Something else to consider is gripping the disc tight enough to keep it secure, but not so tight that you lose wrist mobility. If you are too tense, it does not allow your wrist snap forward naturally during your throw. Once you start trying force the snap in your wrist intentionally on longer throws instead of letting it happen naturally, it causes timing issues, which also can cause wobble. You need the lag in your wrist to act like the end of a whip, helping you gain more spin and distance. Shorter shots that require less arm speed will need more forced wrist snap to increase spin.

Agreed, I tend to keep a loose neutral wrist for long throws and focus on pushing the fingers at the hit. Keeping it cocked feels like everything tesnses up but if I keep it loose the arm action cocks it naturally.

I just love the physics behind disc golf! I’m kinda a math nerd, so it’s interesting to me how changing one thing in your throw changes the distance or speed you throw

Ugh if I had a pound for every time wind has taken my birdie to a par. If I could end wind when I play disc golf or end world hunger I would end wind in a heartbeat! Thanks for another banger Mike 👍Hope you don’t get too much wind.

Omg I still can't believe you make disc golf videos as well as clash royale videos! I mean what are the chances those are some of my fav hobbies!! It is actually soooo helpful and I can't believe you can get such massive distances!! I live in the UK so when I try to throw my discs the wind gets them and I can only get like 200 feet but that is a guess because we use meters here and also sometimes my discs fly into fields of cows!! Anyway this video is gonna really help my technique and hopefully reduce my flutter! Maybe if I throw with the wind behind me I could get 400 feet and avoid the cows!!!!

This is exactly what I was thinking, I love The Holtster for clash and D-golf. Using these tips I’ve managed to prevent wobble and add an extra 50ft to my game. Hopefully this will be enough to prevent my dad beating me, at least in disc golf :(
@Jinjahea

@@rorymacmahon5578 Another key technique to prevent wobble is to stretch before disc golf sessions!! Make sure your biceps and triceps are warmed up so you dont get a sore elbow like @MikeManning has commented. Stretch next time you play and let me know about the results 😃

Forehand is very natural for me, the biggest thing I have to focus on when doing it is trying to keep my shoulders more level to keep it lower to the ground. To remove flutter, grip the disc harder and focus on not turning the wrist. For a reference point I throw hyzerflip axiom excites to 440' on flat ground no wind.

Great video! Super informative! Sidearm form is different in a lot of ways to backhand, but equally important! It’s quite amazing how people can throw 3 step sidearms or one finger sidearms simply by cranking on their hips!😂

@@MHDiscgolf that’s cool! To me that just sounds painful lol but for some people it works well! It shows how much more of your wrist and the rest of your body you use throwing forehands than your finger grip. While grip is hugely important, it’s different for everybody how you get comfortable with grip.

I feel like the leg kick reminds me of leaning to the right during the throw to give the elbow room. Ryan Sheldon explains this is how he throws bombs. I too have been loving the Grace on sidearms. My favorite is a beat in overstable disc like that blue Rive you’ve got. For me that’s easier than throwing anhyzer lines.

Try paul mcbeths grip. I tried 1 finger and liked it but it definitely decreased my distance! Stack and normal power grip didn't feel good. I then discovered this modified power grip and never looked back.

KEEP YOUR DISC RIGHT NEXT TO YOUR EAR. Open elbow= no power bent elbow= a bunch of power with less effort. Also practice keeping your right foot on the ground will help your balance exponentially. Reach back with your elbow instead of your hand that helps accuracy as well!!!! Love seeing you play this game I love. I have watched you since clash of clans😂 hope this helps you buddy buddy keep up the practice i wanna see you do big things!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me the two most important things in sidearms are nose angle and hip rotation! You really have to be careful to keep the nose angle down, it’s easy to pop it up especially on force over flex shots. Also footwork is important as you get most of your power from your hips. I’d also say it’s important to keep your palm up as long as possible through your follow through in a sidearm. That allows the disc to catch its nose up way less often. It’s similar to a baseball swing, and how you want your palm to remain up in your swing as long as possible

I dont really get how to engage the hips in a forehand. Its something im struggling with.
@MHDiscgolf

@electricblaster3480
@electricblaster3480 2 года назад
@@shibo2319 it’s something that takes a lot of work! I was a baseball player so it was engraved in my brain to engage my hip. Something I used to do as a drill was to attach a stretch band to my hips, and my trainer would pull back on it. While he pulled back, I pulled forward and practiced turning my hips. It’s something that takes a lot of practice but it helps so much
@electricblaster3480
@electricblaster3480 2 года назад
@@shibo2319 it also just doesn’t feel natural for most people compared to backhands. That’s one reason why forehands don’t go as far as backhands.

I've heard guys say they throw their best sidearm when they focus on snapping their hips (which will pull that trail leg around) with the disc lagging and the wrist snap becomes automatic. Have you ever tried that?!?!
@MHDiscgolf

I’ve definitely done that, when I step out to the side that’s being my hips around, but I guess I should try and rotate at the hip more and see

I have a theory that the way muscle and tendons develop on a skinny/lanky person allows them to develop forehand distance more easily than an average human. Seems most of the forehand greats I know are built like you. Either way, I can always learn something thanks.

My sidearm sucks! I've worked hard, but can never release it right. I feel stupid when I throw as hard as I can, then have to walk 50 feet and throw it again! Lol But really, I hardly ever get it to go more than 200 feet. I have worked hard but can't get it right ever.... Good video tho! Way to go
@SternSupremacy

The reason I don’t do sidearm much is because it tends to hurt my elbow, which I know means my form is bad. Do you know what I’m doing that would make that happen? Feels like tennis/golf elbow.
@MHDiscgolf

I wear a sleeve to help mine when it starts to get sore so that could help you. And you want to rotate at your shoulder as well as your elbow so that you don’t put all the force on your elbow

Exact Same here. Any tips for us?
@MHDiscgolf
@MHDiscgolf 2 года назад
One thing I noticed was that my grace didn’t get as much flutter as my rives did. So throwing more neutral discs should keep you from rolling your wrist because you aren’t trying to give it anny like you might a more overstable driver. But I would say to try and keep your palm up. You’ll see Adam hammes do this a lot through release. If your palm is up you can’t roll as easily

@@MHDiscgolf I will be focusing on this during field work today. My grace has also been a workhorse for me, but haven’t thrown it sidearm yet. Time to give it a try!

@@MHDiscgolf I threw in the field today and focused on keeping my wrist back before my pull back, and CONTINUING MY HIP ROTATION through the shot!!! That’s what really did it for me. For the first time I was throwing 320-330 with my Wraiths. And a lot less wobble! In reference, I’ve been playing for just over a year and touch 450 with backhand drives. It’s been really frustrating with measly 250’ forehand wobbly shots. But today was awesome!!! I’ll be working on adding more distance every field session. Great video thank you it’s the one that hopefully finally put it all together.

I have had sore tendons on the inside of my elbow down to my forearm. Try to take some power off your throw and let the disc do the work for you. You might lose a little distance, but you probably won’t be sore.
@MHDiscgolf

I do haha, my elbow has been sore for like 4 days after making this video. I threw a lot of shots though. In a normal round you wouldn’t throw this many max distance side arms

@@MHDiscgolf That makes sense. I guess you just warm up and then don’t throw for max distance sidearms too many times in a round. Just recently we’ve seen Uli, Eagle, and Simon effected by sidearm injuries. I’d like to avoid that.
