I love the people saying "get a real truck" or "bed needs to be bigger." Bro it's made for people who would otherwise get an Escape or CX5 or Outback but would also like a pickup bed to occasionally haul a lawn mower or pick up a new fridge from home Depot and don't want to have to rent/borrow a trailer.
@fordmaverickmaniac

Good points. A recent video I posted shows the window stickers of my 2 Maverick XLTs cost just $300 more than 1 F-150 XLT. Whenever I need more "bed" I will use a utility trailer, high rack, or hitch mounted cargo carrier.

The same people that don't consider this a real truck or the same people that get some ridiculously lifted Super Duty, that they rarely take off road, and even when they do they still managed to get it stuck. These people are not about actually enjoying the abilities of a pickup, they're about showing off and wanting to look intimidating to others. It's amazing how a lack of personal confidence can influence someone's choice in a vehicle

So true and its actually a decent moderate offroader. Most people are pleasantly surprised at its capabilities

If it weren't for the hit to towing, this would be an extremely attractive package for this pickup. As it stands the FX4 with a tow package still seems more versatile over all.

Agreed, that’s my gripe about it as well. Otherwise the Tremor would be the way to go.
@spyder000069

All they need to do is bring the dual clutch locker as an option to the FX4 4k packages and this would check off all the boxes. I don't need extreme off road suspension but I do need to be able to get up some of the steeper loose gravel hill trail entrances while pulling a trailer with a couple of atvs or I end up having to park at some muddy trail head / parking areas. The locker would provide the extra confidence for those situations plus living in the country in the northern midwest sometimes means 8+ inches of snow and the locker would help when things get interesting.

I feel like if you need to tow more than what this can do, then you might need a "real truck" . 4,000 isn't that much... Even the Santa Fe / Ridgeline can do 5000. 🤷‍♂️

I can see the market niche for this truck. I lived for years where I did some of the most difficult off-roading possible. Obviously, this truck would not work for that. Today, I spend most of my time in an area where the biggest 4WD challenge is muddy roads, farm fields, and occasional significant winter storms. The Maverick Tremor would work well enough to tackle all of those challenges adequately, plus offer the advantage of lower entry cost and better fuel economy. I still have my "tough" 4WD for when I need that capability, but for my 4WD needs for most of the time, the Maverick Tremor would work fine. That said, I would not buy one anytime soon because it is based on the Bronco Sport platform that, despite its 4WD capability in Badlands form, has had pretty awful reliability so far. I've owned Ford 4WD vehicles for most of the last 50 years, but Ford's reliability has really suffered of late--they need to address that. To be fair, Jeep, Ram, and GM 4WD reliability have not been much better, though.

It's a really capable little 'truck'. I think if you live in the city and on weekends take the family or whatever hiking / camping it's a perfect all-rounder. During the week you have the bed for carrying stuff. And not too bad on gas, easier to park than a Ranger or F150.

The “standard model” only has 4K towing if it has the 4K tow package, which needs up transmission cooler and radiator. It is only available with the 2.0L AWD model. It is not available with tremor package nor with the hybrid. AWD without tremor is 1487 payload. Tremor is 1125. The weight of skid plates and the beefed up drivetrain namely the clutch pack add a lot of weight and take away from payload 👍

I just purchased a 23’ Bronco Sport Badlands this Sunday and am incredibly happy with my purchase. Do I regret not waiting for this? No. Definitely not. I think the Maverick is just about as capable for the kind of overlanding I plan on doing, but I think the practicality of having an SUV is just too great. I did initially want a Maverick but they’re still a bit overpriced.

Yeah, I really like the Tremor mainly due to the factory lift and front chin clearance advantage. If I didn’t care about the front clearance I’d buy the FX4 and my local Ford dealer does a lift and I’d still get the better towing.

The diminished towing capacity is disappointing. Personally I'd be happy with the FX4 package.
@henryalvarez4146
@henryalvarez4146 Год назад
It's always a give take when you have a more off road capable vehicle, softer shocks for that and more firm road worthy shocks for towing. It all comes down to which is more a practical application for your personal use. I'd be good with the FX4 but I do love that Tremor tho!
@ALMX5DP
@ALMX5DP Год назад
@@henryalvarez4146 the funny thing to me is that the Bronco Sport has an increased towing capacity over the standard Bronco Sport, despite being more offroad capable. It's only a small 200lb bump in that case, but that still makes the Bronco Sport Badlands have more towing capacity than this Tremor despite the same rear diff and likely similar offroad suspension and such.
@augmach5
@augmach5 Год назад
Yeah that's the big rub with the Tremor - subtract for elevation @ 5k feet and you are already down to a legal 1800 including payload - That's pretty weak as that now puts 2100 lb teardrops offline which can usually be pulled by a Subaru or easily by a Highlander. If a Tremor comes later in life with a more reasonable tow limit might think about trading in our lifted Lariat/Lux FX4 -
@spyder000069
@spyder000069 Год назад
This is an easy fix. Ford just needs to put the dual clutch locker as an option that can be added to FX4 / 4K tow without the lift and suspension of the tremor. Its incredible that they didn't do this from the start. Just about every other model they have allow you to select the electronic locker as an option.

I've got an FX4+tow on order and I keep thinking that I should bump it up to the Tremor but then I realize that I'll probably never NEED the added offroad capability. I don't plan on suddenly driving the most rugged roads my vehicle can handle just because it can. Soft roads and prepared trails to campsites? Sure, and the FX4 should have zero problem handling that. But I do expect that towing a 3000 pound trailer WILL be something that I end up doing at least occasionally and I'm annoyed that Ford is making us choose. Why not offer the 4k tow package on the Tremor, or offer the upgraded rear diff on the FX4, call it the FX4 Level 2 like they used to with the old Ranger!!

Order day 1 because last time, the Mav sold out in a week. Now that millions more know it exists, my bet is 2024MY sells out in 1 day. You can see features I recommend on my channel.

This thing is in a pretty interesting place in the market, kind of unique among "soft roaders" (other than its Bronco Sport cousin) thanks to that drivetrain, and as shown here it really makes a difference. The big problem, of course, is that it's basically the same price as a Ranger XLT FX4 and there's no contest between the two off road, and unlike a lot of smaller truck vs. bigger truck comparisons that get made (where it's a loaded midsize at MSRP vs. a barebones work truck half ton with discounts) you're really not giving anything up by going with the Ranger, aside from a bit less style in the interior. I can still see the Mav Tremor making sense in a few edge cases though, like people who live in apartments with cramped parking but still want to get on trails or whatever.

Maverick: Better MPG, smoother ride, more interior space for passengers, integrated trailer brake system. Ranger: Better offroad, higher tow capacity but no integrated brake controller, last year before refresh which might hurt resale value later on and new ranger model has many upgrades.

My XLT Tremor with the inverter, HPR paint, and a sliding rear window is $32,940 MSRP and we are paying $29,940 at a good dealer. In a ranger(as I just priced out) I could get a XL with the sliding window and locker for $35,370. But cannot get the inverter without a $1200 package or the HPR paint without a $2500 package which may overlap with the inverter package. So to get a Ranger I would have to pay $2500-$5500 more for the Ranger similarly equipped as our Tremor. Also the Maverick is just slightly more comfortable, roomier and easier for my wife to get into and drive. Also that price comes with the standard bumper hitch rated at 3500lbs. Hitch is $495 pushing a less than ideal for us and possibly others Ranger with less flash to $3-6000 over what a Maverick Tremor can be had for. Payload is similar, though it has a 6" bigger bed. Also legal ratings aside a set of air bags for the rear will beef up the payload and stabilize the towing, making it 4000lb capable everywhere except the mountains. There is alot of value in the Maverick Tremor, especially for off grid, offroad, island dwellers like us.

@@user-lf5yx8gq8l Interesting, I have to admit that I didn't realize you could get a Tremor that cheap. I seriously considered a Mav last year, before the Tremor package was an option, and the XLT FX4 configs I was looking at were coming close to the mid-30s so I'm surprised the Tremor doesn't push it up close to 40. The Ranger I ended up buying had a sticker of almost 40 (XLT 300a FX4) so yeah, I guess there's more of a price differential there than I thought. Being able to get one at a discount makes a big difference too, when I was in the market there were insane markups on the Mav, and I think it's still hard to get one below MSRP here in SoCal.

Look. You can't say the Maverick Tremor isn't good for offroading because it's Unibody. One of the best off road vehicles of the last 40-50 years was unibody. The Jeep Cherokee XJ. Now if you had said the Maverick isn't a good offroader because of its fully independent suspension, that would have more credibility. Clearly it's no rock crowler like the old XJ was, but for light offroading, it's probably fine.

You said the offroad segment is really popular, but where I live in Alberta, it seems like most 4x4 owners are not taking their trucks offroad. In the past, all 4x4s had mud terrain tires and a lift. However, in the last few years I see a lot of black trucks that are clean and look like a show truck. I have seen Jeeps with 20-22 inch rims and low profile tires. I even saw a Jeep truck that looked like it was lowered. Out of all the 4x4 trucks I see, only a few are used offroad. I have seen a few that are painted with black bedliner, and a couple of trucks have Australian style barwork. Most 4x4s are used on paved roads, and I think the people that don't go offroading are losing interest in the 4x4 trend. They seem to be moving toward the more trendy and popular hybrids or electric vehicles.

I bought the hybrid version of the Mav because I don't go off road. It does everything I need. I moved a house with it. From full size couches, beds, dining room sets to refrigerators. Like you said I also see plenty of lifted trucks with big AT tires and they never go off road.. All for show. My hybrid will do 99% of what those people are using their trucks for.

Once our Flaken AT3s wear out I am looking at either Goodyear Duratracs (extreme end of ATs) or Maxxis Bighorn MTs(proper big lug mud tires. Both can be had in 31x10r17ish sizes which is the max that a Maverick wheel well can hold. We will also be looking at a 1.5-2" spacer lift aswell. Bringing overall ground clearance within a hair of a Bronco Sasquatch.

@@user-lf5yx8gq8l You should just buy a more appropriate vehicle at that point. You've effectively destroyed your MPG advantage. You're reducing your already limited suspension flex with a space lift, you're also making it ride and handle worse. And no you're still nowhere near the clearance of a Bronco Sasquatch besides where the real Bronco's rear diff sits (i.e. literally everything else is far higher up off the ground). All that and yet you still don't have a proper low range transfer case, you don't have a proper rear diff lock, and even though you've got aggressive tread tires, they're so small they don't have anywhere the same level of float as you get on a proper truck. I like this Maverick Tremor as it sits here. Its right at the edge of where the Maverick's off-road abilities make sense. Going beyond this is silly. Its the same thing I tell to people I know who have kitted out Subarus. You're just ruining what your vehicle was actually good at and still not being nearly as capable as a real BOF, 4Lo transfer case, rear locker truck would be...

@@iggy-pg6gq My truck gets dirty driving back and forth to work. I only wash it once a week and I still can't keep it clean. The only way to keep it shiny is to wash it everyday. I thought only sports cars got that kind of special attention. The only way to keep a black 4x4 clean and scratch free is either don't take it off-road or paint it with bedliner.
