I like the way you guys test off-road trucks for the Canadian market. Off-roading in Canada is often muddy with lots of rock, steep slopes, and tight spaces. Videos of Moab are always cool and Baja running looks like a blast, but that isn't the terrain Canadians put their trucks through. Well done.

When you first went through in the ranger, you slow down and basically stopped, before you backed up and took a different line and went through with momentum. When you took the Colorado through you had the benefit of knowing that and you did it right from the start. That's why you had to back up and do it again. Well, I do believe the duratrax are better tires too though. I do favor the ranger, but you can't go wrong with either one of these. Thanks for the video 👍

The only way I'd give up my ZR2 is for the Ranger Raptor. Maybe have a slight biased for my ZR2 but no brand loyalty what so ever. With that front locker I've gotten in and out of things that I had no business attempting by myself. And pricing on sticker is quite expensive but for my 2019 I was out the door at 36.5k with the end of the year sale. Originally wanted the TRD Pro but Toyota is way too proud to come off price and honestly preferred the ride of my ZR2

I drove both and the Ranger (XLT Sport) just felt all around better to me (the ZR2 does look badass though). The weight of the wheel in the Ranger has a bit of heft, which makes me feel more in control of the vehicle. My offroading experience is much different than these guys though, New Mexico High Desert. They're both great trucks. 2 months in, and I have absolutely no complaints about the Ranger - towing through the mountains is a breeze, even when taking the trailer through hilly, unpaved terrain. well the difference in price is a big take away there as well, most duratracs are in the $250 range per tire, vs the $150 range per tire for the Grabbers. @Ryan Belden Mine is a 2018 built in 2017 and had 2 leaky shocks replaced under warranty. I heard they remedied that for 2019 and newer I think. The 4wd actuator and the a/c blend actuator were also replaced under warranty. Everything was done while it was getting an oil change, so I was never inconvenienced nor stranded. I can only speak for myself, but I'm not easy on vehicles and this truck has handled everything I have thrown at it. The most recent test was recovering a stuck nissan titan on the beach. It just clawed and dug and dragged it out. Great truck. Not perfect, but does everything well

The ZR2 isnt the same as the Tremor though. A more compatible trim from the Colorado would be the Z71 off road. It also lacks the front diff locker, and has the same payload as the Tremor. There will be a few rare occasions where I will ever go anywhere resembling "off road" but not many for me. Also, I have read in several places that it is 270hp/310T on 87 octane. But it has a knock sensor, so you can run it on 93 octane, and gain about 20-25HP. I haven't verified this, but many sources report it to be so.

No light duty city boy off-road shenanigans from these guys. Just real deal, real world trail testing. Going on un-manicured dirt roads, and service trails. Wheelin in the thick of it! Great comparison. I like the ranger. It ticks all the boxes for off road goodies. But, I ended up choosing the ZR2 because it offers the same amount of off-road prowlessness, but tops the ranger because of the additional front locker. Having to install an additional locker in the ranger would be costly, and I think that ford dropped the ball on not adding it. You may not always need a front locker, but its there when you do need the additional traction.

If you want an Offroad Toy, The ZR2 hands down. Those Trails don't require 4 low or a locker even in the rear. Not a serious test of either trucks capabilities if 4wd low isn't used. Ranger Tremor should really be compared against a Canyon AT4.

bigger payload? 1,430 for the ford tremor, 1,460 lbs for the chevy zr2. it doesnt have a bigger payload. and towing, 7500 for the ford versus 7000 for the chevy? If youre maxing out either of these trucks at 7k you need to get yourself a larger v8 truck.

I’ve come close the pulling the trigger on a ZR2 a couple time just because of the suspension but the lack of safety tech and no push button start keep me away. If I had to buy one tomorrow it would be the Ranger but I’ve waited this long. I’ll wait and see what the redesign looks like at the end of the year. Hopefully the interior will get a much needed refresh. Either way great vid been looking forward to seeing it.

As far as the Ranger ride goes, my experience is that it softens quite a bit after the break-in (10,000 miles). Also, the valving of Fox shocks seem to stiffen when encountering fast & hard bumps.

I looked like you took a slightly different track in the ZR2. You went more driver and the front wheel was a bit more in the dry. That seemed to have made all the difference. I know it would be a bit longer video but I would like to see you both drive both trucks to compensate a bit for your different driving styles.

Wish they could put the Duratrac’s on Ranger as well. Regardless having a front locker is big sell plus the ability to add a turbo afterwards would make it far superior versus an engine that is already close to its limits. Plus a transmission with too many gears do not work well off road.

I have a 2021 Colorado Bison edition with the steel bumper front and rear with built in rear sliders. Also the built in winch and an awesome comfortable ride. With a Yakima rack and Roof Top Tent, I don't need tow capacity and with front and rear lockers it is suited best for over landing and rock terrain. Almost bought a Ford, but they couldn't get inventory. I'm grateful for that. Bison is wider, tougher looking and IMO proven. Love your videos guys. Entertaining as hell. CC Ontario.

I truly appreciate your actually testing these trucks as they designed/marketed to be used -- off road. The ZR2 might have a better ride and front locker for serious crawling, but the ranger has a better powertrain and looks. They're actually pretty darn close, and if tires were a determining factor for any part of the testing, tires people often change out to a different brand when the OEs have worn out, so why not test them both with the same to see what difference it makes on each? All aside, I do not like the looks of the ZR2, I think the update is a bit of a step backwards -- the forthcoming Colorado changes that! That said, this current generation Ranger is a better looking truck, which I can't say about the forthcoming generation.

At the 4min mark, I think you need to keep those trees on that curve. Yes, you would like to carry more speed in but what you have is far more realistic. Im going out to inspect a tower this morning and I have a sharper curve than that to navigate before going up towards the base. Knowing (guessing really) what any truck will do in that moment is better than seeing it in scripted driving like all the manufacturers put out.

You did let off in the Ranger right before the hill and the first line you took was more center. Had a bit more speed with Zr2 and took a line further left. That being said both got through. The trucks are very similar off road I'd give the edge to Zr2 because of the front locker, other than that I'd go with the Ranger. More torque and more towing. Both seem to be good trucks.
