Also, the reason the Mercury Bobcat and Mustang II didn't blow up when rear-ended was likely due to the recall of the model to fix the gas tank problem.
The reason Pintos caught fire after being rearended was due to the fact that they had flint bumpers and the gas tank was so close to the rear of the car. At the time most cars on the road still had metal bumpers. Metal+flint= spark+ hard rear collision rupturing gas tank= Big Boom!. Oddly enough, I've never heard anyone say that Mustang II's and Mercury Bobcats also blew-up during rearend collisions, even though they were all the same basic car.
@mrkawi624 , LOL I had to look up the Pinto on RU-vid also. I knew they would blow on a rear impact but I what I didnt know is that the bumper would push the gas tank into the rear differential thus penetrating the tank, then with any ignition the gas would ignite, accordint to Top Gear
Always the gas tank! What about the breakdowns!? Dependable!? My dad's 1974 Pinto left us stranded on the road at least once and had to have a $2,000 overhaul. It and his 1978(9?) Bobcat were always in need of repair. I like Pintos because of the way they look, but ours was not the greatest mechanically. How about this for a Pinto commercial parody? Use the soundtrack from this commercial, but reshoot the scene. As the narrator speaks, the horse struggles to its feet and attempts to walk toward the car, falling several times on the way. As the narrator gets to the line, "built to run and run and run," the horse leans against the car to rest. As the commercial ends, the horse staggers off-screen, followed by a farmer with a shot gun in sllhouette. Then the disclaimer, "No horses were harmed in the making of this commercial."
the horse hit the back of the car which was a ford pinto, if u rearend the pinto it will explode because the fuel tank was between the bumper and the axle
Genius HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA YOU CANT TELL IT BUT I HATE THIS VIDEO BEYOND THE EXPANSIVES OF THE UNIVERSE. HA HA HA HA HA. BEST COMEDY VID 2016
Better car than the Chevy Vega (rustbucket, noisy, ugly, unreliable)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a 1976 Pinto and when my friends would razz me, I would always say, "At least it's not a Chevette!!!!!!!!!!!"
