Another great video. As an aside, I bought my daughter her first car at the weekend (Fiat 500) which was bought privately. I said to the guy who was selling it that I was gonna do a car vertical check and it turned out we were both Salvage Rebuilds subscribers. 😀 We had a good chat about how we enjoy your videos and my daughter is well chuffed with her new car. Thanks again

Great video, as usual. Can I just say ... Car Vertical ... saved my skin yesterday, I very nearly bought a Cat N Golf GTI until I downloaded the report and saw the true damage from a few years back. Walked away from a proper headache and a right bodge job. The report is well worth the money for the information it brings up

I looked back to a few of the earliest videos you posted before I discovered your site and subscribed and believe me, your videos and editing are 100% better now. Nice that Chris is much more relaxed about being on film. The relationship between you guys adds so much. I think you have really nailed your format and content. Well done both of you.

It’s not irrelevant Rob. You and Chris are building a great channel. The variation in builds are great and details you go into when repairing them. But the Lamborghini was a great purchase I think everyone should have dreams, some of them we achieve some of them we don’t lol. Thanks to you both for such great content

These rangers are known for oil pump failure. People upgrade their oil pumps from Vane to geared avoid engine failure. It’s very common

All ford pickups are built to remove the the engine/trans married together the assembly balances perfectly. assembly line mentality you might consider pulling the transmission now and mating it to the new engine before reinstalling them.

Wondering if the oil pump itself seized up and the sprocket spun off? Just a thought Edit, had a google and there's no bolt, it's a press fit so can't see any other reason it would have come off

Hi guys I feel your pain removing that lump, I do a lot of rangers for a trader. I had exactly the same problem with a 3.2. Turbo failed and dragged all oil through it. Just a heads up it would be worth pressure testing the egr cooler before you build it back up as they are prone to cracking aswell. All the best with the rebuild.

Once everything is stripped from the engine, it looks so small for such a large vehicle. The failure is a strange one. I can't say I've ever seen that happen before. I thought the oil pickup may have clogged or the chain had snapped. Really looking forward to seeing the engine recondition video. Great work.
@andrewmoorey6103
@andrewmoorey6103 2 года назад
Easier to remove the engine and trans together? Remove the slam panel and rads and it comes out forwards. Build it all back up out of the truck and install as a complete unit. That way all you're doing is connecting wires , hoses and pipes rather than installing components.
@patagualianmostly7437
@patagualianmostly7437 2 года назад
Mmm, yes I'm inclined to agree with that, Andrew. Also, layshaft alignment/penetration is easier "wiggling" the box rather than the engine.

I have never seen a pulley work lose like that and I've worked on a few engines in my time. Hard to say which failed first that or the turbo. I would bet on the pulley ( if I was a betting man). I am pleased that you found a new block and it seems they are prepared to put a few bits back on it for you. Back in the day you got a block all nicely painted and the rest was up to you! It will save you some time though so that is good. I will say that block seems to have what looks like some rust on it which is maybe why some bolts were hard to remove, as well as the access issues. Thanks again Rob and Chris for an interesting video. 👍

Had this on my fathers td5 discovery at motorway speeds. Engine was knackered but despite him driving for 2 mins at 65mph the engine kept running and only stopped when he pulled off at a junction! The engine was nearly still too hot to touch 24hrs later believe it or not which shows how hot it got but even then I could still turn it over! I fitted the new engine and 12 years on she’s still going like a dream but I’ve had the sump off and checked that bloody bolt… if only JLR could have remembered the lock thread on all TD5 engines!

Hi Rob & Chris, lots of work for the Ranger but a really lovely straight truck so clearly well worth it. As Chris said I bet it was making one hell of a racket, but sometimes you have to remember that some vehicles never get seen (or heard) by their owners and some operatives will run a vehicle till it drops and then get given another one the same day!

Hello Rob and Chris, I have loved all of your video's over the last year or so, and I have been tempted to make a suggestion many times in the past, and that is, have you considered in getting a LED head torch? They are cheap and so handy in the fact that wherever you want to look, the light is shining in the right place. There are loads to choose from on Amazon, and if you decide to purchase one (or two) make sure it has a rechargeable battery! I wouldn't be without one.
