Nobody tells these Cloughie stories better than big Mark and his impressions are superb. Could listen to the big man all day. Cloughie was a total one off but his record speaks for itself. And Mark was a very fine goalkeeper in his day. 👏👏
@@pkune5158 Do you feel good chipping in with a swipe about alcohol? You obviously don't have the intelligence to understand the complexities of alcoholism. I hope you feel like a proper big man. Pat in the back for you.
The best manager the UK has ever produced full stop. I am a life long Wolves fan and how I wish we'd had the privilege of him managing us. RIP Mr. Clough.
Brian Clough was a legend, but what a character Mark Crossley is. He was a great goalkeeper, and as a die hard Forest fan I think he was the second best keeper we ever had after Peter Shilton. He made some bloopers but oh my word, did he pull off some absolute world-class saves against some phenomenal opposition.
I have zero interest in football (loved it when I was 8, had trophies and all that crap) but absolutely love Brian Clough - a real human being - this was amazing. Mark Crossley missed his calling as an impressionist, what a champ! This was a right laugh from start to finish, an absolute joy.
Whenever I saw Brian Clough on tv, I was always impressed by his obvious intelligence and honesty. This is the first time I have heard anyone else talk about him. Thank you. Great stories.
@@natureisallpowerful there was no 7.45 kicks offs then on a saturday night they are all made up Dean Saunders tells 1 and Alan Hill as publicly slammed him for it and said none of it happened it was at Alan Hills house Clough was stone cold sober and dressed in a suit and the funny bits Saunders said Hill said never happened I watched Jan Molby speaking at some cricket club on youtube he told the exact same to word stories about Ian Rush id already seen Neil Razor Ruddock tell about Jason Mcateer the cut my pizza in 4 cos I won't ever eat 8 and I best buy 2 bags of ice in case in 1 melts now I don't believe any of them said that but obviously Rush and Mcateer obviously never both said it but according to Molby and Ruddock they did
Wolves fan. Totally love this. We had some great men in the east and west midlands back then. Have lots of respect for Foest, Derby, Leicester, Stoke, Brum, Albion etc. We've all sufferered the championship for far too long whilst London and the North West have had all the money and the glory.
Clough was a genius with human relationships …that unique blend of humour authority and mystique which can get people to do what they wouldn’t normally do ….always sensing what was the approach which would get results .( I only experienced this magic once in my working life ) What a tragedy the drink got him in the end …..nice if we could still be feeding from his wisdom
I love Mark Crossley reminiscing about these great Cloughie stories. Cloughies goal scoring record as a player was exceptional, but to win two league titles and then two European cups with unfashionable teams is an incredible achievement which will never be challenged. Nothing but ultimate respect for Brian Clough, a true original, a one off character………..I’m a Chelsea fan by the way for the past 55 years.
@@BazzerObama Obviously I thought you were talking about Nottingham (not Notts Forest)only! p.s. Dave McKay won the league with Derby as well! Clough compared to Ferguson is a farce!
@@garymacdonald7165 you havin a laugh?? Clough was a better man manager than Ferguson could only dream of and he did it on the quarter of the budget its Like Fergie taking a club like Plymouth, winning the league then winning the league Cup 4 times, the CL 2, Simod/ZDS 2 and the European super cup 1. On a shoestring budget. Fergie wouldn't have had a clue where to start. Plus I bet you don't even go to OT just another bandwagon supporter following the glory 🔴🌳
Hi Mark a absolutely brilliant summing up of Brian Clough probably had no coaching certificates born winner I'm glad you made the grade it must have been meant for you Thanks
Made up Forrest are back in top flight, one of the great English sides, Mark Crossley was a really good goalie from what I remember.. Cloughie proper legend
I played golf in Portugal some years back and sat near some gentlemen of an older age.......I was by my self and could here what they were talking about-their days when they played football with 'Alex Ferguson' I could of sat there all night listening to them, shame I didn't get chance to buy them a drink as my lift turned up. Great stories from videos such as this.
haha top stories. i like crossley, he was born 10 miles from where i live and his penalty save record has got to be the best of any keeper in history. he even saved a matt le tissier penalty, nobody else ever did.
Those were wonderful stories. I only have to hear "Now then young man" and I'm in stitches already. Growing up in Ireland I was a Man Utd fan since I was 6 years old in 1968 because of George Best and my friends were all fans of Arsenal, West Ham, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea but the Forest team of the late 70s became everybody's second favourite team. I still hope for the days when they will be challenging for the Premier League title again. Winning two European Cups, what an achievement. Cloughie was a once-off, for sure. Imagine calling a 19-year-old player "Shithouse" today, and the £50 fine! Sports psychologists wouldn't know where to start with that one!
If anyone here hasn’t listened to the Dean Saunders story about how Brian Clough signed him up then you’re missing a gem. I couldn’t breathe through laughing…cloughie was a comedy genius!!
Forest back in the big time....not even a fan but I'm delighted.... fantastic fans.like the bloke above said....they need to bring out the two European cups with the Clough family front and center
Absolutely love these Cloughie stories and Crossley is brilliant at telling them , was fortunate enough to have the great man see me play in a friendly for King's Lynn against Forest back in 89 and just knowing he was sat in the stands was spine tingling for me as a Forest fan. John Sheridan played in that game , don't think he made another appearance for us. Forest won 5-0 , Lee Chapman hat-trick. Was something to do with Steve Sutton's testimonial year i think.
Thanks James…. so many people to talk to, so little time! Don’t forget to subscribe to the channel for free, to see more videos from the past and future come up on your RU-vid feed. Cheers!!
Man cloughie was a one off a maverick. Know wonder he never got the england job can you imagine Bert mills hip,ted Crocker old fogies of the FA. Top man mark crossly and I am old enough to remember he very well.well done
Bless you Mark ...I saw you play against us (Tottenham) several times....Just great to hear stories from the inside of the only manager I rate above the awful man that is |Fergie.
Great interview, telling it as it is, non of this bloody pc crap. Quite appropriate, one of my best mates played under Cloughie at Derby, so I’ve had a few insights & amusing anecdotes. What Ricky did say is that Taylor was the real football brains behind their success but Cloughie cud man manage. But, boy, was he a character. unforgettable and not a nasty man, from the stories I’ve been told he enjoyed the banter and he had to be his way. Pity there aren’t more individuals like him this is the age of zero Charisma, he definitely had it. I loved the story of Wee Archie running the line, i came close to playing alongside him when he was at St Mirren, I played for a provincial club & they were approached by a scout for St Mirren to see if they wud release me for trials with them but the club wouldn’t agree. That’s another side of football I’m afraid. The club was approached by scouts from other senior clubs in Scotland & also Woolwich Arsenal & Millwall. But we’re intent on keeping a hold of me. I was a goalkeeper. Loved the Goalkeeping, still do.
Brian Clough said something like he was "the shop window" and Peter Taylor was "the goods in the back". These days managers/head coaches have media training hence the lack of memorable quotes from press conferences. He did make some errors in signing players, notably Justin Fashanu but so does every manager.
Brian Clough had more personality in his index finger than most of us have in our whole body. What a man. I do wonder though why he became an alcoholic
Hi , ive just watched this , Great vlog really funny , by the way im a life long Ram , 62 years , i can remember Cluffy coming to Derby , , The Very Best , him and Peter Taylor , S...t....e Crossley Great keeper for a red . Tim
Mark's nickname amongst us Forest fans was 'Big Norm' - due to his supposed resemblance to Norman Whiteside - the Manchester United legend. Note that I said 'supposed'......
I encountered Mr Clough a few times in the Main Stand car park whilst I was queuing for tickets with my mates. He always acknowledged us and asked if we were looking forward to the game and referred to us as 'good lads'.
I'm a derby lad, but i must admit crossley has me in stitches with the accent and stories, im guessing the pitches he played at were the racecourse in Derby
Cloughie was an absolute genius. Could you imagine todays' EPL players having contact negotiations like that? Football was great in those days, they had loyalty and played for the jersey not for the highest bidder where the team, the club and its history meant nothing to them. There's over 120 players 'earning' in excess of £100k every week, many of them pretty ordinary, I would have to work my butt off for best part of 5 years for even what the 'lowest paid' of those get in a week.
Best Manager England never had. I can only wonder if he'd been around in this era (probably being fined for being unique) Its strange how he stands tall in my childhood memories.
