Just accept it and look for a nice old truck instead. I watch these videos to keep up with the times, but I couldn't even afford a 10 year old truck. I can afford a 15-20 year old truck. It'll drive you nuts to look at the newer ones. Don't go into debt, it'll be a worse decision. It sucks, I know.
I was doing the same and then I realized I should go ahead and get a truck a few years older. I’ve never owned a truck, but I want to do some light off-roading and I won’t be towing much so I’m going with a midsize
Truck King has got to be one of THE BEST truck review channels. These guys tell it like it is and don’t seem like used car salesmen like on so many other channels. Plus, I like to see the father & son having fun together. 👍🏻
What’s cool is you know how much this dude appreciates his truck, most of us can relate to the daydreaming haha! I’m appreciate the hell out of my 2015 ecoboost fx4 I got a couple months ago. Awesome truck man!
I'm from Europe and totally got hooked on truck world here in US, It's nice variety of experience from pushrod engines to Coyotes dohc, even the V6 dohcs from Ford and Pentastar are fun in different way, i like my 2nd Ram and F150 work truck i use drives like Explorer with it's 3.9
Truly my Favorite, a few dudes and a truck, real no BS getting in the thick of it, experiencing the good bad and ugly with guys that really know their stuff…Exactly what normal shoppers want from a truck channel. BRAVO!
I would be interested to hear how the truck is holding up. Is Mike in the comments or is there a way to hear from him? I would like to know if there have been any mechanical issues, recalls, etc?
Amen.ive watched every truck even full size go up agents the zr2 and watched it whip them all when it gets tough the front lockers make a HUGH difference. Only one that can is the rapter..
Chevy!!! Who the f@#k designed those rear shock mounts!?!?? For an off road package those things are flipping ridiculous. I love my ‘21 ZR2 but those gotta go.
This truck is exactly 💯 what I am getting color the tires and I would love to bring my truck but I live in washington state and don't think I can get to go through Canada
Cool video, both the owner experience and the driving. Love these types of videos. Lesson learned, once you start spinning, stop. Get 'er rocking back and forth.
I can't believe that it took Chevy till 2023/23 to include standard features and upgrade the headlights. Also move the rear shocks to the outside. Though the vehicle is still very capable.
Excellent video! Like Mike Ive been You Tube window shopping for months.... ZR2 seems to be the way to go. No Frame issues, no lifter issues, front and rear locking diffs. I'm surprised this truck isnt more popular on the media channels.
Drove a ZR2 & Tacoma … night & day. The Tacoma was anemic & seats are horrid. ZR2 offers better power delivery, more comfort, and is equal or better on interior features; add-in front & rear lockers and the Chevy wins hands-down. Toyota sells well because of old reliability stereotypes. Once people realize that the quality gap has eroded, then Toyota’s goose is cooked.
I own a '18 Z71. My biggest complaint is the storage bin under the rear seat. As a dog owner of an 80lb Shephard I find the truck almost impossible to take my dog in. If you fold the seat down, it's too high for him to jump up on. Flip up the lower seat and there is no space because the storage bin takes it all and the floor is too small. Hate to say it, but the Honda Ridgeline has a FAR more useable passenger/dog space. We have a Wrangler Unlimited Willy's as well, so we use that for the dog. It just blows my mind that so many trucks DON'T have flat cargo/dog areas in the rear. Our next truck WILL have a spacious flat cargo area in the rear. I'm waiting to see what the rear situation is on the 2023 models. That will tell me if I need to move up to a full-size truck next.
I had an 05' Tacoma and the back seats fold down like a table with lots of great storage space. The ZR2 is an amazing truck but the back seat is probably the worst of any truck.
Manual rear windows were fine when we were buying single cab trucks. Seems GM’s window engineers were asleep at the wheel or they all have really long right arms!
I think I'll stick with my '05 five cylinder 4X4 Z71 Colorado "beater" for that sort of thing. I DID enjoy this video though. Maybe in 2028 or so I'll look at purchasing a high mileage ZR2 for my next "beater".
I am a muscles car guy never even thought about a truck or suv I at one point said I would not buy one but my first SUV was a 87 Mountaineer 5.0 AWD it was great in the snow, than a Envoy again great in the snow never wanted a pickup but I really think that if I am in the market to replace my TBSS this would be different and lots of fun thanks for sharing your experience I've seen one or two of these and this they look great and now I know just how awesome they are very nice truck and that Orange colors great!!!!
I absolutely love my ZR2 I've had mine for 3 years now and only way I'd get ride of it is for another ZR2.i love just like the first day I bought it new.
I too lucked into a slightly used 2019 zr2 that the previous owner had just put 33in km3's on. Spot on reveiw. I love these trucks, smiple and capable. Just get some fluid film on that chassis rust before it spreds.
I just bought a 2021 ZR2. I had a Colorado WT, but almost got bogged down in northern Michigan with my wife who'd recently had open heart surgery. I decided right then and there I needed an upgrade. Planning to hit that same trail this fall (without my wife) and expecting the ZR2 to cruise right through the worst of it.
I just got a 2017 zr2 in the deep woods green and I love it. I had no idea how many off-road options it has and with a smaller truck the 308hp V6 has plenty of power and it drives down the road like a car on blacktop. love it
Truck life...indeed! My Tundra at 300,000+km just killed the alternator. Who knew a brand new one was 9 bills plus install. I went the rebuilt road and struggled for hours on my back in the driveway lmao. That still was $470 plus $70 for the core. Welcome to living in the sticks. (Haliburton county)
Such a great series! I love how the guys get to hit your trails, wish I lived near by to bring my Tacoma by! Would be quite the trip from nor cal though.
Only cargo I carry is my wheelchair so my truck is a 2013 Nissan Armada. I absolutely ADORE that vehicle. The fully selectable 4x4 and car like driving of the vehicle is absolutely amazing! I live in Florida so the drives on the beach are effortless and I even take her into the woods for mudding from time to time. It has 148,000 miles now and still runs and sounds like new. If you keep your fluids changed you will never have a problem. I hope this is helpful to anyone wanting to buy one but was hesitant. Make sure to save up your gas money tho🤷
What was the tire pressure if you don't mind? It looks like on highway pressures just basing on the video. Great video by the way! We would have loved to buy a ZR2! Sadly, it's just not available in our country.
Great Video! Me and my Friends got me recently into the truck scene too this past July. (We went at the Trails up in Northern Ontario by Mattawa). I kind of relate to the owner and i'm glad that the ZR2 got out from that Pit haha. I'm planning to purchase a 2022 ZR2 Hopefully by next year. Which part of trails is this in Ontario btw?
I wish you Canadians would speak English, LOL. I want to use the ZR2 as a highway driver and an off road farm truck. My 2WD Silverado is sketchy off road. The Colorado Z71 with the Trail Boss package is great too. Greetings from Mayberry, NC.
I have a Colorado Redline 2021 and I really like it. With the trailering package it comes with automatic locking rear diff. I really like the ZR2 but for me I just need to get through the snow it is unlikely I will ever be off road. I think the Colorado is one of the better mid sized trucks out there and it is body on frame (like Tacos) but I think it is better execution of BOF than Taco and Ridgeline is unibody so it is not really a truck more of a cross over. As far as interior is concerned its a Chevy - really that is like their trademark cheap plastic interior but the power train is really hard to beat. Nice truck and good job getting out of the mud...
It's pretty funny how all 3 have sometimes exactly same issues, My Ram 3th break light water leak, also water drain in passenger front door plugged not draining and i've seen F150 owner on YT had same in driver door ... how the heck they manage to have same failures on completely different vehicles
That age old question....is Toyota crawl control better or having front/rear lockers?? I love Toyota but dual lockers are hard to beat....so why not have both....crawl and lockers. Good for Mike getting g a good deal on a truck he wanted. I had a Tacoma but for towing and comfort, the Tundra is way better.
Crawl control is better than front locker from my 23years of off roading experience , it works up hill , down hill and in reverse can’t beat that. Unless you are only doing rock crawling up steep hills that’s the only time front locker may be better .
I love my ZR2 but that plug-in pedal sucks when your stuck in the mud. Makes it tough to get that quick throttle response when rocking it back and forth.
Love the truck, love that color but hate hearing GM still can't get minor things sorted out. When I had 1st gen Colorado that third brake light leaked twice under warranty.
one of your most entertaining videos. it was blast watching you guys getting stuck and then making It out. both of you guys so comfortable on video. well done
If the owners watching, I love the color, and the door storage is useless as he said, also take care of the shocks, you’re gonna need a bank loan to replace them. Very nice truck!
He got it dirty. Just like Mike I have gone through a ton of videos and I seem to be settling on a Colorado. I’m not ready to pull the trigger but soon. Struggling between Z71 and ZR2.I have a Boat and currently I pull up with the town and country. However I would like something that has more towing capacity for a potential small camper in the future. I know the CR two has reduced towing capability but still more than the town and country. Great video.
Just traded in my 2018 ZR2 babymax (38k miles) for a 2021 Ecodiesel Gladiator (3k miles). Would love to give you guys a comparison on the two after a few more miles!
Love this review. Colorado is something on my next truck list. I do have pause with the valve train in the 3.6l. I have the Ford 5.4 3v right now that so far been good. But these engines do make me worry about timing chains .
OMG, first, why do you have the seat set where you can't even see over the steering wheel, got it set at the gangsta setting. 2nd, if you want the rear window open before you leave for work, then open it.! No power recline on passenger side, ? How often does your wife play with the setting, once she finds a comfortable position. I have power driver side, and once it's set for me, it never moves. Unless my wife drives it, which is rare.
"Didn't get enough snow this winter." First winter for us in southern Oklahoma that I remember having snow for almost a full week on the roads and such cold weather for so long. Will say nice truck, trying to decide between the or a tacoma.
