Thanks for the vid! I see you mentioned counterclockwise on the drill. That the same for most Fords? I'm planning on priming an 82 Mustang. Also, when you turn the crank, is that counterclockwise as well (if you are facing the engine from the front of car)?
No problem, thank you for the comment. Correct on the distributor rotation, counter clockwise. When you are turning the crankshaft from the front of the engine , clockwise rotation. You can use the 15/16 bolt in the crank most times if you do not have a tool .
Great video thanks. One question. My plug in electric drill struggled and smokes. So I’m going to run an air drill next. Spinning the pump feels a heavy drag is this normal ? I’m using 10W40 oil. I worried that the distributor gear will sheer with the load.
Yes, I hope you're able to get those Oiling mod videos back up as well. I'm getting real close to when I'll be working my 302 block over. Did you spin the drill in reverse or does it not matter?
Dumb question. So is the time window between priming and first start up a big deal? Just wondering if doing it while still on the stand could have been for illustration purposes only type of thing.
Good question . No , I did the full engine oil prime and then it went to the dyno . Think of it this way , when a person starts up an engine after sitting all winter they don't normally prime it. We are just clearing out all the air and making sure everything is well oiled at first start , assembly lube will keep the bearings safe also .
@neilm9032 That's why I use a large drill.you can turn it by hand with a speed wrench, but you have to turn it really fast and for a considerable amount of time to get full pressure. I have done it, but it is a workout. 😮💨Think of how fast the pump spins even at idle. I hope that helps.
Tony Ferreira Awesome job any engine will it work on 302 ford racing engine it set for 3 years the distributor is all setup l don't want to pull distributor can l prime at the oil senor?
If you can supply pressurized oil from another source through that port it would work . simpler really,to do it the way I did though , mark your rotor position on the distributor with a marker mark your distributor position at the base and onto the block . It's now ready to take your distributor out and you have the ability to reinstall it exactly where it was before. You will need a 1/4" socket to prime a 302 , and follow the how to in the video.
@@blueovaldude Thank you l will try through the port first l have a pressurized setup, right how the distributor setup dual points am no longer confident in my ability l just needed 2nd opinion.
@@MrTomcat108 you're welcome, that oil gallery feeds the entire engine. Just make sure your oil filter has a check valve so it doesn't go straight through the filter and into the pan . The path of least resistance .
@@blueovaldude Hi it has a Motorcraft Ford Racing High Performance Oil Filter High quality silicone anti-drain back valve is this OK Thank you for all your help l ask a mechanic what is the cost to prime my engine he said $300.00 that's nuts to come to my home.
My first instinct is. Are you certain the 1/4" socket is engaging the oil pump drive shaft and turning it? It turns with some pretty good resistance. You could use a speed wrench attached to a 1/4" drive 1/4" socket. Btw it has to be a thin socket especially on 8.2 deck engines.
Thanks for the reply. So being the novice I am and lack of instructions with my filter relocation kit. SPEEDWAY MOTORS KIT. I had plumbed the kit wrong so I was not pumping oil through the system correctly. Repluming fixed the issue. Out to in on the kit hoses not in to in. Fyi.
Have you dummy checked the kooks headers in the car yet, and if so did you have to take the master cylinder and steering shaft off to install? P.s. I dig the car, I’m working on a fairmont
I haven't checked header fitment yet . It currently has a 90's mustang style brake master cylinder on a factory manual master cylinder adapter . Team Z k-member, a arms And a flaming river rack and shaft . Which is exactly what the headers were designed for , they also are slip fit . Crossing my fingers they work without issues . What style Fairmont ? Sport coupe, ESO , wagon or 4 door ?
@@dannybeck6697 yeah , mustang subframe connectors only fit mustangs . I built my own connectors for my Fairmont . If you have a large rear quarter windows you have an ESO Fairmont. Like ETCG's car .
