thick skin - it's something that Filipinos acquire out of necessity to survive the Filipino culture's absence of sensitivity on people. They definitely don't mean offense though. There are over 10 million Filipinos abroad and they have either seen the similarity of that culture in many parts of Asia and its complete opposite in North America where people speak with a bit of lie to avoid offense. Example in Canada and the States, (just a sense of it) people would use "healthy" and never the word "fat" to anyone. But of course they use the word fat behind the person. But I believe the western way is the way to do it. The Filipinos in the west have started to contribute to the change when they vacation back to the Philippines. Slow change. And it would take a very long time to eliminate Asians' irritating frankness when commenting on people's looks and stuffs. Culture does not stop evolving. It either pleases or displeases and each and every country has their share.

As a mom of 2 boys living here in Norway, I love to cook for them, sometimes the younger one will come to me to massage his head, his back, even he already finished his masteral in civil engineering and already working. I love he is at home after work during weekend. Yes of course, here is when you get to 18 yrs ols, bahala ka na sa buhay mo,but my kids I supported them until they finished their university. I love doing that, until now cooking for them, the older one lives in Oslo still studying cuz he first work and travel around South America.Nice topic guys. Only seen you today.

OMG 100% tama kayo! The comments about mom's making comparisons is spot on! In the states where I was born and grew up, I remember my mom always saying something like, "Sayang! tignan mo...Look at your cousins' grades! You should and could do better!" Or how Filipino relatives can be blunt with the comments which got under my skin as a kid, but over the years, I've learned to ignore and maybe excuse them for it. This was very refreshing and as an adult now, I have a much better understanding of our culture. Sometimes those blunt seemingly insensitive remarks are really coming from a good place, 'diba? Thanks again guys!! Looking forward to more fascinating topics mga kababayan!

I forgot to mention that I"m only now studying Tagalog, even though I"ve been exposed to it growing up, my birth language is North American English. As far as other languages, I do speak German. Studied it in High School and used it frequently when I served in the US Air Force in Germany and still speak it today with business contacts and friends in Germany and Austria.

I am speaking as a filipino mom of 5 grown-up kids, usually if i would say to my kids," ooh you're too fat or too skinny", it's not because I want to body shame them, the reason was I am concerned for their health...and who would care to tell them that other than me as their mom. I don't want a sugar-coated comment on my kids. sorry for my grammar, but I hope you get my point. thank you and God bless.

I'm a mom of a hybrid son (Eurasian) living in the US and try to not compare him with anyone or correct my siblings when they do it (even positively), as I didn't like to be compared to my cousins during my childhood. Nevertheless, I do give him some reality check criticism at home since he's the only child and always our sonshine. I'm the disciplinarian between me and my husband but, surprisingly, our son understands me. I've always conversed with him with maturity since he was little and never sugarcoat anything. I do show him respect for him to emulate. I randomly praise and/or criticize him in equal terms because I'd like to prepare him with the reality outside home. I told him that he can reason out or cite that I'm wrong in a respectful way, so we won't misunderstand his thoughts. There's a wide gap between our age because we had him in our later years, so he acts very mature and well-mannered (20 yrs). I literally ask for his opinion and advice now. ☺️

It is my first time to see you three, so I subscribed. I salute you all for being tamed. It shows how you all were brought up. I am living in the US , but I also lived in the Phils. I am a proud filipino and a mother of three. Sensitivity of your mothers is unique to them, because I considered myself a sensitive mom. I know I am so proud of my children with whatever they accomplished and that is to all filipino moms. One day, you will thank your mom for all the care you all been getting. You guys looked great!. Your family values that you learned from your moms make others envious. Mabuhay kayo!.

My mom barely showed affection to us due to her busy schedule. Before she passed away, she told me she was sorry for failing to be a good mother. I told her she didn't fail. She taught us respect, humility, fairness. & a privileged life. We were heartbroken when my mom chose DNR. She didn't want to be a burden & she was very tired. Another last thing she said, take care of our employees. Now, we let them manage the house & make decisions unsupervised. We barely go to that house since we all live in the States. I'm not comfortable living in a 7 bedrooms & bathrooms house with 3 people living in it. It's creepy. Mom had that house built for her kids so we can have our reunion there. Unfortunately, it never happened. We all have our own separate lives with busy schedules. Even though she is gone, she remains in my heart.

I believe Filipina Moms were really so selfless in general🥰🫶🏻 yes, Moms and people in general do have diff. kinds of love language but Filipina Moms have that distinct love for their child that even tho women today were so empowered juggling their work to household chores one can definitely see/feel how Filipina moms go out of their way at the expense of their "me time" or even their work. Also, I agree that Filipino loves to "compare" but i believe its coming out of love or concern and sometimes out of insecurity. Being kind and nurturing as a person, not only as a mom shouldn't be an "unique" traits but yeah, Filipina moms is totally GOAT!🥰🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻❤️

That was a great discussion. Sounds like you all enjoyed a quintessential Filipino upbringing, which is definitely a good thing. As for topic suggestions, maybe you could consider answering questions like these in your upcoming videos: Liz & Becca - how would you compare living in Nigeria to living in the Philippines? What are some some key differences and similarities? Chase- what sparked your interest in the culinary arts? Have you ever tried your hand at creating your own Filipino-French fusion dishes or confections? Also, I think it would be cool to showcase your cooking skills in the same vein as Salt Bae, while participating in discussions. You could also include the food prep and actual cooking process for good measure. Just thought I'd throw that idea out there.

I believe that what it boils down to is our mom's "intentions". it's what she believes what is good for us. But, we sometimes, don't believe in it or her, what is good for us, simply because we have our own minds and ideas, even at a young age. We only realize it when we mature and gain wisdom later in life. Moms are the best gift we've ever received in life in my honest opinion and I truly believe that and I never forget it. Thank you for this video, I really enjoyed your conversation about Filipino Moms, what a great topic, and you two made a subscriber out of me !

Agree..that Goodlooking thingy..but should be seen in the context of a Philippine setting where there is still Colonial Mentality, and much of Social Media zeroing more of the Whitening products. Also on how the World perceive what is beautiful..each country has its own criteria on beauty. Its like the mixed Filipino- Foreign look may not be appreciated in the Middle Eastern countries..or in South Korea, etc.
