In this episode, I take my rocker rust out, and cover it with grease and undercoating, replacing it with a quick cover that will never rust. This solution is perfect for what I need it for, for nonstructural rust.

5 years? maybe if it was fiberglass, but its plastic with zero seam sealer. just saying if he lives or visits wear its hot itll get brittle over time and itll start to rust when water gets trapped in the seams, and not to mention if he lives were they salt roads hes got a year or 2 tops and im leaning towards the year mark. Its a band-aid for a broken arm its just not gonna do much

Maverick now that we're in the data winner with a foot of snow on the ground I'm probably about 400 miles south of you I got an F-150 couple years older than yours. I had no idea they had those plastic covers I was going to do all mine and steal in the spring got the exact same problem. so thank you

Looks great man! For the age of the truck, that’s honestly the best you can do. It’s not practical to pay $6000 for a 2011. Once your RU-vid channel really takes off you’ll be able to afford something newer and better! Keep on truckin man! Love your channel! 🤙🏼

I have the same truck as you and I had the same issue. I managed to find a friend who welds and he put in 22 gauge sheet metal an used bondo To cover and and paint it. Managed to get it all done for 350CAD including materials.

Shoulda threw a bead of silicone around the outer portion before taping it up but maybe you can still throw some in the cracks before more water gets in

Nice video. Try to not start/stop your spray of paint on your item. Start the spray off and and end the spray off, that way you don't get the harsh vertical lines.

You don't need to constantly shake the can, its loosing paint because you tip it sideways or upside down and the straw is in the bottom.

If Minnesota doesn't salt the roads and all that rust is just from water, I'd be raging. That truck must have been $50,000 new, and in the greater scheme, a 2011 isn't that old. I live in the snow country in the Cascade Mountains of southern Oregon, and..... no salt. My truck is a 1997 and not a molecule of rust.

Not to hate or anything but that repair won't last long. It's very a temporary repair at best. You should ask the shop and see if you could get discount by doing the preparation yourself.

I would suggest taking some white silicone and sealing the couple cracks on each side sothat water can't get all inside where you just cut out the rust. Looks like a good idea for rocker repair though

I do rust repair (via the best method) however that will give a little more time, its still going to help entrap moisture against the already compromised inner rocker. This might hurt you in the long run bc you wont see rust again until its way too late.

True, but don't you think between the rust (as best he could) removal, and inhibitor (though I would have gone with a converter, paint, then inhibitor), and keeping it clean, he's not going to get a few years off of it? It's clearly not a truck he's going to have for 10 years.

I work in the metal industry and they have something called “ fizz “ it’s a rust remover and primer. It will stop it from rusting

Naval Jelly is what i've seen it called. I usually just slather it with Marine grease if it can't be painted heavily with the fizz stuff.

A few cans of fluid film and the spray extension hose will seriously help slowdown vehicle rot, get every part the hose will reach into and do it while it's still warm outside so the stuff soaks into all the sheet metal seams. 50 or 60 bucks will buy you a few extra years before its rotted to bad if you do it right.

“Vehcor” does a lot of body repair on his channel and sprays a body wax into cavities to help prevent rust.. you might want to look into it as a preventative against future rust

@@braydenconrad650 yeah it almost never rains or snows which is the primary cause of rust, the northeast(where I live) has a high probability of rusting up the undercarriage and wheel wells of every car from a civic to ram unless you garage park or cover your car

I bought my f150 from grand forks nd was an 03 so it was like 15 years old when I got it but had little to no rust due to I guess since noDak doesn't salt their roadways in winter like we do in mighty Minnesota and after only a couple Minnesota winters it got rusty as all heck lol but yea nice mechanical vid mav your the real deal broski

Now eventually a fellow RU-vidr that does welding/body repair will get a hold of you and you can do a co-op video and cut that rocker and cab corner out and weld it in properly. But for the time being that's a nice temp repair, though I would recommend some seam sealer to keep the crud out.

It actually is from water that is leaking in from the high mount brake light. If you look on your headliner you will see water spots around where the high mount brake light is. Pull it out and reseal it with some silicone. It is a common problem from 2004 up to 2014. I resealed it on both my trucks and have never had a problem since. My neighbour has the exact same truck as me and is is rusting out and mine is like new still.

Even before 2009 the f150s have this problem. Not sure what causes it but I've seen so many including my 2005 that don't have sunroofs and have both sides rusted out.

I have the same truck (black), same year, and same motor without a sunroof and yes it's rusted in the same place. I like the fix, I have 260,000 miles on mine, and outside of the cosmetics of those rust bubbles, it is great. This is the cosmetic fix and confidence I need to do the same thing to mine.

For a used truck to keep for a couple of years, this looks like a pretty decent cover up. I mean, cleaning out rust versus cutting it out is almost impossible. I would have put in a rust convertor paint in those voids, but otherwise, this is a decent little job considering the alternative.

I would of painted all the metal you grinded back first and then spray foamed everything inside there leaving the drain hose exposed and possibly drilled a hole at the bottom of the plastic extending the hose just through it so water doesn't bottle up inside, also you should use some white Sika flex and fill in the gaps ontop of the plastic capping your just allowing dust dirt and mud to build up inside there my dude

The vhb tape should keep it sealed, but I second the idea of adding sikaflex to all of the seams, just in case.
