I’d guess the best train of thought on all these Rangers is change the oil fast 💨 In hindsight the pump is quite a delicate design compared to older style oil pumps. Thanks Trevor 😉👍
There was a re call for the transit oil pumps, better to put a new front cover on it as well mate, don't want it coming back for oil leaks, great video looking forward to episode 2
Hey Peter, I didn’t know about the recall. They must be failing very often so. I have it back together and used the old cover but was fussy on the preparation & sealer. After a week or so driving it is actually bone dry ( thank goodness ) 🤞🤞

Good old Ford Motor Company products Peter , I did a 2019 Transit Custom a couple of weeks ago , straight forward service and Mot test , luckily was exactly 3000kg , so not a commercial class 7 Mot, Mot no problem, passed , took it back to work , did the service, and now it has a slight whine on the turbo 😂😂, told the customer nowt to do with me, oil in straight away, let it idle no revving , these engines must be poor on lubrication, had my own Octavia vrs Estate sump holed last year , managed to get it home rolling as much as possible, took it to work on a rope , bumped it on the way to see if quiet 🙈, 30 quid new sump , new oil and filter , mint , quiet as a mouse and only 186000 miles on it
I had an 06 Astra van in with an engine noise last week. The oil pump pump pulley wore away and stopped turning the oil pump, so oil light was on & timing belt hanging off. Customer done 150 mls like that. I fitted new pump & timing belt kit, then away she goes like new. I think this Ranger got around 30 seconds with oil light on 🤔 Not made like they used to be 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Great videos. Proving invaluable. Mine just had an injector or two fail. Diesel in sump. Got past turbo and ran on. Didnt seize but running lumpy and loads of blow-by. Only thing to do is open her up. Currently getting engine out (its a 3.2 so tight as you know!). Question i have is, if you were going to buy non-Ford pistons and bearings which brands are good OEM? Only want to this job once! Definitely going to change the pump to a gear driven self priming one. Thanks again
I think you’ve made the right call in that engine Peter well worth the gamble. How about that oil pump failing very unlucky I know of a chap at another garage who drained the oil on one of those engines left it draining over night and filled it with fresh oil the next morning only to have no oil pressure ended up fitting a new pump! He said that he spoke to Someone at Ford and they told him that you have a window of 15 minutes to refill the sump with oil and start the engine or risk oil pump failure don’t know how true this is but I’ve done a few oil changes since on those motors and I’ve been quick to get the oil back in the sump!!
Great video sir. I can’t figure out why the injectors would do anything to seize the engine. It would throw a lot of injector related fault codes before that would even close to happening.
The injectors didn’t cause this engine to fail it was the oil pump that failed. The oil pumps are very weak in this type of engine. Injectors can over fuel and damage the pistons, then damage the cylinder. This happens with no faults stored too 😉 Cars are crazy nowadays 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🙏
Hi, Firstly thanks for all your efforts with the great informative videos! I would really appreciate some advice, I am in Thailand and bought a 2014 ranger wildtrack 2.2 120,000km. The ford dealership just links to their laptop and tells me there's no problem. Symptons: - lose of power when starting to accelerate in low gears - twice i have been approaching/going up a steep hill changed down to 2nd had no power and then down to 1st and also had no power and the vehicles stalled - slightly rough idling (only a little) and also a shudder when turning off the engine From everything I have seen online I am thinking I need to clean and blank off the EGR cooler, but I would really really appreciate some professional advice! Thanks so much in advance!
I would agree with you. I would think the egr valve could be sticking open. The electrical side is most likely perfect so no apparent faults but the mechanical valve is sticking, this is a very common problem
I didn’t 😬 I have a part 2 coming & it’s on the road with around 2 weeks now and seemingly flying but there is a slight whistle from the turbo after the oil pump failed 🤞
A lot of guys seem to be saying that the oil pump’s fail very regularly. This might help if you buy one as a project, I pop up part 2 in a few days too. Thanks Chris 🙏🙏
Off hand I don’t know the engine code 😬 It is a Ford engine that the widely used but again I don’t know if they use it in the Mazda. I think it wasn’t used by mazda but could be wrong 🤔🤔🤔
See all the surface rust kicking off, Peter? Fords.... another 12 or 24 months & that'll be proper corrosion if it isn't treated. Good job on the engine btw.

Ford is probably the only manufacturer that has this 10 minutes oil change rule due to their vane pump. It does give an extra few ponies but come on there's gotta be a solution to these priming loss.
It is a very strange problem to have alright, I am quite fast getting a dislike against the Ford brand. I’m finding them very soft lately 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ Happy new year mate 🙏🙏
