Thank you for posting this, this was very helpful since I'll be doing the same thing to my 01 F350 super Duty, except mine is in a lot worse of shape. This is one of the only videos I could find for a regular cab rather than all of the crew cabs.

good job but to be definitively efficient, you should put grease everywhere. grease et the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and poor old oil everywhere each year.Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france

I definitely get what you’re saying, it’s tough when there are so many projects, with such little time!
@dette-envers-les-animaux
@dette-envers-les-animaux 6 месяцев назад
@@ScienceMonkey00 of course but that has to be seen as an investment of time. grease is a long time protection. If it had been done at the beginning of the car, much less job now.
@DaveyBlue32

Definitely…a tube of a Molybdenum axle grease is just absolute protection!!! My Grandpa usta save all the used oil on the farm in a metal drum… and that was one of my projects middle of August when it was good and hot outside., I’d clean them down a little bit… then he’d mash a 1/2 a five gallon pale of grease and used oil together and I’d crawl around and paint everything twice… You could always just Lucia couple of old Sonia valve cover it’ll kind of cold is it

Nice job. I'm hoping to not have to do this to my '01. When you open it up, look at all of those hole you could spray oil into. Unfortunately my truck was 8 years old when I bought it and I live in the rust belt...only had to replace the entire bed so far 😅

@@ScienceMonkey00 I just undercoated my car and truck last weekend with fluid film. The gun has a flexible wand you can snake into those holes and treat the inner parts as well. Bottoms of my doors aren't in the greatest shape....I squirt oil or ATF inside those whenever I'm tinkering in the garage.
@mmiller1188
@mmiller1188 Год назад
My 2001 is in the same shape. Stepped on the step and off it came. Inner and outer are gone. Just about the same amount of metal left too. Still enough body structure left. I'll be trying this once I get the bed off and replace it with a flatbed ... because there's nothing left of the bed .

If you hit the bottom third all the way around the truck with rhino liner it would cover all the weld points and help to protect against more rust. Wouldn't look bad under a wrap either.

It takes way too long to make a panel like that perfect. They weren’t always even perfect from the factory. I would be satisfied with what you did. Your average body guy like me would’ve welded it, grinded the seam a bit, beat in the weld bead, and put bondo over it to make a perfect appearance. Lap welds are perfectly fine if the water runs down the back and they are tight together.
@ScienceMonkey00

Totally agree, and for a work/beach truck no need to put that kind of work in. Thanks for watching!

@@ScienceMonkey00on top of that double layering the steel makes it twice as strong, it is good to use some sort of seam sealer but it probably will outlast the truck
