Everything was smooth, except when I was tiding up T-50 bolts 2 of them snapped without even getting to 40 lbs, the rest I was able to get up to 35 ,was afraid them snapping as well. What would be the reason they snapped? Now I have to drill them out ,but what's the point if they not able to get to required torque ,guess have to get new strat or how that thing calls ? Thanks man

NEVER do what this guy did when removing the RF lower caliper bolt. He holds the slide with his bare hand then uses a power tool to get the bolt out. Why? Because when I was 21 years old I did that and my finger rolled with the fastener and got stuck in a tight spot. I almost passed out from the pain. I hit reverse on my power tool and got my finger out. Couldn’t work for a week. I’m 56 y.o. now and still turning a wrench. But I’ve learned to be careful. Don’t take shortcuts! Yes, def change out the hardware. They don’t come with rotors or wheel hubs, so I didn’t really think about new hardware. That was a mistake! The hub bolts started backing out, destroyed the hex heads and rotor. Now I’m replacing a hub and rotor for the second time this week. It’s a real pain getting the wheel bearing bolts out when the heads are shreded.

Appreciate you concise videos. They are the best ones that I have found for the Transits. Question...When pushing caliper pistons back in, is there any concerns of potential damage to master cylinder? I've heard to open up the master cylinder brake reservoir cap to prevent excess pressure. What's your take on that?
@medtec6747
@medtec6747 3 года назад
As long as no fluid has been added to the system there is no way to over pressurize the master cylinder. If it's not your vehicle take a peek at the master cylinder before you push the calipers back and if it's full (like to the max fill level) then suck some fluid out before pushing them back and leave the cap off while you do. But like I said as long as you haven't added fluid to the system there will be no issue. The little rubber diaphragm in the master cylinder cap that follows the brake fluid down as the calipers push out will simply just get pushed back into its retracted position.

Started getting the soft grind sound from the back right. Is this just the early warning feeler like I has on a dodge caravan? Not sure if my ford transit 250 cargo 2018 has that feeler. I'm hoping to just do the pads around $50 per axle first. I like the idea of replacing bolts as you show for the pad braket and caliper bolts. If you have a good source for pads and bolts specs/ link that would be great. BTY just called local Jiffy Lube and they were quoting $300/$200 for brake change for work with new rotor/ pads only respectively. Thanks

Yes its not a hard sound so much but it's a rhythmic oscillation that speeds up and slows down with the vehicle speed and when you make a turn it will speed up or slow down depending what side it's coming from

Do you think a Transit with 250,000 MI should get new brake hoses? I recently wore out one single brake pad on one side sending me to the dealer for a brake job. The text said the caliper seem to be working okay in the sliders were doing their thing, and he also re-greased them. I know when brake hoses get old they can make it hard for the fluid to return back to the master cylinder allowing the caliper to stay compressed longer. What are your thoughts and is there any big impediment to a brake hose replacement on these transits?

where is the speed sensor located on the 6sp RWD transmission on Ford Transit LWB 2012 T155 2.2L? Van goes into limp mode at 40mph with TCS dash light flashing. Diagnosed as wiring/faulty VSS, because (when goes into limp mode) all 4 wheel speed sensors report speed but VSS reports no data (0 mph).
@medtec6747
@medtec6747 2 года назад
The vss is also the OSS and lives inside the transmission and is a part of thr molded leaf frame assembly. It's a common problem because metal shavings end up building up on the sensor and causing a faulty reading. We've had some try ro shift into 4th while going 80 mph because of it.

Vary good mechanic work, and videoing. My question is when you retracted the caliper with the c-clamp. I was told to open the bleeder for two reasons. One is to re move the contaminated fluid from the hot caliper. And second is sending the fluid back may trip your anti-lock warning light on. Any thoughts on this?
@medtec6747

On the older systems you could activate the containment switch if you push back too quickly but the brake system is a contained and sealed system. Had kind of a metallic clunking going over rough road, with 2017 T150, looked behind the front right wheel and, whoa, 1 caliper bolt half backed out (threads beat up too!) & one missing.. these are the bolts you remove to slide the caliper off of the pads. Went in to dealer, they listed what they thought was that bolt, at about $25.. they said none in stock, no history of ever ordering.. probably some system glitch. But I went to O'reilly, in their Dorman parts rack there was a 4-pack of grade 10.9 hex flange M10 x 1.25 x 30mm, about $5 - almost the same, the original was about 31mm long - could have got the 35mm ones & cut down - if it was spec'ed as 31 long the stackup must have been tight, like to standardize around 5mm increments. But I did use loctite on them!

What is the difference between "regular" and "one time use" fasteners. What makes them different? Seems like a stupid idea to me? If you have to replace them anyway, why not use Grade 8 or better bolts, to replace them? Seems like they just want you to spend more money by making it as hard as possible to work on your own vehicle.(they being auto manufacturers) Didn't see any PPE. Sorry, was safety coordinator at previous job. Good presentation. God bless, stay well.
@medtec6747
@medtec6747 3 года назад
I think its partly because they don't want rusty bolts being reused and partly because they want to make more money in the parts department. Like I said if they aren't TTY then I don't think it's a danger to wire brush them off and put some fresh loctite on them but I would only do that for my vehicle. The manufacturer really puts the liability ball in your court by telling you they are one time use. And you are right I really should be wearing safety glasses more its a bad habit to break.

Good video but man what a scam on the hardware. I get it though if you're working on other peoples stuff. Especially severe duty like an ambulance. Torque to yield bolts strech like some head bolts.

It has the same result either way but it sure is less effort to push down with your body weight!

Try doing that in England and it'll take you two hours to get the bearings off.

GLOVES. That aerosol is a neurotoxin. www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5045a3.htm

I used to have a collection of various mechanic hand soaps and now they go unused because I found a good brand of mechanic's gloves. Just easier at wash up time! I use bath soap. I also "wash my hands" with bath soap while wearing gloves and clean up the gloves and let them dry out, too. And yes, of course, chemical nasties. Why absorb them?
