In 1990 I moved from Dublin to Essex to work as a graduate engineer for Ford Motor Company HQ in Warley. Aged 21, I did have a brand new one of these parked outside my house ! To say it was stunning to drive back then was an understatement to say the least. Among the best days of my life. Great vid by the way, brought back great memories for me :)
In 1989 l was 18/19 and l had a job for 6 months driving an owner of a window business around who had lost his licence for speeding , and he was heavily into racing and track days , he had a Sapphire Cosworth and in the 6 months l worked for him we went to all the major racing circuits and he let me drive on track about 10 laps at each circuit and it was awesome at 18/19 y/o on famous circuits in a Cosworth something in could never insure let alone buy . It was the best 6 months of my life , so thanks Chris Lord for letting me throw-ish your car around racing tracks , my favourite was Brands Hatch GP Circuit 👌
My dad had a white RS500 in 86 ‘then lost his license same year for DD 😮. He sold it to get my mum Capri GL ‘78 model in Venetian red . Fk I miss the Sierra to this day 😔
Nice video! But I do have to put on my biggest anorak and point out that the 2wd sapphire came with orange indicators... it was the 4x4 that came with clear indicators... and now, anorak off..
Not completely correct as the rare facelift 2wd came with clears, smoked rears and plinth along with square speaker trims and a revised dash binicle a 90 spec car.
Fantastic video brother. My biggest car regret was in 2003 not buying a 2 owner Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth. It was a 1988 E reg in Clearwater blue, super low mileage & totally standard. It was up for sale at £4200. I thought about it a day too long & then I decided I’d have it & the guy had sold it. Moral of the story is when the right one turns up don’t hesitated just pull the trigger.
Must have been so special having the pockets to buy one brand new, I still remember falling in love with 2 cars purely from seeing both of them standing brand new in showrooms, first car was the 2.8i Brooklands Capri, second was the Sierra Cosworth, had a few fords in my time Escort MK2 - Capri and my best was a 1989 XR3i but never had the wallet for a Cosworth or the Brooklands.
Great content these cars bring back a lot of memories as I was lucky enough have been in 4 different cosworths and one in particular my friend owned and I bet he's kicking himself now seeing what these super cars are fetching as I do believe he sold his for about £6000 there abouts
great video on your cosworth drive , i owned a 4 door version, for 1 year , was stolen , recovered, seats were torn , it was a owners nightmare , door locks drilled , 5 more thief attemts my brother had a bmw m 5, at the time to be honest the bmw was faster , so i sold the cossie , would i buy another one , defo NOT , way overpriced , sadly ive left the cosworth fan club
My mum had one of these in the late eighties/early nineties when I was growing up (I know, my mum... I'm guessing they don't have PAS because she used to have to take quite a lot of breaks, bless her...) -- it was the older shape, G reg I think -- and I used to get fucking bullied for it! Not in the good way either! Apparently Cossies are shit compared to an E34 5 series company car. Kids eh? Thanks for making 7 year old me feel better about myself. I'd love to know how the hell you managed to be on your third RS by 20 years old. I was still paying >£1k a year insurance on a piddly 1.4 Corsa shedmobile at that age. Is insurance cheaper over there in Ireland?
