😂 the Filipino avoidance of conflict- very very true. To the point where it becomes annoying. One time, I had salad for lunch, there was a piece of green stuck on my front teeth… I went home and my sister pointed it out. So the entire afternoon, I was laughing, talking to everyone in the office and nobody bothered to point out that I have food stuck to my teeth… I mean WTF! 😅😅 Later, I learned that many people will adapt just so they don’t embarrass you or themselves. Their concept of “HIYA” is sooooo uniquely Filipino that there’s literally no direct English translation I give. Then there’s the mañana habit and the “Filipino time”. ❤
Lol yes, definitely true. Filipinos are socially sensitive. They are not comfrontational. However, it depends also to the location like in Metromanila some of people are straightforward
i get it when the brazilian says the philippines feels like home. ive been to brazil and countries in latin america like peru, panama, costa rica, argentina and mexico. im surprised that brazilians feels so much like filipinos in terms of our temperament and culture. people say that mexico and philippines are culturally closer (actually all the latin american countries ive been in is similar to philippines in personality and warmth) but i think brazil and philippines have the same (almost similar) kind of warmth or vibe.
I've lived in Brazil and now Filipines. And it's TRUE. Brazilians are very friendly, like Filipinos. The difference I would say the crime and violence in Brazil is million times worse. Which is a shame because they are a beautiful people.

The last lady interviewed was spot on when she said that Filipinos avoid conflicts. Culturally we are conflict avoiders and non confrontational. That becomes a problem eventually, and that needs to be changed. What most of us do not understand is that engaging in conflicts can be healthy. 🙂
@@Funandfail1 Hello. I would respectfully disagree with that. Conflict avoidance is never healthy. You have to deal with conflict because only then will there be resolution. Pag umiwas ka sa conflict, itatago mo lang yon hanggang lumalim at eventually you will blow up. Psychology does not advise that we run away from conflict.
I've always thought the most non-confrontational country is Japan. After all, Filipinos can be confrontational when we need to. For example, it's not uncommon here to see criminals being lynched or people openly/verbally denouncing someone who's being "iskandalosa" (scandalous/disruptive) in public. But for the most part, Filipinos tend to value self preservation so we try to avoid conflicts. In other words, we are kind and gentle, but we're not soft.
I think the last part of the interview from the lady expat from Ukraine made the most frankly and relevant observation about the Philippines. Everything the culture and lifestyle in the Philippines is relatively true especially for foreign tourist and expats having a culture shock adapting in other countries😊😊😊
We Filipinos talk about bad to each other, even to our relatives or family, thats our culture but spitting bad to foreigners who visited or live in Philippines, I will promise you those words you won't hear to local Young, adult, even the elders. That's our true nature as A Filipino.

I've been going to the Philippines for 30 years and just returned from there. The biggest cultural shock for me was how little cultural shock there is today compared to 30 years ago. The internet has made the world much smaller and the Philippines has made tremendous strides. The Filipino's should be proud of the progress they have made and the bright future they have before them.
We're doing good today any. Every Year educated people 96 percent educated , in flying to factory worker Crew even our country fastfood in mall had degree, ,4 year's ,but it's good to think the progress of my culture
Agreed, I was there a few months ago, before that it was 20 years ago, and no one stared at me even though I am a big Filipino guy in comparison 6'2" tall and 240lb. Before you would think I was an alien, and everything was so much cleaner today especially the air. I honestly didn't want to come back home.
The Ukrainian lady made me laugh because she was so on point about how Filipinos would behave in work. 😄😄😄 It is seldom for Filipinos to be cheeky in work. Others are quite jokers. But for timid and ultra shy Filipinos, they will tend to simply listen, walk away, start working, and no questions asked. But they can see if you're treating them right or not. Even silence without thank you is simply implying that he was grateful because of your help. Sometimes they just don't know how to express their words in English fluently. But they fully understood everything that you say. 👍💚💛💜 Even small children can understand you while they are staring at you with their eyes and mouths wide open. 😄🏵️
If you don't know, Filipino timidity is a defense mechanism to learned helplessness. When resources are thin, those in the position that control it have cart blanche power to replace anyone at whim, more so against those who could be a threat, or those whom they perceive that go against the grain. I know because my company subcontracts level 1 Filipino workers for initial stage administrative processes. It is CHALLENGE to get true assessments from those in the "foxholes" when all have been preconditioned to never go against the grain because everyone is on thin ice - maybe except those who have strong "kapits". In the US, it's not the same; companies are more honest to explore competing ideas with less emphasis where it's from. In my case, I was even called into the CEO's office and was admonished to make sure to offer my own; otherwise I shouldn't even be there! Unfortunate for them, now they can't get me to shut up! I have become the necessary evil pointing to things that could, that may, and those that will never work, lol! All jokes aside, I can tell it's appreciated esp when I am able to demonstrate how much cost we've/ will manage to streamline - more blatantly put, save - without sacrificing internal check and balances. I try to build the same environment with my fellow pinoys in the Phil but they just wont. Their local managers (more like handlers) will keep things from you and the people below will never say a thing even when the whole ship is sinking with them in it! I am Filipino in the US btw.
The lady from Ukraine, her points of view about the Filipino people was very interesting. She made some good points. When I first came to the U.S., I could see right away how most people are very straightforward and they are not afraid to speak up even if that means disagreeing others opinions. But at the same time I don't like that some of them are very entitled 😕
I think some of them don't know the difference between being blunt and disrespectful, I've never been in the US but a lot of Americans online are straight up rude but they still think they're just being honest and straightforward😬😬😬

That is why too much freedom and privilege will put a country in a worse condition. Look at the culture of America today-it's a dying culture, a hate culture. Because of excessive privilege, people there prioritize only themselves, hence there are massive broken families today, and because of that their children never learn to value their families. With too much privilege they feel entitled, and they forget how to put their self on the ground. Then, when they became old, they realized that they didn't have companionship because they forgot to value their families and friends; hence, they will travel abroad just to find someone that would care for them and to find happiness.

You have to travel from place to place to see what you have seen in the internet. Every island has its own beauty with different culture.
It's actually nice knowing that the Philippine corporate world has a more laid-back culture, which is in wide contrast compared to its asian neighbors (Japan, South Korea), and we all know how having a toxic work culture impacts the workers' well-being. It's also probably one of the reasons why suicide rate is low in the Philippines. Everyone is almost always generally happy.
Unless you are working for the BPO industry where you are serving clients from the US and we have to adapt to the culture of the United States. I know that from experience because I was an offshore project manager for Wells Fargo and we have to adapt to the way they do things. If it's holiday in the Philippines we work because I it's regular working day in the US. If it's holiday in the US , we are still expected to work because americans take advantage of that to get more work done. The BPO industry is far from relaxing. Majority of the people who works there experience all kinds of stress and mental problems because of the demanding American clients. I know that for a fact because I suffered from a major mental breakdown and I decided to leave the corporate world.
People who does not work for the BPO industry, yes it's laid-back but majority of the Filipinos now work for the BPO industry unless you are in the customer facing service industry.
I used to work for the BPO industry and of course, I adapted by following work policies. That doesn't mean I have to adapt their culture. Instead, I familiarized myself with their culture since having knowledge about their culture is very helpful in establishing rapport. Still, I don't want to adapt the American culture simply because it's not into my liking. Asian culture, especially Filipino is better since filipinos in general are happier and more laid back.

The Indian guy is as Filipino as any other Pinoys who grew up here. You can tell by his accent, his nuances and mannerisms that he’s culturally Filipino since he was born and raised here.

I visited about twelve years ago and I was shocked at how welcoming and friendly the people in the Philippines are. My wife and I are planning on moving there with in the next three years.
So those people have spoken about the Filipinos and the Philippines from thier experiences living here in our humble Philippines. I have lived and worked in South East Asia, Middle East and Germany for some years in these countries. The filipinos are the best people on earth to be with. People in those mentioned countries spoke negative about my country even without coming here. Once they come here, they can likewise talk thier experience living here like those foreigners you have interviewed. As filipino who had lived in other countries I would say It's more fun in the Philippines. It's maybe hot here but stress free life! Proud Filipino here.🏝️❤️🇵🇭
The Ukrainian has the most interesting observations. She would be surprised if she would learn that it's not only rules that Filipinos are following without question but also superstitious beliefs 😁 To answer her question regarding the wearing of face shield and face mask upon entering restaurants and fastfood but not while eating, it was for minimizing the length of the exposure since you only need to remove them while eating and it was one seat/table apart back then. I remember watching videos of Americans complaining regarding the wearing of face mask at the height of pandemic. In this case, I was glad that Filipinos mostly try to avoid conflicts that's why we just obey, it's both a good thing and a bad thing. I also don't think we follow without complaints all the time, we just complain through social media 😂✌️
I’m a 20 years old Filipino and had been in 3 countries (UAE, Hongkong, Malaysia) and lived there with my mom for a while. They’re right about the warmth of us filipinos and how different we are from other Asians. I’ve been to Malaysia and I’m sure some of them are nice but I noticed they’re not so smiley and welcoming as we are. It’s not bad, it’s their culture but it did gave me a sense of why the Philippines is known for the hospitality and kindness.
I have to say this, the best part for me on this video is the moment when the young German man commented on the economic differences with the well to do and the slums. His eyes and facial expression changed, knowing he is from a prominent country and seeing first hand the conditions of the poor, this young man saw and felt it and I hope it will inspire him in his future. I see this every time I fly back home.
Shocking talaga sa atin ang huge divide between the rich and the poor. Nung tumira ako sa first world country, yung basurero namin naka Mercedes Benz. Yung mga construction worker umiinom sa hotel pag lunch break nila. Bihira ang mga subdivision na gated. Walang security guard sa mall. Kaya hindi special maging mayaman doon eh lahat naman mayaman basta masipag. Sa atin, kawawa talaga mga pilipino. Dinadaan sa resiliency lagi.
the ist guy actually lived in the Philippines since his childhood so he knows the situation, the family lives in Ayala Alabama village, his parents still lives there, he travels a lot so he can compares the Philippines to other Asian countries, sad but Philippines is lagging when it comes to tourism, 5he only advantage of Filipinos are being good english speakers compared to other Asians
the great culture shock as an italian, I had... and still have today after 25 years.. is how happy i am married with my filipina wife..we came from very different life styles Italy-Philippines.. but still we are a super happy couple
#1 Philippines is not just beaches. slums and high-end cities exist too. #2 as part of their culture- Filipinos are generally nice and hospitable, they would approach and help you even if they don't know you. #3 the Filipino is a happy culture and takes things easy without a rush. #4 the Philippines is a 3rd world country and is considered poor by others, but when you actually go there it doesn't much seem to be that way because they are actually doing good for themselves.
Some Indians still live in communities where other fellow Indians also reside, you will still practice your culture even if you're born and raised in other countries and by still practicing the culture of your parents' home country you can spot the differences from the country you're born and raised in .
It seems you don’t know indians or haven’t been outside of the philippines. Indians tend to group together as expats, they would actually prefer indian or pakistani neighbours. Majority of them would not eat local or foreign food as they would only prefer their own even if the ingredients are so hard to find. I’ve know grown-ass indians in their 30’s that have not even tried pizza or think that pizza has only one flavour. In general they don’t want to go out of their comfort zones with the exception of a few. Their culture is instilled on them even if they are born on a foreign land, thus it’s not surprising to me that this guy even phil born would still be culture shocked.
Alona's (Ukrainian girl) point when Filipinos line up and not knowing what they're lining up for is so true! So many times have I asked which line is for which and people don't seem to know what they're lining up for especially those that are at the ends of such long lines! We, filipinos, are so afraid to ask that we tend to sacrifice our time for the sake of not looking uninformed/unaware and/or being embarassed.

I believe her point makes sense, I often questions these rules that doesn't make sense especially in pandemic era. Remember there's a rule that only couple that live with each other who are allowed to ride a motorcycle, but they have to have a shield or something that separates them. How can this make sense when at the end of the day they will sleep with each other at night? But then again It boils down to her 1st point the Filipino avoid conflict. We rather follow the rule that doesn't make sense than exert energy to the things that's not worth our time.

I so agree of the Ukrainian lady with regard to the rules being implemented like the one she mentioned about face shield. I live in the states now, but when I found out about the Covid quarantine & testing, my family was laughing because I was cursing & questioning about the implementations of it, it was so stupid & nonsense.
The thing is, its a very simple rule that would not even take 5 seconds to do, so most Filipino's would rather do it than cause more trouble "abala" The Ukrainian Woman pointed some accurate things tho, I like this interview
My biggest culture shock in the Philippines was the fact that they do not have toilet seats on their western style toilets in the huge shopping malls in Las Pinas and Alabang in Laguna province outside of Manila. That was quite a shock for me during my first trip to Asia. That was in 2016.
It’s because most people don’t seat when they use toilet. At least for most women. I don’t know about men. Unless your taking a shit, most women squat when urinating (not on the vowl, but by just bending knees. Lol
How come everyone gives "positive" culture shocks? My culture shock is how insanely small their bathrooms are. It's a tiny space where the shower, toilet, and sink are literally right next to one another. Unless the homes have a modern bathroom design, there is rarely a shower. Just a big bucket of water with the tabo and you splash water all over yourself but end up getting water over everything else as well because of the small space and vicinity of the toilet and sink. And most toilets don't have a toilet seat! They just sit on the ring of toilet!? Gross! Also, the roads have no dividing lanes. It's just one big road and everyone is pushing through. When you come to a 4 way street, there is no stop or yield signs and sometimes not even a light. If a car on the perpendicular street wants to get though, he just slowly inches his way into the middle of the road until the cars coming have no choice but to stop so he can keep going. This however, let's the rest of the cars on that perpendicular street to enter as well since the oncoming traffic had to stop for that first car. You then have to slowly force your way into that perpendicular traffic so they can stop and the other traffic moves. It's like ordered chaos.
Beware out there for some of these foreign guys who are trying to look for a Filipina in the thought of just to have a permanent residency in the future & able to live & stay in the Philippines. If you are into foreign guys at least look for the high value men w/ morals.😅

The last interviewee topic was so interesting though. I like to hear the comments of other filipinos on this. Coz for me I know some of the rules are very illogical... As long as i am aware that these rules are rediculous, that is fine with me. But what i don't like about it is the people just keep following these rules without even knowing that they are being scammed or something like that.
It is not my job to debate the rules. We have senators and congressmen to do that. As citizens, your job is to follow the rules. If you don't like the rule, just let the votes do the talking. You can whine and karen about the rules all day.. nothing will change.. you will just stress yourself and get wrinkles.
To the Ukrainian woman on the last interview, even I, as a Filipino, admit it's hard to accept that facemask protocol before, but I tell myself that this thing is for my safety and the safety of everyone. The government of the Philippines really works hard to work out the best policy to keep people safe from coronaviruses. and now we've surpassed the danger of the Corona virus. Ask yourself now: Why are you still alive now? That's just because of the good government's COVID-19 policy that made you angry before.
In fairness to her, i don't think she was angry of the covid protocol...she said that she was surprise that the locals just follow rules without understanding the logic of the rule...she said you should follow government rules but understand why and know the logic about the rule...that's what she was pointing out...😎

I am actually surprised at what Alona said about some Filipinos not liking money. Though I know some Filipinos would help for free, if there was a service rendered they expect to be paid. What is possibly true is there's no fixed rate. Like if a plumber fixes a leaky faucet, then after he is done I ask him how much? He would most likely say "ikaw na bahala sir" ( it is upto you) instead of giving me a flat rate.

Being a Filipino with our lazy stuff it's about the heat and humidity, and hurrying stuff or being angry is crap like doing that is crap in brownout situations, it just make things worse so we just take it way easy... now humidity and the heat's getting worse with more and more cases of people couldn't take it anymore, just glad these guys seem to not too much bothered with it at all
As as Filipino, and in general we show respect to our guest in our home, esp the foreigner who were guest in our home country. No, for me the very fact that Filipinos can speak English puts them above the countries in that region than can't, simple as that. Remember Tagalog isn't the universal Language of the Philippines, it's just the National language. You only have to go to the second City, Cebu. They don't naturally speak Tagalog.

To be honest, your content is quite a good topic but as a Filipino myself, I can say that you don't have integrity and acting like a scammer. You clearly said that "you'll going to put his channel in the description" but you didn't. Unless you've paid them for their time accommodating you, your act like you've got a million subscribers and they should be happy by getting exposure to your channel.

You're getting better at your interviews, but just relax and always ask the person how they doing first, then thank them for their time, then ask questions, then thank them again at the end of the interview. You should really ask them why they came or what brought them to the Philippines, make them open up and feel important then they'll tell you more about themselves. You have really good content here and often you have perfect nice guests, but I just wish you asked better questions. Pay attention to what they say, like when the Indian gentleman told you he was living there since he was born, then you ask him about getting culture shock 😅All in all, still a good interview. @@simplestreetinterview actually there is a lot of us doing the same thing, I felt like the majority of people is in our side, but some are forced to do it, so they just do what they're told. In my case all the senior staff in my company would have walked out the job if they forced us to get a jab and masked. So the company backed off. We fought back against the system, we had rally and demonstrations against the government, we boycotted businesses who discriminated us, we had apps, websites and support systems, it was a battle and we won! 😆 we had lawyers, doctors, politicians, police and some army in our side. We take pride and take freedom here very seriously. That's why we could never understand why you put a mask on without questioning like what the Ukrainian lady says. Believe me we have stats on everything from people dying every year worldwide before covid era, to during covid era. We even had every cause of death category. Basically when you have access of information you become very inform and you start questioning. I can tell you so much about it and what really was the purpose of the jab, but I'll be writing all day lol 😆

Here in England, there are some areas or places that are Rundown (but in a different way)...you haven't seen it or you haven't discovered it...Poor people their Gov't. help them out (especially if you don't have a job or a home)...& same with other countries (have their impoverished areas (slums) too...
I love the last commenter esp. on her stance about Filipinos following the rules. She just described what Filipino sheeples are. I and my friends were just talking about the issue of those poisonous injectables from WHO & SIM registrations, and what we hate most are Filipinos following these crooked rules. Filipinos blindly love their leaders so much that even if the rules are hurtful to them and their families, they still follow. Filipinos, including their leaders, are trained to be obedient. Do not question anything, just be obedient. We have senators and congressmen passing laws that they haven't read the details, just because the UN/WHO wrote it for them and they think UN/WHO is their leader. Filipinos will easily give up their sovereignty. ADVERTISING: If there are powers-that-be interested to find slaves, come to PH. Filipinos are regimented; they are trained to be fools. Perfect populace for a totalitarian dystopia. It's really genetic more than anything. No amount of education, talk, or pointing people towards the truth will ever change that. I mean, look, you never saw a single protest-- not a SINGLE ONE-- come out of them in response to the egregious lockdowns or jab mandates. That tells you everything about how hopeless the situation is.
The last time I checked, the Philippines is not North Korea. We've been abused by the Spaniards, Americans and Japanese so it takes a lot of time to heal from those generational trauma.

You just never know how it means to us who've been gritting with annoyance & hate over these irrationally obedient Filipinos. I do not mind obedience, as long as it's good for the populace & it creates some form of unity towards a goal, such as the trait of Bayanihan. As a staunch & faithful Catholic, being one in worshiping God during the Holy Mass is commendable as we all process towards the kingdom of God. When the bishop calls to pray as one for a specific intention, isn't it what God wants us? To be one, to be united? They wore masks to minimize exposure, as some customers were carriers of the virus. However, it's logical to take it off when you're about to eat. How can you eat while wearing a mask? There are some differences between shorter and longer periods of contact with an infected person. There's this 15-minute rule. Conventional wisdom holds that you are at risk after 15 minutes of close contact with an infectious person. But even a brief exposure is of course no guarantee. A distance of 6 feet is also considered here as a precaution.
Masks are overrated, if you can smell your fart while wearing mask then your mask is useless. I work every day right thru the pandemic, I was in close contact with hundreds of people every day, I didn't get vaccinated, not once and I never wore the mask 95% of the time while going about my business. Many people I know that did the same, some doctors themselves at least 5 I know personally, some police, businessmen, and woman, pretty much from all walks of life, none I know died or got really sick.. Listen to that Ukraining lady, she makes a lot of sense..

When you ask foreigners who have visited the provinces outside Manila, you can hear what they trully experience in the Philippines. Manila is not very different from the metropolis they came from.

THAT IS JUST HOW WE ARE, AND THE CULTURE BEING AROUND THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY, MAKES HOSPITABILITY EVEN BETTER. beaches are just the 2nd best thing hehehehe..
