This video shows the results from installing a valve to bypass the heater core when the A/C selector knob is turned to Max A/C. I installed the valve in my 1995 F-350, 7.3L Ford Truck. Trey Spooner has an excellent video showing the fairly simple installation process.
For my mod, I bought the Motorcraft YG-350 Heater Valve from Amazon for $18.79. I bought the 3/32" vacuum tubing, universal vacuum tee, and hose clamps from O'Reilly Auto for about $10. The installation took just a few minutes, but the results were quite impressive. I was able to notice the difference right away, so I thought I'd take some measurements.
I had the freon from my a/c system removed for maintenance when I took these measurements. I have since repaired the system and the a/c blows cold. I measured 43°F discharge temp at the vents. Don't know if that's colder than before, but it sure feels it. Seems like this mod, as easy and inexpensive as it is to do, is well worth it.

It's literally the fastest mod to do. 😂

Cut both lines, plug them into each end, tighten the clamps. 5 minutes is excessive.

I’m a big fan of mods like this that correct design flaws/oversights by the factory engineers. I’d be willing to bet that the AC compressor cycles less frequently with this mod, and fuel efficiency/mileage increases slightly as a result. My only concern: does the condenser ever freeze up?

Gregory Kusiak I haven’t experienced that at all. The whole system is running great.

The hoses that feed the valve how do they connect. Which is water pump and which goes to engine block or intake???

You said go get some 3/32 vacuuming tube and the stock tube is 3/32 and will not slide over the stock tube. You need 5/32 and will slide over tight!

On my 2001 F-350 7.3 I just put a ball valve in the heater hose from the water pump to keep the antifreeze from circulating. I just open the valve when it starts to get cooler out. I guess to totally isolate it I would need a valve in both lines. I just used what I had on hand. Maybe one of these days I'll do it with the vacuum valve . Thanks for the information. 👍

Are you talking about one of the two hoses that he cut in the video? I thought I did something similar in my Jeep....while driving, it got real hot! I assumed it meant that it needed circulation either thru the core as original, or thru the the bypass valve like in the video. You mentioned a ball valve...doesn't that stop all circulation? Is there circulation somewhere else? Wouldn't your way have the water pump pumping against a closed valve?

If your way works, I'd prefer it that way because with this bypass valve, the only way to bypass is to run Max AC. What if I just want nice cool outside air thru the vents? Your way would work better in that sense. No reason to run the AC if the weather outside is nice, but without the AC on max, the bypass valve won't work. You'd need another switch to manually control the valve with vacuum so you can bypass the heater core WithOut running the AC

@@stephenmoore3117 My way works very good. I was just in upper Michigan and it dropped down in the lower 50's at night. I need to run my heat to clear my windshield so I opened the ball valve. Several days later it warmed up to 80 degrees and I could feel the heat radiating from under the dash. Then I remembered that the valve was opened, needless to say I stopped and closed the valve. After awhile the heat subsided. I know you made a comment about the water pump working against a closed valve. This makes no difference, a lot of old tractors and other vehicles don't even have heaters. Just bypassing the heater core won't hurt anything.

is it safe..? i do not need heater in my area so can i permanently bypass my heater core its leaking coolant inside cabin...?
@FrGeorge
@FrGeorge 7 лет назад
It's safe in the sense that the all it is doing is bypassing the heater core while the AC control is set to MAX. This keeps hot fluid from coming into the cab and gives a little boost to the AC. I put my control on NORM from time to time just to make sure fresh fluid gets flushed through the heater core. In the winter time I use the NORM setting all the time - it's the only way to get heat into the cab. If you are going to bypass your heater core permanently because it is leaking, you could just pull the hoses off at the firewall and join them together with a nipple and some hose clamps. You only need the valve if you're going to use your heater when it's cold outside.

Unplug your heater core and loop the hose around so it won't be no hot air into your cab
@FrGeorge
@FrGeorge 3 года назад
Yeah, but then the heater won't work when I need it. Here in Texas winters I need the heater in the morning and full-blown AC in the afternoon.

You could have just put a in line heater hose valve to when you need heat you just turn on the valve for the heat
@FrGeorge
@FrGeorge 2 года назад
Yeah, but this way it gets controlled from inside the cab. Handy for those transition months.
