I used a ball valve from hardware store because I was working out in the middle of nowhere and the only thing around was a hardware store I cut into the water pump hose and installed a ball valve with 2 barbed female male brass fittings along with hose clamps. It's been on there 3 yrs. With no problems, when winter gets here I just raise the hood and turn valve back on,I also leave it barely flowing just to keep coolant flowing through heater core. My AC is so cold in my 04 6.0 PowerStroke that I can't leave it on full blast on a 100°degree day or it will cause a brain and face freeze!!
Great tutorial. I think I’ve been subscribed for quite a long time. This problem has been bugging me for a few years. This along with the clutch air gap fix. Straight forward descriptions. Thanks ! 2002 7.3.
@@TruckStuff1 First off THANK YOU... How has this held up? Is there anything you would have done differently... Apparently 4th Gen Ford E350 vans have the same AC/Heater Core Issue.. This tutorial was accurately explained... The F style vacuum connector was genius...
The issues you are having wont make a difference. If you have a diesel you will need a new vacuum pump and if you have a gaser you have a vacuum leak somewhere or your vacuum actuator is messed up
There is an empty rubber stopper through the bulkhead right next to the under dash vacuum tube that was way easier to get through than next to the heater hoses and don't have to reach up behind the dash. It is behind the passenger wheel well plastic though. Other than that everything else is the same.
Thats great mod, when ever u can remove any extra heat from under dash 10 to 22 degrees makes a big difference, a more simple solution is a u pipe does samething ,wont needed till winter
My white line will not seal properly on my T fitting which is the same brand as yours but white and looks different. I need that exact black f fitting, where did you buy it?
Trey how much cooling difference before and after? This will work on most auto's as the coolant is running through the heater core which is inside the car behind the glove box , So great Idea Trey to stop the passive heat transfer.
Hi Terry, how is this mod holding up? Any issue with the yg-350 valve not shutting off all the way, or issue with vacuum line melting bc of the close proximity to heater hose? Thanks! Ryan
Trey, I'd be interested in doing this mod, if it makes that much difference. But wouldn't the temperature control, turning all the way to the coolest setting, already do this? Thanks!
Hi Trey...I'd like to do the mod back can't see some of the tubing and connector dimensions. Can you post them in the notes? Some of the Vacu-tite p/n's are not current. Thanks.
most ppl won't need to install the vacuum hose, it will be a small grey hose plugged into the hvac box inside the engine compartment, right next to the accumulator.
@@everteran783 the grey hose goes to a heater hose bypass valve if you don't have one it gets plugged into the box on the side of the evaporator housing, its only a plug, you just pull it off and put it on the bypass if you are adding one.
@@jmr5x I don't know, they've been using them forever but idk if the color of hose was the same for all. Also depends on options, if its automatic hvac there may not be any vacuum lines going to the hvac box at all
Every now and then my ac will cut out and pure heat will come out and its intermitant Any ideals as to why, Im going to do this mod as soon as i can on my 06 6.0 f350 dually
Does it matter if you put the hose from the water pump on the right or left inlet? Reason I ask is when I switch from max the valve doesn't revert to flow into heater core. I have verified with vacuum gauge that vacuum goes from 14 to 0 when switch is not on max.
yea that helps, now i am going to add a larger 134 condensor that has smaller slower flow tubes to cool the freon longer new compressor and use R12 freon with mirror tint should help out livin in Hellabama heat wave humid hell Oh in a simple 1980 datsun
Does anyone know what the torque specs are for the bolt on the anti way bar bushing and end link to swaybar.. End link to body frame. I have a 2003 f350 7.3l
Jeez...did you ever find that spec? Are you replacing the bolt because the bracket (welded) ripped loose from the axle? Thanks ford for all the weak points on my excursion.
so, I guess I have the factory bypass, but it doesn't look like the one you installed. only has one tube with valve in middle. do I need something else?
Trey, thank you for this video. I did the mod and measured about a 10°F difference with no a/c (system was down for maintenance). Posted the results on this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KQ57nIQ05ug.html
Trey, is it possible to pin the arm on the valve shut (with wire or something) so u don't have to hook up the vacuum line at all? Then it would be super cold on both ac settings. I'm about to buy one.
I am gathering all of the parts to do this mod on my '99 F-250. Did you have to burp the coolant system since you introduced air when you cut the lines?
cloudisunset - it's the same vacuum signal that closes the fresh-air door to recirculate air in the cab. Whenever you put the selector knob to Max A/C it closes the fresh-air door and actuates the bypass valve at the same time.
George McGavern ahh, I want to have that thing shut most of the time. Maybe I can add a switch. Don't like the exhaust smell making it back into the cab.
I ride around in Max A/C most of the time. In that mode, the heater core is bypassed. Occasionally when I'm not in traffic I switch over to norm just to make sure fresh fluid is flushed through the core. I don't know if it's that critical, I just feel like it's a good thing to do. Later trucks have this mod standard.
George McGavern+ I have a 2004 f350 that when the Max A/C is on it will stop blowing out of the vents and start blowing out from the defrost vent. Is this normal because it seems cooler when I run it on just A/C.
No. Sounds like you have an issue in your vacuum system. Could possibly be the line controlling the outside air door is off or broken causing the system vacuum to reduce, or it has been mis-plumbed. Vacuum controls the dampers that direct air to the vents, defrost, floor, etc. and it also controls the dampers that direct air from outside or recirculate it, and how much air passes over the heater core.
@@TruckStuff1 What is the problem with leaving it on maxac? I usually run on MAXAC all the time so I do not smell the exhaust of the cars around me on the freeway.
Keeps the heat from the core from warming the air before it blows over the a/c evaporator. pretty much anytime the climate controls are "on" (heat or air), this valve is open, allowing water to flow. this is why if you select hot air on the blend even with the a/c on, you get full 150' air coming out cause there is water going thru. I think the tee he put in would seem to only apply vaccum to the valve and open when the heater only is on (floor or defrost). But the overall (and valid) theory is to keep all the extra heat out of the heater & a/c box. I did this in my Dodge van several years ago and my a/c got at least 15 degrees cooler, except instead of a stock valve I used two brass plumbing ball valves and capped the vaccum hose. I just open the hood and turn them on when it gets cold out.
+Trey Spooner Hey Mr. Spooner, thanks for the video! I have an '02 F-250 7.3 Diesel. If I put this on like you have shown; will the A/C be on max cool all the time? Will I need to undo this in winter to heat to work? Thanks again!
+Trey Spooner Ok, thank you so very much Mr. Spooner! I will be buying parts tomorrow and doing some work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in such an easy to understand way and method!!!
I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT ALL FORD TRUCKS SINCE 1998 CAME NEW WITH A VALVE THAT - WHEN SUPPLIED WITH FULL VACUUM - CUT OFF THE WATER FLOW TO THE HEATER CORE.
@@TruckStuff1 You might be right but my Ford Service Manuals on DVD for '98, '99, '02 through '06 show all V8 F250s and V10 F350s and F450s do. But what do they know...
@@TruckStuff1 Where'd you learn to reason backwards from "things a lot of people do" ? Want me to start naming popular mods going back to the 50's that were absolutely worthless ? Newest trucks I got manuals for is 2012, 2013. You might be partially right, yet, though - I may have spoke too soon about "ALL".
I'm just saying I don't believe it is a factory option because it's such a popular mod. If it was standard from the factory most people wouldn't need to do the modification.
Lol only people who really like their vehicles go the extra mile and clean the engine and the bay as well, just pressure washed mine before changing a fuel line
I would beware of this fix. It helps now, but if that plastic brakes, which it will do with time and age, will cause a loss of coolant. A loss of coolant will cause a blown head gasket.
The OEM part was plastic. Mines original from 2003 and it hasn't blown up yet. Better ditch your radiator too cause the tanks are plastic. Also your fuel tank is plastic. OH NO
Gabriel Fonseca if your car blew up from just looping the heater hoses together then your an idiot and you did something wrong been doing this for years on many different rides and it's impossible for this to cause an engine failure
