Sorry about the audio. We forgot to hit record on our Mics so we had to use the Camera mics instead. We REALLY liked the Ford Mach-e but its just not made for winter. What do you guys think?
@brucemacneil

Well, here in the heart of almost-Arctic Quebec - normal winter temps of -20C and colder - the Mach-E is very very popular among my neighbours and everyone loves theirs. Really - it is hard to go wrong with any EV - but the Mach-E is super popular.
@MatthewMoniz

@@brucemacneil I love the mach-e but compared to an ev with a heat pump in cold temps having a heat pump makes a big diff. Even little things like warming up the car is much faster with a heat pump. I'm 100% open to getting one as soon as Ford puts one in. It's definitely one of my fav EVs that I've driven. How long have you had yours for?

I dunno. I live in MN and charge in my garage overnight. I have the ER version but I have no problem getting where I need to go in an average day on a full charge. If you are the kind of person that puts tons of hours of driving in everyday, an EV is not for you. That's not a Mach-E issue, it's an EV issue. My friends with Teslas get roughly the same amount of distance on a full charge in winter that I do. 🤷‍♀

I’m from Toronto. Just picked up the Mach E a few weeks ago and have been driving it non stop. Including a couple of trips to Bobcaygeon. I was similarly worried about winter range hit, but I’m happy to report it’s not bad at all. The range hit due to the lack of heat pump is over exaggerated. I had a Model Y before, and it saw about 30% range hit. The Mustang sees about 35% at most. It is nowhere near 50% like the video claims. Winter range depends on a lot of factors, - how you’re driving, if you’re blasting the heat, etc. But preconditioning my car, setting temp to 25, fan on 3, I consistently get at least 250KM at 80% charge. If I drove more conservatively and turn down the fan, I could easily get 275KM. That is in line with the Model Y. If you’re doing your math….you drove roughly 200KM both ways and had 100KM left. That’s about 300KM range - and about 35% range loss. How are you calculating 50% range loss? Bottom line, the range loss on the Mach E is about the same as Model Y. It is not a cause for concern.
@XTRLFX
@XTRLFX 8 месяцев назад
Not sure what battery the have in the video (SR or ER). But the SR doesn't get to 400 km range even in summer in the first place. More like 370 km. Long range even in winter should be close to 300 km. Maybe 250 if you get really unlucky. I drive a 21 model SR RWD, so in my 3rd Winter with the Mustang now. Short range driving really kills range. But the 100km trip? That shouldn't be an issue.
@zachford5524
@zachford5524 5 месяцев назад
I was very confused by this too. They had plenty of range left. I just did a similar drive in my Mach E in summer weather and my range was about what they said in this video. I drove it my normal commute for another two days before charging.

I've owned Mach-E in Winnipeg since 2021. I rarely go out on a road trip in winters and range anxiety is not an issue for me. But those who drive long distances (200km) upwards in winters, this car is not for you. I think charging at tesla superchargers would really overcome that issue. I really love this car and one of the best vehicles I've ever owned/driven!

I don't get it, you had plenty of range left when you got back. And how is 36% ending low? That's almost 40%...more than "a quarter of a tank" if it was a gas car.
@mrjonlor
@mrjonlor 7 месяцев назад
So let me do the math here. You started out with a 417km estimated range and drove approximately 210km and made it back with 100km (or 80km) remaining. Sounds to me like you had an effective range of 290km which is about 70% of the original range estimate… Doing the math the other way, you drove about 200km and used 64% of your battery capacity. Solving for your total range, you end up with about 312km or about 75% of the original estimate. That seems like a far cry from “over 50%”. Also, not saying heat pumps aren’t awesome, but they’re also not magic. They get less efficient as the outside temperature drops so there is a limit below which it’s actually better to have a conventional resistive heater like the Mach E does.
@IrishBog

But why do you trust the figure of 80 left. They just showed that the predicted range left is untrustworthy

I've had an MME for two winters now, and range is not terrible in the winter compared to others. Heat pump would be nice to get a few extra kms in the cold. You need to set a destination in the Ford Nav app for the Guess-o-Meter to work more accurately. The car doesn't know if you will be driving in city or on highway until you do that and will only give you a guess based on mixed driving. In your case, you were all highway and setting the destination would have been far more accurate. As for back seat head space, it is far better than the MY. I can't sit in the back seat of the MY without my head hitting the roof but I can sit comfortably in the back of the MME. I've ridden in both and the MME ride is much nicer than the very stiff MY IMHO.

Entertaining video, but the Mach-E does in fact have a "thermal management" heat pump system. It's not quite as efficient as the Tesla system, but it's there. Watch Munro Live's breakdown comparing the two systems titled, "Mach-E Thermal System Part 2" I drove my 2023 Mach-E GT in the sub-zero temps here in Nebraska this winter and had no issues.

I have the Mach E here in Scotland and yes in winter it definitely looses a lot of range due to no heat pump. Not a big deal for me as we don’t get your temperatures. What is have noticed is it actually charges a lot fast than some cars with heat pumps which is strange. Preconditioning is a much in winter to get the best range. I love mine i just wish Ford would do these updates on the front screen. Show when preconditioning Show charge rate at a fast charger Show song playing when using the Nav The is so much free space on the screen i just don’t get why they don’t use it more and just use the information we should be able to see.

With Tesla/Ford supercharger integration, charging EVs won't be such a big problem. I think it's a mentality change where, when you charge, you don't charge to 80 percent. Instead, you'd charge 20-40 percent to get where you can charge overnight to your full charge capability.
@CarMaintenanceGuy
@CarMaintenanceGuy 3 месяца назад
There's two prerequisites before buying an EV. #1 Are you a home owner so you can install a charging station? #2 Do you already own an gas vehicle and the EV will be your second vehicle? If you can't answer YES to both of those questions, absolutely DO NOT buy an EV. Even if you have an old beater ICE car, that's good enough to have in case you can't charge. After owning 3 different EV's, let me be honest. They are NOT for everyone. Are you a condo or apartment dweller? DO NOT buy or lease an EV. It is a ROYAL pain in the ass to rely on public charging stations. People are big time assholes and park ICE cars at charging stations and simply don't care to leave it open. I've been to 5 different charging stations and was unable to charge. #1 the charging stations that worked at the first place I went to were all full. The rest of the stations said "NETWORK ERROR" and did not function. I went to numerous other ones and somebody had vandalized/cut all of the charging cables making it impossible to charge. Talk about RANGE ANXIETY. Man, it SUCKS like you have NO IDEA! I love EV's, but charging them and getting good range is so hard a lot of the times, it's not even funny. I wouldn't fathom doing a long road trip in one of these. Trust me... KEEP YOUR GAS CAR!

AS I remember the range you where takling about the Mach E reach about 75 % of it's range, not bad in a cold Winter. Test here in Scandinavia shows that mach E drive about the same Kw/km as ID7 with heat pump. The heat pump can give you about 2 percent extra range. Two ID7 was testes against each other, one with heat pump the other without. The one with the heat pump drove about 20 km longer (13 miles).
