When I saw Ken Block ripping one of these, I had to get this NEW HPI Sport 3 Flux. A 70+ Mph Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400 RC Car (Brushless). Straight out the box it has some problems, but once they were sorted it runs really nice. 70+ Mph speed run attempt as soon as the speed gears arrive (well, weather dependant)

I recently got an HPI RS4 creator kit, fitted one of their '98 Imprezza Monte Carlo bodies, some Amazon aluminium rims with Fastrax rally blocks & the brushless system from my Mad Van VE & I've got to say I'm pretty impressed with it, it handles really well, you can powerslide it with ease & it's nice & quick on 2S. 3S is a bit much, especially in the wet. I also fitted a set of shocks from a Vaterra Kemora to give it the ride hight it needed. Oh.. It constantly gets stones jammed in its steering so I've velcro'd an old buggy body over the chassis & it's fine now. I got a E-Tron and left the long version in your shorts.... No wait, I left a longer version of my take on this car on the E Stang SHORT you posted. I really like this HPI platform, it needed the tweaks with the body and yes it's a smooth surface chassis. I did not have any steering link issues yet but thankyou to everyone that brought attention to the issues with that. So as RTR touring cars. HPI , then the ol' V100 (price point), then the Fazer (what were they thinking? Where are the freakin spare parts and upgrades?!) Tamiya and Traxxas, crickets.

Your review is excellent and you probably saved some people from frustration on Christmas morning. If you opened the box as a present and took it out for a run and found the chassis scraping everywhere you might be upset. When you look at its competition there may be other choices like the brushless Kyosho Fazaer Mk, 2, the Associated Hoonicorn with battery, and the Traxxas 4-Tecs with great looking bodies might be better. Thanks for your review. Keep up the good work.

@@TomleyRC Quality control has been a problem for a very long time. I was working with school club 20 years ago or more and we had a deal for the old RS4 Sports. We had to check each car for screws that were not completely screwed in, some screws were too long and the diff wouldn't turn and the steering racks were often missing an e clip and the rack would just come apart.

That's a fair old wedge to lay down on a 1/10 road car without adjustable camber and toe. For £200 less you could buy a brushed HSP Flying Fish and have £200 for a decent brushless combo and a few quality lipos

I like the driveshaft over the Sprint 2s belt drive. Makes it more than difficult to rearrange the electronics to fit in a 3s or 4s battery. I have an older castle 4600kv system in my Sprint 2. It's practically uncontrollable on 3s. Now it's a shelf queen.

I take it you've never owned a 1:1 Mustang before? Lol My 98 GT ran circles around most. I got something more practical later, but after 57K miles, my Mustang had zero problems. The most reliable car I have ever owned. Can't say the same for any other brand I've owned, including Honda, GM, Dodge, Mazda, etc.

I appreciate your honesty Tomley. I totally agree for a kid or someone that doesn't know anything about working on a RC or has the correct tools I definitely wouldn't recommend something that immediately needs working on out the box. Still pretty cool though for someone that has experience and tools.

So I have the Traxxas (blehk) 4-tec supra and have the same issue with the body rubbing on 1 side up front. the tires are very wide but it seems like there's too much side roll with the body and it catches on the sticky tires. Don't fault HPI too much, although its definitely annoying they didn't fix the issue after the RCD video complaining about the same thing. this thing looks AMAZING!

@@413RC I trimmed out some of the rear section of the body as the rear tires would rub on it under acceleration (chassis squats). The fronts rub under cornering or braking but it’s not impacting my steering. You could ditch the stock hex hubs and get some 4-5mm ones to get the wheels tucked under a little more.

You have an Aldi!? That looks like a huge one! We had them in Illinois and Missouri. I have an HPI FJ Cruiser. It does decent. A lot of people have been impressed. You look good with the beard, so take it or leave it.

Simon here in Las Vegas NV, Love your videos brother, looks like HPI drop the ball on this one with the issues it has, some simple things they should have taken car of before sending it out, being a huge Mustang fan since the day it came out and owning 20 of them over my 63 years and having 11 Mustangs in my RC collection I would never by this RC because of the body, I hate the fact that Ford put the Mustang name on a 4 door SUV and most Mustang purist feel the same way. Anyway keep the videos coming my friend I do enjoy them!

Awesome video. I have the gt 40 edition. It’s exactly the same. I had to do the same thing you did. I ran mine without adjusting it first. It just grinds constantly. I can’t for the hell of me get it to run straight pmsl. The sterling has loads a play a think it needs shimmed and a better Servo. Am scared to death to put a 3s in it 🙈. Never mind that speed set up. Good luck with this mate. A think a lot of people would like to see you get that ran in a straight line with it all sorted. Please make moor vids on this ✌🏻.

Anyone thinking of buying this platform needs to be confident with maintenance as well. Suspension changes are a most unless you've got clean concrete floors you can run on and on tarmac you can easily chew through tyres on 3s batteries. I'm also on my second spur gear after only 3 months of intermittent running and stones like to jump up and jam the steering servo. I like it now but when I first got it felt like I'd been ripped off and it took some problem solving. Definitely buyer beware.

My thoughts…the front chin spoiler and how the lexan folds up is more than likely contributing to your steering issues. As the car gains speed, the air flow acts like a lift and you have inconsistent traction at the front. I would probably try to flatten that section of the chin spoiler so it stays parallel to the surface. Worst case, cut it off and create a new front spoiler. Later!

I have just ordered the other day and waiting to take delivery either before or after Christmas holidays of the bit better than the SPORT 3 FLUX, the WR8 FLUX WRC RALLY 2001 SUBARU IMPREZA, ( £100 more expensive than SPORT 3 FLUX ), which has the oil filled shocks with more suspension travel, than the SPORT 3 FLUX. It also has a different 4 wheel drive system internal layout than the SPORT 3 FLUX, it is also more expensive than the SPORT 3 FLUX. THE WR8 FLUX has metal shock tower mountings, metal drive shafts, all metal drive gears, metal wheel drive components and bearings. Also got already the KYOSHO FAZER MK2 VE 1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO Z28, Two ZD RACING brushless EX16 01 PRO 1/16 cars, two ABISMA 1/16 brushless touring cars that are exactly like the ZD RACING EX16 brushless PRO models, two UDIRC PRO brushless fiesta rally cars, two CARISMA GT24 RS, and two CARISMA GT24 hyundai i20 cars. My 2022 end of year new collection so far .

I agree it should be set up out of the box, I’m wondering if having become unsecured in the box the body might have warped, it does look great, but imho a 70mph rc car is not really a good starting point, although 35 mph is definitely better, I still think newbies to rc should start with something about 15mph, we both know how much it hurts being hit by an rc doing 30+. Nice video, but I think I’d rather the hpi really 4s…

The into hit hard 😅 My Arrma Vendetta arrived yesterday with no drive out the box, appliance electronics haven’t been much help, asked me to take it apart to have a look and are now saying it will need sent away to be inspected as they think I broke it? Lesson learned, no new toy just an expensive ball of plastic

Have an old Thunder Tiger Sparrowhawk DX and looks very similar under the shell thinking not sure if HPI sorced ready made parts or just took inspiration from or just copied the design but that Thunder Tiger had the self same issues

its the front bumper keeping you from going straight my friend whats happening is the air is picking up the front end making handling squirrely that bend on the lip is easily picking it up in my view thats wayyy too much curve on it. id try to bend it down flat or past to push down on the front

Never been a fan of HPI gear. Unforgivable for it to leave the factory as your did. Nice looking car but think HPI need to step it up now, those old body posts, cheap suspension etc.

I feel the older cars were better. My old savage had little to non issues after some tuning. Same with vaterra glamis. One of my best cars in my memory. And traxxas, neh! Had one, mate had two, to make it short, i sold mine faster than it came in. Mate had to spend tons on repairs and lost his appetit in rc-ing. Bought a while ago some serpents with other friends for some competition (parking lot and beach like racing). Know one thing for sure, a Bandit would never keep up, maybe in a straight line (we did put some serious motors in it btw, so even that is questionable) but never broke a damn thing besides a bearing and a chassis in a hard crash with the curb. I think that's how it should be. Every brand that makes good products needs a fair chance. Think hpi is one of them...

Yes the quality of the older ones seem better. I’m still regularly running an old hpi firestorm, and only had to replace spur, cups, and rear bearings. Everything else is still original, including motor and esc. Drives great too.

The body is going to eat the tires up. I had to trim my Arrma Felony a lot, because when the tires ballon they catch the body amd the tires are "eaten up."

So I've managed to get the ground clearance sorted out but now when driving after a while the steering locks up to the left and after a few minutes it unlocks for 4 to 5 minutes then locks up again could that be the receiver not set up right as I am still using the factory setting on the controller. I haven't turned none of the dials they are all at the same place as I got it straight from the box. Any advise would be great fully appreciated. Thank you.

If you shop at Aldi try their new Honduras carbon neutral coffee. It’s whole bean and I like the light roast. It’s available internationally. I had to stop buying local roasters coffee as it was $16 per bag usd. The Aldi coffee was $5.99 per bag. It was surprisingly good

Adjustable turnbuckles would sure help BUT that's a bandaid on an open wound no? Why not give a hair dryer or heat gun (ON LOW LOL) try distorting that wheel well just a bit to flair out over the tire? That same trick, with a ruler to help it stay flat, would help the front splitter be straight too! Just a thought 🤷‍♂️

The wheels/hexes/bearings? are really bad for binding up when you tighten the wheel nuts.. Like ridiculously so, just the tiniest fraction too tight & they bind. The fronts are the worst. I've had the hubs apart, swapped multiple hexes & pins, I've tried spacer shims in various configurations but so far the only solution that works is a bit of threadlock (I hate using it on axles) & paying careful attention to how much you tighten the nuts... Even a sixteenth of a turn will bind them up.!!! If anyone has a solution I'd be very grateful to hear it.

I hate how they make everything the plastic nonadjustable out the box, no adjustable toe links or camber links. Everything plastic. and that splitter edging up would bug me too, heat gun to the rescue.
