During my vacation in Bohol, when I applied for my SSS ID at a local government office, the Staff gave prompt attention and even asked me to be served first than other younger applicants. I'm still back in the US enjoying my retirement since when I was 60 years old traveling to Europe and Middle Eastern countries 5 times a year. Volunteerism is very much alive in the Philippines. Let's remember the Bayanihan Spirit way back in history. Maybe there is no such thing as a website where you can go and volunteer. However, your next neighbor is always your helping hand and they will help you regardless of the time of the day!. They are always happy to help with a beaming smile in their faces. It's their pride to help people who are in need and stand by you till things get done or ask a friend for assistance. Filipinos are profound people most especially in the Bayanihan Spirit!!

Not true... very rare will you find a Filipino organised Volunteer Foundation. 9 out 10 they are either organised by Foreigners OR by Politicians who wants their names on the Foundations labels. I have seen a lot of individual Filipinos who tries to organise clean up day and no one turned up, yet when a Foreigner organises the clean-up you see foreigner and Filipinos alike turn up.... Anyway, the guy wasn't talking about Philippines as a whole, he was referring to Dumaguete.

I think he means organised volunteerism is not actively promoted in the Philippines. I want to say that in the West, it’s not really voluntary volunteerism. In the Philippines, if one is so exposed to the local culture in towns and barrios, you will see real volunteerism. Fellow townsfolk will go to the house of the bereaved and volunteer their help. In schools, parents volunteer to get involved in school activities or donate in school needs. I don’t understand his comments as I have learned since young that Filipinos are known for their supportive spirit.

Great interview. Seems like a really nice guy. Great insight into Dumaguete. Shame about his daughter rejecting his new life and second family when her dad is clearly super happy. My guess would be she cares more about her inheritance than her dad’s happiness.

I love the United States but it is not how it once was. It is so divided politically…parents don’t talk to children, brothers don’t talk to sisters. Neighbors not to others. You have to be careful talking to strangers because you can be accused of being racist sexist or you may be charged with sexual harassment. SAD REALLY VERY SAD ‼️🥺🥺🥺🥺

The elders are respected so much in the Philippines that there is a separate lane in the supermarkets or pharmacies for them. They can get discounts too. Just show your senior citizen ID. Btw, the people in Manila or Cebu are Filipinos too and they share the same values as the other Filipinos. So in road accidents, the people in Manila or Cebu act just like the people in Dumaguete.

This is a great interview. He is spot on about barangay mediation. I just thought about the barangay arrangement. That is true! Instead of immediately seeking an attorney, we try to resolve issues first in the barangay. So, that's actually a good thing. However, the aspect I don't agree with is the notion that it's different in Manila or Cebu. I hope people stop stereotyping because the truth is, we are all Filipinos and share the same values no matter where we are. But just like in a family, there's always a black sheep.

From what I've seen... Road rage from other countries are far more crazier than what I've seen here... My father for example is a very temperamental person but he drives by the rule of if it's done it's done... No need to escalate especially if there was no damage. He cusses them out tho lol

Online probably social media Have a stable income like he said an average/minimum of 2000usd or more (inflation) Choose a second tier cities because it is less polluted and traffic, safer, cheap, secondary level hospitals and well-known universities. If you prefer cities I don't see any problem as long as you are willing to take the good with the bad. With that amount you can pay the house, groceries, gas, car, luxuries and even a housemaid. In looking for a wife look for traditionally/conservatively raised that knows how to cook, clean and raise children. DON'T flaunt your wealth. Always stick to your budget and make it clear to your wife and family in laws (expect the parents, siblings and their children to always seek for your help regarding financial problems) help them but set limitations because they will rely on you all the time. Lastly, don't be so naive if you see red flags, let go. Don't be a victim. Be safe and healthy. 👍 Go for it! 🇵🇭
