This is one of the reasons so few locals take these jobs. People from abroad look at the wage and compare it to what they earn at home and think it's great, but don't take into account the cost of existing here then get stuck. It's really sad (in many ways), and absolutely disgusting that yet again the Tories are attacking the most vulnerable and poorest in society, unaware of or ignoring how it's their policies that made many of them that way. They've fucked everything up. We can't even run our aircraft carriers properly and don't have enough aircraft to actually put on them, or fire our nuclear deterrent which is decades out of date due to lack of investment. I feel bad for the next government who has to clean up after this lot. We have a generation or more of crap to fix thanks to this lots incompetence and indifference especially in the realms of what Brexit has done.

The problem is care agency salaries. My carers don't see enough of what I have to pay, even though I'm on benefits myself.

The main problem is that privately owned care companies (many American!) don’t pay enough, so workers with children have to claim top up benefits. Corporate socialism.

Nah, I think the main problem is care is a grinding, backbreaking job with long, antisocial hours, poor career progression and terrible wages, which means, given we have an aging population, we're sort of screwed unless we can get people from overseas. And, given most care workers are adult women, they're going to have dependents that they can't leave in their country to come here and look after OUR dependendents.
