Just got mine and installed one of those garage, smart electric hoist. Still testing and playing with the hoist, but I’m pretty excited about it.

That's awesome! I'm actually looking at getting a hoist as well that I can mount on the underside of my deck. At 300 pounds, the tent is a bit of a bear to put on/take off, even with another strong person to help.

Nice, fantastic setup. 2 questions: 1) What's the distance from top of the liner to the top of the closed tent? I'm looking for 35" or less to clear my garage door. 2) Is the box portion that holds the entire tent and upper assembly easily removable? By easily, I mean 2 people for lifting and basic tools at most. This would be nice for taking it off from end of summer to springtime.
@themaverickhntr
@themaverickhntr 6 месяцев назад
I'm not exactly sure what you are asking in question 1. What do you mean by liner? For number 2, yes it's very easy to remove. There are four bolts that hold the tent on brackets attached to my cargo rack. That's it! Four nuts to attach. Remove four nuts to remove. The whole thing lifts right on/off in one piece. I was able to do it my teenaged son. But the tent does weigh almost 300 pounds so I'd say ideally having a third person as a spotter would be a good idea.

Great video, sick set up. Wondering what’s your gas mileage after all the mods? The lift kit, the bed rack, tent, etc…

I get about 22-23 mpg. Almost all rural back road mountains. I can get better on the interstate but I don't do a lot of highway driving. There are also almost no flat areas where I live. It's all up and down.

I have a question. I decided to buy eibach springs after i saw your video and had them installed. Im having an issue though. After the install, i noticed i pretty much lost all of my downward travel in my shock. Going over a speed bump at 20-25mph, i hear a loud bang when the suspension is coming downward. I can only assume that the noise im hearing is the shock bottoming out. Do you have this issue? I seem to only have an inch and a half to 2 inches of downward travel after the install. How did you combat this if you did not also replace the strut with a longer shock?
@themaverickhntr
@themaverickhntr 3 месяца назад
If you drive quickly over an open space like a big pothole or a speed bump where your tire is going to momentarily come off the ground you'll hear this sound. I don't think it's a strut issue. I think it's the springs rapidly expanding due to the fact the tire has left the ground allowing the spring to decompress because the weight of the truck just came off it. I have found I can eliminate the issue 90-plus percent of the time by just slowing down and not being hard on the accelerator over such obstacles. It's much worse if you are actively accelerating when it happens. Although the sound is annoying I don't believe it's causing any actual problems.

seems tent creates a wind break up top, probably lowers gas MPG at 30+ speeds?

Here is a great option. Look at the Ford Maverick camper tent under to RU-vid channel "Gear Gadget Experiments" . Affordable, easy set-up, and easy to take down and put up if you want to drive away. Too many of the fancy truck tents are very expensive- and you can't drive away easily without taking down everything and re-setting up.

if you were to buy again today, would you still go with the overland version or go with the standard condor? we are torn. leaning towards overland.
@themaverickhntr
@themaverickhntr 4 месяца назад
The regular version is cheaper and lighter. I wouldn't mind the lighter weight because 300 pounds for the Overland is a bit of effort to get on and off my cargo rack. But I like the aluminum shell for long term durability. Hard to say since I've never seen the regular version but honestly the regular one is probably sufficient unless you are out there constantly.

@@themaverickhntr Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah the taking it on and off is a concern. Leaning towards the overland 2 xl simply cuz we will have a grand kid and a dog in there, want to make sure we have a bit of space. Thanks again and great video!

This is true. But it's not like I'm camping all the time. I just take the tent off the truck most of the time and put it on for camping trips.

How are your CV axles? I heard lift kits destroy the CVs
@themaverickhntr
@themaverickhntr 11 месяцев назад
I'm 3,000+ miles in so far and absolutely no problems. It seems like just about everyone who had issues with the CV axles used the puck-style lifts that bolt onto the struts. This lengthens the strut and then I think the struts were ripping up the CV axle boots. You don't have that issue with the spring lift. Also, I think Ford had a bad batch of CV axles at some point, because I've seen lots of posts online from people needing front CV axle replacements on stock trucks.

I honestly can't see why people spend all this money and go to all this trouble instead of just setting up a tent on the ground. That way you can still drive your truck to go places.

What kind of mpg you getting with that on the hwy?
@themaverickhntr
@themaverickhntr 6 месяцев назад
Oh, that flat front surface on the tent will definitely create some drag and cost you a few MPGs. That's why I don't just leave the tent on the truck when I'm not using it. It's pretty easy to take off and put in the garage.
