I never understand how someone can MOVE to another country based on the things they see in dramas. I’m Turkish and I see lots of Spanish and Arab and… women traveling to Istanbul thinking those guys in Turkish dramas are real☠️ like no girl! run away!! 😂😂

This is true, but I will have to say being raised goes out the window sometimes when it comes to the curiosity of being a foreigner. Especially the stereotypes that comes with it.
I have been dating and been in some relationships with koreans living in Korea for 10 years now. I have not had any terrible / traumatic experiences . But maybe I was lucky or i chose really wisely who to have serious relationships with. They can be great lovers if they take the girl seriously. When you have a bad perception of the guy during the first date don t go any further nd belive in your instinct. And an advice for foreign girls in Korea should be also to be beware of extremely handsome korean dudes. Some can be decent men ( i dated few of them ) but the majority when they ask you for a date out it's just for an ONS but they don't have the balls to tell you face to face. Then they try to manipulate you into bed. They have narcissistic tendencies and fragile egos nd can t handle rejection. These type of beings have always failed with me and I "take advantage" of all by charging them for dinner and drinks and don t give in in the end. You must have great self-esteem to don t fall victim of these idiotics. Even for an ONS one should be respectful and clear about one's intentions.
There are good Korean men and bad Korean men. Good Korean men: sweet, gentle, and polite. They call and text you everyday, and try to meet as often as possible (2-3 times a week?). They may look a little bit obsessive compared to other country people, but that’s Korean dating culture. they try to accommodate you and prepare dates to please you. They do “couple clothes” “couple ring” . They like women speak their mind directly (what she wants, what she doesn't like) because their objectives are to “please” you. The Dont try “skinship” before commitment. They respect foreign women just like they would do to Korean women. Bad Korean men: 1. men in nightclub, dating apps. they go after foreign woman with sexual intention. 2. They try “skinship” (touching) from the beginning. 3. They Dont call or text you everyday. They Dont try to meet you a lot. 4. They comment on your look or other women’s look. (Most Korean men know it's rude to comment on women’s appearance) . Those are huge red flags. 5. They have out-dated mind of gender roles. Most young Koreans don’t care for “traditional” (Confucius) ideas about gender roles. One thing about Korean culture. Korean culture has age-hierarchy. So Koreans tend to date and marry a person within close age. Girl can be older. Older girl-younger men relationship is normal if she is not many years older. (Some men have “nuna” fetish. They like older girls, which is acceptable. ). But huge age gap is often frowned upon. If you are in your 20s, you meet a person , like no more than 4years older or younger. Because age is hierarchy and having a big gap in age mean it’s hard to be equal to the partner. So Koreans will take more time and think more seriously if they meet a person who is much older or younger. There are a lot of international marriages between older Korean men and young foreign women, and usually Koreans dont look at it a good way because those men are usually not the “good men” type.
Good explanation. I'm kinda tired of bad Korean guys suddenly being representation of 100% Korean guys in internet space. We don't say American white men are bad because of those shool shootings, police brutality and neo nazi marchings. I mean there is stereotypes that foeign girls are easy in every place. If you are 35 years old, and someone introduce you a 10 year older man, you may will feel insulted. 5-7 years older man, you may feel ok. If you are 45, you my feel ok to date 10 years older man. Of course It is not a rule but culture so it depends on the individuals - how the younger party feel. in general, Koreans tend to marry within their age group. older men usually avoid approach young girls because young girls can feel offended. I told my daughter only date men within 2 years age difference until she is 25. Until 20, only the same age. Older men can manipulate young girls. By the way, Koreans Dont marry in their 20s. Less then 1% Koreans in 20s are married. When you meet Koreans in 30s, they think of potential marriage, so they are more serious about relationships.

Does K-drama romance exist? Yes! Maybe not the rich and powerful part 😂, but many Korean men are handsome, sweet, gentle, romantic, etc. I have dated Korean men and western men, and in my experience, relationships with Korean men tend to be much more romantic and dramatic. My most passionate Korean boyfriend was also toxic 😂. He was a very nice, handsome, good guy (all girls had crush on him), but is so jealous and insecure, his jealousy ate him up alive 😅 We broke up soon (I mean, he was crazy! 😂) but the passion and romantic experiences he gave me were something I can never forget. I had European and American boyfriends too. The relation with them were stable but less dramatic 😂 , I married an American guy. He is very good and sweet, but not passionate like Korean men 😂
The portrayal of romantic men is rather realistic in K-drama. I have had many Korean male friends who are very handsome, gentle, sweet, polite, romantic. Even more than the k drama. On the other hand, the portrayal of the rich people in kdrama is really funny to me. I went to high school and college with chaebol kids, super rich kids. They have the same life style as we middle class. They are not that fancy. They have bigger houses- which size is similar to American middle class house- and nice cars. But rich students take bus and subways just like us. I had a classmate in high school who had his own car and driver, and he was looked down at by other boys. He was kind of a loser. It’s not like “the boys over flowers “😂. When the rich kids date, they go to the same kind of restaurant, eat street food, go to pretty cafes and theme park, seduce with “ramen” 🤣. I guess when they get older and get more allowance, they take girlfriend to fancier places, but so is other middle class. rich and poor kids go to the same kind of school (except some rich kids go to International school or abroad these days). The description of rich people in k-drama are fantasy. If anybody act like that in real life he/she is probably “the rich-wannabe” not the real rich. I had super rich friends and very poor friends (who live in rooftop or basement ) in the same friends group. You cannot tell who is the rich and who is poor. Poor people also dress well, and super rich people are not that fancy. Korea is very homogenous society.

@@live_julie yes, you are right 😂 He was passionate and loving but also had a lot of emotional issues- I got angry at his obsessive behavior and he knew he was wrong so we broke up soon 😂. It was not a healthy relationship. Koreans are emotional and sensitive so the romance can be dramatic, but it can have a dark side too. By the way, my American husband says living with me is like riding a “rollercoaster” 🤣 it's funny you mentioned rollercoaster. I Dont think I'm a very emotional type, but i’m hot-tempered like many Koreans. 😅

The good Korean men are gentle, sweet, romantic, treat you like a princess, and if they are in love, their feelings are so deep that they would die for you 😂. It may be a good experience to datesome good Korean men. On the other hand, I Dont recommend marrying them. Once you marry a Korean in Korea, your relationship becomes all about responsibility and duty, keeping up with others and surviving in competitive society. There is not much room for romance anymore. Koreans jokingly call spouse “combat partner” in war-like Korean society. That's why marriage-rate is getting very low now in Korea.

Great video. I haven't watched the K drama that much eventhough I'm Korean myself, but I might be surprised that to know if someone think K drama is real. Recently I heard a lot of this K drama or K culture thing more than I thought. The reason why many people talking about this K drama is it's new to western society basically. Asian is minority in West, they don't get good representation that often. So they don't know about Asians at all or they only know Asians with sterotypes(like Asian have small pp or Asian women are submissive and easy) But now, we have streaming service like Netflix, Netflix has brought many TV shows and Movies from all the kind of countries. And Netflix supports English voice and subtitles. It is easy to watch K drama without difficulty. That is why I guess many people have fantasy about Korea and Korean male? Well, I'd say the same for west. I'm quite Hollywood lover. I enjoy American shows and movies. And their movies are easy to draw people into fantasy just like K drama I think. Media, especailly movies, shows generally don't want to mirror reality. Not just in Korea, every media in the world does. So it is quite stupid to believe K drama is real and get disappointed it wasn't as you thought it would be. Because it is same thinking with "I believe hollywood media is real."

@@kimckawa yes just different problems. Many housewives were on medications for anxiety and or drank frequently. When I talked to my grandmas friends in their 90‘s I have asked about the differences back then. Men were checked out of the home front and child rearing unless it was camping or cars. They really didn’t want to sit and talk with their wives. Also women often had sex and just laid there if they were married to a man that was abusive and it was about 50/50. they also in many cases cheated on their wives because they could. So women had to say no in other ways back then, but still bad.

There are hundreds of foreign women w Korean bf/husband openly sharing their stories, daily family dynamics- children, in-laws etc allwhile living in Korea. It can be instructive if you're curious or at minimum entertaining.
In any relationship : time will always be a truth teller. Friendship, love relationship, even work relationship. Take always time to let the truth appear. Korean are like other culture at the end. Good and bad ppl , good ppl can bad behave with you , bad ppl can change also. The real truth is to respect yourself first, and trust you deserve the best. Bad situation happen when you fool yourself or don’t listen red flags. Red flags « common » for Korean guy are same for western guys. The most recognisable red flag for Korean guys is when they try to explain you Korean women are so bad/not interesting /not funny/not pretty to them, they only wanna date foreigners women. All my friend in Korea can relate this ( it will be red flag too for western guy to say something like this) the guy who say something like that is a bad guy,100% sure you will be disappointed at some point, no matter how much smart or nice he will be with you.
I found that the ladies who have bad experience with Korean guys and compain about them on RU-vid have one thing in common. They met Korean guys at the clubbing places like Hongdae. There is very low chance to meet good guys in those places. Here are some the tips. Avoid those places. Guys with high level occupations will give you higher chance to have serious relationship. Maybe in your country it doesn't matter, but it does matter in Korea cos it is related with educational matter. Ask guy to move to your country. Guys who are serious about foreign relationship are open to move to their partner's home country. If you wanna find Ferrari, do not go to junkyard. You can never find it in there.
LoL We Filipinos are big Kpop and Kdramas fans but we know the fact that what we have seen on tv are not happening in reality maybe some I guess.There are hundreds and thousands Koreans are currently living and studying in the Philippines and they are the one who told us that don't easily believe on what we saw on Kdramas, it's quite far from reality.
I met two times this lovely man from Korea. He was here in Finland studying, and clearly wanted to get memories- if you know what I mean. He got mad at me, cause I didn't invite him at my apartment in the evening. He was spoiled rich" kid" clearly nobody hasn't said him no before. I didn't date a Korean guy, but I was friends with one and I think he wanted to date me, but I didn't see it. He was amazing, I really thought he could be "the one", but I ended up finding his Facebook and it was very shocking. It was like a completely different person, which was very scary to me cuz how could he act so good? Ultimately I think he was probably a scam, cuz of the accounts on his friends list, they were very scam like. Still if the side I knew was real, minus the insanity of his FB... Where did the stereotype that Western women are easy come from? it's the same as you expecting Korean men are romantic by watching K-dramas. it may not be entirely true, but it's not entirely false either. dramas are based on certain things that the society can relate to even if it's fiction.
The short answer to "Where did the stereotype that Western women are easy come from ?" is porn because in (western) porn content, it's mostly active western women and men (they are also more adventurous) and if you watch Korean porn (really different from Japanese porn), you can easily catch the difference because Korean women are portrayed super passive and seem to wait and Korean men super selfish. In Japanese porn, Japanese men seem to want to please their partners more (even more than in western porn).
Because western people (not only women) are down for hookups and one night stands and have no problem in jumping from one relationship to another 🤷🏻♀️ so yeah this makes y’all easy asf (same goes to filipino and tai women)

But thinking Western guys are as romantic/nice/caring as Korean men, it's a big mistake. That's why, even relationships between Western guys and Korean women are also disappointed for women. Knowing the western guy feedback on this type of relationship, I am pretty sure they haven't expected that. The big difference is not Western people are ok with one night stands or hook-ups (even it's true) rather that physical relationship is way more important in the West, even among a couple relationship, than in South Korea. There seems to be a fetish with things western among east asians, regardless men or women. It's just that what is considered beautiful asian in the eyes of western men is considered ugly by most asians incl the women. So yes generally western men have lower aesthetics standards. Not sure about the western women but I'd like to think they have higher standard and expectation than their male counterparts based on the foreign men they date or marry. The thinking that western women (whether real or not in actual) is based on Hollywood movies mainly etc and the actresses. It's not uncommon to hear soon after a certain actress (or actor) got divorced or separated, they are onto their next crush in a matter of weeks. And how in these movies too both men and women just jump into bed and steamy sex scenes on the first date. From these movies, western women are also mostly portrayed as loud, uncouth and wild, vesus say those women in Victorian era dramas. So yes, you could say just like K dramas, media shape the impressions we all have about certain type of people, and so generalisations arise. It's the same thing how we form impressions of each country.

Many dudes in SK think that being "open minded" means you like to sleep around and 🤣 bro that has nothing to do with the definition of open mindedness. From my experience, the foreign female - korean man couple doesn't stand a long time because most of Korean men consider foreign women as toys or trophy they can exhibit everywhere (they don't want a serious relationship with a foreign woman). More over, western women have often a strong personality and have a very free mind (because of their liberal education), so it's not very compatible with korean men who are very conservative and have a traditional view of women role in society. By the opposite, relationships between foreign man and korean woman are easier, most of time korean women are happy to date foreign men because they find them different from korean men, more gentle and with a own personality.
