck in there and I really don’t wanna take 50 screws and clips out 🤦🏻♀️
i'm convinced they designed it this way so that you would have to take it to a ford dealership and pay a ford mechanic take it off. there is no need to have to do all this just to take off the bumper cover other than what i just mentioned. it's all a marketing ploy between the car companies and the dealerships.
dennis schneider You may be able to change the high beam and side marker bulbs without removing the bumper, but you will need small hands. To remove the entire headlight assembly, you have no other choice but to remove the screws and clips holding the bumper and then pull it out just enough so that the bottom of the assembly can clear the bumper. Just FYI, the bottom of the headlight has a piece of plastic that is about 1.5 inches that you can't see. That's why you have to move the bumper.
You forgot to mention the wiring harness attached to the bumper that will snap and break if you don't know it's there and one side of the bumper comes off when you take the 37th bolt out. I learned this the hard way and now my outside air temp reading defaults to 50 degrees at all times when driving my 2014 Fusion. I hate this car with a passion. Plastic bumpers should never require 16 bolts, screws, and clips/brackets.
My directional bulb is out. You’re kidding me right? I have a 2017 Fusion. Please tell me I can just loosen around the headlight and get my paws in there and pull that bulb. Way to screw over the consumer. Ford dealership-“bulbs out? No problem, that will be $400.00 and take an hour and a half. Ridiculous. Thanks for the video.
Does anyone know if the Ford Fusion front bumper from a 2017 will fit on the 2015/16 Fusion? I'm thinkin on buying the 17 bumper so I can upgrade my 2015 front bumper (just for the look of the square fog lights)
I just want to replace my damn headlamp bulbs! Is there an "easy" way? All I've ever read is that I have to remove the bumper, which is downright depressing considering I had my old car's headlamp change time down to under 30 seconds...
No need to remove so much screw’s ,it is 20min job to change bulb’s. Why did u take off underbody shield as well...totally no necessary..unplug shutter and main connector and that’s it..
What does that last electrical connection do? Is that for the "hood latch" dash warning light? I removed my bumper to add a tow bar base. Put the bumper back on and now my "Hood Latch Light" stay on all the time. Trying to figure out what went wrong. Hood latch works fine, just the warning light stays on.
Dude I was installing a larger intercooler and nobody at all that did them for the 1.6 did a video about it so tanks so much for making this video showing how to take the bumper one
I could not load the video for some reason but does anyone know the name of or part number for the black plastic clips that hold the bottom most accent trim pieces to the bumper? There are 8mm hex screws but then there are black clips (look like a pin that pushes into and locks in the trim pieces). I tore part of the right side trim away but as I looked underneath it seems if I could get my hands on these clips I could re-attach it myself. Thanks!
Remove the 17 and newer. Mine is not in that spot. It's worse. Also none of the screws are the same and the things on the side are no longer there. You also had some spacer in front. All different.
Been trying to locate the horn on my 2015 fusion energi. Seems like I have to take off font bumper. You know better,,, is that the case? If so thanks for the great video.
This video is helpful but something are a little different on the 19 like the thumb screws in the wheel wells are now 1 pull tab and 2 screws also the wiring harness goes from the right side of the car across the bumper to the other side so you can't fully take the bumper off because of it
