I never appreciated the superhuman efforts of Smokin Joe to until of late Thank God for Queensberry rules, otherwise Joe would’ve crawled off the floor after 20 knockdowns in the 25th round to bash George with everything he had. 😂
What a wonderful man George Foreman is. He didn't even want to talk about his sensational victory over Joe Frazier he bought the conversation back to the sad passing of a true legend. George, you are in the same class my friend, you two are a great legend.
George is right! If King Kong showed up, Joe would probably say "wtf do you want?" The one punch Ali was most vulnerable to was the left hook. Long before Joe knocked Ali down, he had Ali reeling from left hooks. Almost knocked him down another time, wobbling him badly with another left hook. If you watch the later rounds of their fight, the right side of Ali's jaw is badly swollen, way out of proportion to his left side. I may be in the minority, but I think Ali would've lost the first fight to Frazier, even if they fought in 1968. The USA will probably never again rule Olympic boxing like they did the LHW/HW division from 1960-1972. First Ali in 1960, Frazier in 1964, and Foreman in 1968. First class fighters and human beings, to the end.....
@@Christopher-side_dude-Murican I honestly think Joe Frazier might be the only one to be able to beat a prime Ali. Joe Frazier was in fact blind in his left eye at that point. To me that's a better excuse than whatever Muhammad Ali had.
The thing I really respect about George in this interview was the interviewer tried to pivot a little bit onto that moment where George beat Fraiser, and George pivoted right back onto Fraziers passing, not trying to put glory on himself. Such a charismatic, humble move.
You gotta love George Foreman. I love hearing about how close these guys were. It just goes to show, never believe all the hype. These guys "were" the sport of boxing for many years.
@@augustineriley5582 ali losing to frazier, holmes & more makes ur claim false of ali being the goat. Ali ducked foreman rematch. Tyson fury would beat ali
@@Brock-Lesnar-WWE Your using the outdated triangle model pal, - how old are you btw? And whilst I'm a big Fury fan, born and raised just the road from him, know some of his relatives, - we'll never know, - makes for a reat fantasy fight, but your rationale is flawed. Also seems like your a kid to me, using the "Mayweather" no loss model? If that's the case then it follows Marciano would be the HW GOAT, 49 fights 49 victories! And just to further your fledgling education, and obvious gaps in boxing history, Ali himself when asked about facing Marciano (at their peaks of course) admitted, "I barely got past Frazier twice, and I think Rocky would have been tougher, I would have hit the floor, but who knows?" Re the Holmes loss? you really spacing now ace, it was a shell of Ali who only fought for the 10,000,000 notes he got, - (which was a LOT then) he was advised against the fight, - but as he said. "A dead man man would get out of his coffin for ten million". Advice kid, check out the pre Ali era, E Charles, Archie the Mongoose Moore, Liston etc!!! Better still go back to J Johnson etc. then GROW UP! or least expand your limited understanding and obvious naive speculations. Adios pal. PS Foreman DIDN'T want a rematch with Ali, get real kiddo. And Ali didn't need it.
Foreman came from the toughest era of the heavyweight division. He was truly a gift to the sport. One of the most powerful punches ever in boxing and made a great comeback from retirement.
@@lwmson Serious, all those fights with Frazier v Ali went the distance. All those fights were wars. Frazier was probably ahead on points in the trilogy in Manila. Ali got caught with some awesome punches. So in my view Frazier is equal or better than Ali. It was his two losses to Foreman, that hurt his legacy. But when Frazier & Foreman crossed paths, the conditioning of Frazier was not optimum. Therefore paid for it badly. But as Foreman says they didn’t stop Frazier.
@@clevelandwilliams5922 No way was Frazier equal to or better than Ali and Joe was NOT ahead of Ali on points by the end of the Manila fight. Ali had a commanding lead on Joe going into the final round and it was reflected on all three of the judges' scorecards. Joe did dominate the middle rounds of the fight, but Ali had beaten Joe to a pulp by the 14th, which was why Futch wisely ended the bout. Joe was a great champion and one of the toughest fighters of all time, but his problem was that his style of fighting made him too vulnerable. That "take some to give some" style of his worked on many fighters, but it was suicidal against a tremendous slugger like Foreman, and it also caught up with him against a boxing technician like Ali.
George Forman, the gentleman, of boxing. I have so much respect for this man, even though we're years apart. He is a true class act, very hard tough man inside and out. If the world were more like him, we as people would have no problems.
George is so lovely and understated - "It was ROUGH on me." ROUGH = " AH wuz DESTROYED." But George would never say it. You have a Beautiful Heart and beautiful Mind George Foreman. Thank you George for your Human heart. God bless you. MozzfromOZ.
These guys are the absolute giants of the sport and more importantly giants in our culture...Big George is just the pinnacle of what a champ should be...Smokin Joe stole America's heart as well....The best of the best, in an era of great men in the ring.....Glad I lived to see it...
@Atrisk351 Little known fact is that Ali actually won almost all the rounds including most of the early rounds when Forman was still fresh. Ali would beat Forman no matter what man
I think George is fooling himself. Ask Joe's son or Joe's brother about how Joe felt towards Ali. Smokin' Joe had no use for Muhammad and that's putting it politely.
Joe Frazier leant Ali money when he was banned from boxing. I'm sure their relationship was complicated but I think Joe genuinely loved (and hated) Ali like a brother.
They had a love-hate relationship. At the end though, Ali and Frazier made up and become somewhat friends again. Any other animosity coming from Joe most likely was the bitterness that sometimes comes with age.
Frazier Foreman Ali Kenny Norton Ron Lyle Earnie Shavers ….. beat fights ever… when the best of the best fought all the time …. Greatest era of boxing in the heavyweight division anyways
ALI'S ONLY REASON FOR TAUNTING AND BELITTLING FRAZIER WAS SIMPLY TO SELL FIGHTS,....HE WAS A FIGHT PROMOTERS DREAM PURE AND SIMPLE A TRUE SHOWMAN AS WELL AS A GIFTED FIGHTER,....ALI (F-ING) WITH FRAZIER ...." WHEN I GET THROUGH WITH YOU,...I'M GONNA DIP YOUR FACE IN BATTER AND MAKE GORILLA COOKIES OUTTA YOU".......ALI HAD SUCH A GIFT FOR COMEDY AND KNEW HOW TO STIR UP THE CROWD....HOW CAN YOU NOT WANNA SEE HIS FIGHTS.
George Foreman would never have been able to do that to an earlier version of Mike Tyson? The earlier version of Mike Tyson was offered millions of dollars to fight George Foreman as an old man, and Tyson wanted no part of it. When Don King kept pressing him to take the deal, saying it would be an easy flight, Tyson snapped and said there's no way he's getting in the ring with that f****** animal. If you want the fight, you fight him yourself.
@ben1ben2ben1 umm no LIKE I SAID he was angrey wen a persons angrey they dont think straight even said by Foreman that he just wanted to kill him didnt take precaution no nothing and he admited if he took it more srsly and not angrily it would of been different
lol well its nuthn worth gettn angry over man,you could be right i could be right you could be wrong or i could be dead wrong myself.but all i was goin by is what i was taught and my basicknowledge.only an opinion. peace brother.
Ali, Smoking Joe, Big George... Consecutive Gold Medal Winners, then all Heavyweight Champs, fighting wars against rach other. That was truly the golden age of boxing. Damn glad I lived through it.
me too….those were the days when they could talk up an upcoming fight and everyone and i mean EVERYONE was wound up for it from cab drivers to politicians…almost carried the same weight as going to the moon…seriously you had to live in that time…when you hear about a so called fight today….it’s like..who???…or more like ..who cares
Funny how George Foreman, Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes fought in the 60's,70's, 80's and 90's are still Multi-Millionaires and Holyfield and Tyson are damn near Broke.
George Foreman is a gent. His respect for Joe is mirrored, in other words, he gives respect and it returns to him. A nice guy, who could knock your block off.
super nice. who knew the hardest punchers in the world would be so nice, well-spoken and have respect for everyone around them Foreman, Shavers, Ali, Fraizer are true gentlemen
Big George Foreman I remember the first time I saw George Foreman didn't know who he was ,He was going up against Joe Frazier My father and my two brothers we said, well Joe Frazier probably knocked this guy out in the second round we turned our backs to get some refreshments when we turned around again Frazier was on the canvas . We could not believe our eyes and then there were five more knockdowns by George Foreman. I will never forget those times in the '70s. I love George Foreman I love all the fighters at that time George is a great man a great champion. He speaks so highly of Joe Frazier and I love that. God bless George Foreman thank you champion for being such a great man.
Joe Frazier a god of boxing we have to use his life to inspire us on achieving r goals in life. We must put ourselves in his shoes if we were born in poverty in a farm in south Carolina could we be as great as Joe to steer r way to champion Joe is incredible human being as well as kind and humble
