805Bruin yep same here. You kinda adapt to it. But then again I’m half Filipino so it kinda makes my accent even more Pinoy that sometimes people speak Tagalog and didn’t know I’m foreigner lol which is good because I don’t like to be looked at

It is the idea, that the local accent will be more understood. I do that with French speakers, when I speak to them in English with a French accent.

no hahaha. I can speak Tagalog. Minsan kase na coconscious ako pag nagsasalita mga foreigners nang tagalog na mas magaling pa kesa sa akin and the way sila magsalita and lessened yung “yung” which I for one always use 100% 😅😫

I’m an asian who grew up in the States and only spoke English. I went to the Philippines with my white friend and we both learned Tagalog together. Our Tagalog was not that good, but everyone there reacted to his Tagalog with a “Wow, your Tagalog is good”, whereas the reaction to my more fluent Tagalog was “Why is your Tagalog so bad?” Why does the world put the white man on a pedestal while they treat us like we don’t deserve their respect.
