This is one of the most promising proofs of concept I have ever seen. Yes, it is VERY rough around the edges, but there is an incredible game buried in the jank. If it realizes even half of its potential, they will have something very special here.
That "promisse of potential" that is NEVER achieved in every other EA that comes out is how they get you. It's just another beautiful game that plays like crap.
Cyberpunk was not this bad, at least not on PC. I can't speak as to console release. That said, this is a true early access, and not the standard AAA "Here's a week of early access for preordering, nothing will change"
@@emoment1088 cyberpunk was honestly worse Bro. And yes on PC. The enemy ai would despawn and respawn behind you when you didn't look directly at them it was like a sick joke
@emoment1088 The cops had bad spawn problems when the game came out. They'd come out of nowhere. I never really saw that problem tho since I never fought the cops. The normal enemies didn't ever really have the problem, atleast not in a big way
Dev's didn't cave to the community. It was a deliberate decision to grab more EA funding. The whole "we've released due to overwhelming amount of requests" is a basic ploy to deflect criticism and shift blame.
I would disagree their discord is very active and very loud when it comes to how much they want this game. It also got them funding which I'm happy for they need it so they can make this game even better.
@@brandonwarner8442 it's fucking great. There are like 120+ people in voice chat right now. I grabbed a group myself and did pretty well. It's potential moving forwards is gonna be huge
@@brandonwarner8442 How much people are in Discord vs. the Steam playerbase? Sure, people on Discord, the very biggest fans may support them, but they're the drop in the ocean of the other potential revenue streams. And they also may give as skewed and biased feedback. Glossing over the problems and praising the things that would negatively impact the opinions of the non-fans. Anyway - it's still not a valid excuse. A dev is responsible for their game's reputation in the end. If the're so spineless they are willing to follow the will of the superfans on Discord to the detriment of their reputation - they deserve all the negativity. But again - it's much more probable that they were hurting for the additional funding and used the line as an excuse for the state of the game that's bad even for today's EA standards.
@@Kia044 It's not really being used as an excuse, it's being used to explain why the game is so broken and unpolished. Sure, it could be better, but the Forever Winter is not finished, nowhere near that state. Yes, they used it for funding, but why is that a bad thing? More funding means more budget to work on the game, and this allows them to get feedback from the community, effectively creating a large QA team. If you have a problem with the state of the game, don't buy it, simple as that. I gladly purchased the game as soon as I possibly could so I could support the dev team and help with feedback about the game's systems(as someone who has developed software in the past, multiple perspectives is a godsend). TL;DR The game is far from finished, and if you don't like the state of the game, wait until it's closer to complete. Stop being so cynical.
God it looks so good, I hope in a year or two it's a certified banger - cause being the little guy in the middle of an apocalyptic mech war sounds so insanely fucking cool
Saying: "We died with no mistake made on our part." while dumping entire mags and pulling agro of the entire map, is peak comedy to me. As a guideline to follow: If you had to shoot at something you made a mistake.
or at least shoot at something you KNEW you couldn't kill quickly without silenced weapons and knowledge of surrounding enemies. I've gone aggro a LOT, but only when I have enough info to not get swarmed or the jump pack to get the hell out once the swarm does show up
Listen, I'm with you, but I dont believe he's hating here. Maybe it's his playstyle, and maybe it doesnt work as well, but it might be fun! He seems optimistic about the vision. Don't feed the hate, I wanna see this be a community of positivity is all :) Much love scav.
@@sabbathguy1 not for me personally, but sure looks like it in the video. May have to do scaling difficulty with the number of players? Tbh idk what truly sets them off. Feels like a mixture of stuff.
@sabbathguy1 seemed like it for them, but didn't always happen to me. They have a lot of different ans unknown triggers which the developers said they don't want to spoil. Not a fan of them either, unless the triggers are mostly staying in the map for too long
It's only in early access cuz the fans asked for it. What other dev would do that? This game has been so addicting. I'm already pushing 20 hours and I just want more and more. Saying there's no progression is bs from a new player that doesn't know the game yet
I'm in the same boat, I'm loving it and it runs like ass on my PC (woefully under spec). I have been waiting for something like this and can't get enough!
There is a lot of progression there just really isn't a laid out pathway to explain how you should progress. Like an NPC character walking you through the basic ideas like most games do. I love it.
I prefer a buggy mess with a little lack of direction but with a really good base concept/foundation, over a perfectly polished soulless generic game tbh
Fuckin eh right, I remember seeing Star Citizen and thinking "It's gonna be ten years to make this game. Godspeed." When I see an original idea that I identify with as hard as this, I don't let it go, this is the sickest thing I've seen since Tarkov only had one map
Everyone is forgetting what "early access" means for a game. Don't listen to these youtubers or scoring rats. They added this game into EA for the fans who demanded it and the hype it got which resulted for its EA release. This game needs feedback on all the things holding it back and they are getting it by people who understand why this game was put into EA rather than waiting for a release fully.
@alexubel They specifically released it as **early access** (NOT released as a full game) because the community requested it so much, which now they are using to get feedback to improve the game.
... Isn't that EXACTLY what he says when he says it's in early access? He SPECIFICALLY clarifies that this is the exact kind of EA game that you're talking about and not some extremely polished game that will even re-release and generate more hype. Did you watch even the first 4 minutes of the video?
@@Iceman154435 I watched the entire video. Who said i was referring to this video? I stated everyone forgetting the meaning for EA. As noted from a lot of the community who picks this game up.
As someone who has near 23 hours in it, I'm having a BLAST. Jank is something to get used to and mechanics and spawns are to be improved. The sky is the limit and by god I'm gonna be watching it up close every step and wipe along the way. Enemies are threats and even with a group of 3 or 4 dudes, things are tense and can go to hell at the drop of an "HUNTER KILLERS ARE ON YOUR TAIL" message because someone decided to grab every water they could see. It's gonna be a hell of a ride.
My recommendation for solo players is to take it slow. Observe and sneak, your're playing a stealth game first shooter second. Get what you need and get out.
I always find myself running to Harvester mommy for uppies. I can't stop playing this game. My biggest frustration is the movement mechanics in their current state.
Yea character acceleration seems to be the only way weight can affect the player, but with enough practice you can get pretty decent at it. Although I often favor the jump pack so that helps with a lot of those issues. They really need to just tighten up on different surfaces and have many of them just slow you down rather than a full stop like it is a lot of the time.
My friends and I are absolutely LOVING this game. I'm almost 20 hours in and most of my experience has been smooth. The game is actually in a much better state than I expected given how critical many videos and comments are. Are there bugs and flaws? Tons of them! Do they ruin the experience? No. Especially not if you actually focus on the good and don't just nitpick every little problem. If you are on the fence and you are willing to play with an open mind and looking for solutions rather than problems, I absolutely recommend playing. First game I have binged for 5+ hours at a time in probably over a decade.
I was lucky enough to have a friend who plays a lot of extraction shooter jump on this game with me (I have barely played a little of Hunt showdown and thats it). He showed me early on to explore the menus and customise your weapons, biggest of all get a silencer. Now the game has plenty of bugs with mechanics and AI, but a lot of people who are jumping on for an afternoon to make reviews of the game really aren't finding all the tools the game provides for you to do better. Nor do they have the patience to learn, or wait, for opportunities.
@@generaljedi8691 Absolutely. The sad part is I don't even think it takes long to get past the initial difficulty. A couple hours of gameplay and your confidence starts growing in a very rewarding way. I think a lot of people are anxious to jump on the hype if it benefits the game and community or not.
@@802Garage Honestly its just learning the maps. I can already grind the first map for resources when I need them and I honestly fine with learning the enemies and mechanics through trial and error, that's what this game is supposed to be. I dont really need a longer tutorial even when the game gets closer to release.
If it makes you feel any better, they touched up the HK system literally last night and it's not NEARLY as sensitive anymore. You can actually do things without pulling HK's every 30 seconds now. And the minefield thing is edge of map. lol
@@Kholaslittlespot1 big updates this year, server meshing is almost in and getting public tests now, but the jank is still there all time. really enjoying it tho
Remember they pushed their Early Access even earlier due to popular demand. 100% buy it if you want to support the devs and try it out DO NOT buy it if you are expecting a finished product with polishing, this is VERY EARLY and they have stated that
It amazes me to see the amount of people who think this is the full, finished product and not the earliest stages of an alpha build for the purposes of getting as much bug feedback as possible. Anyone complaining about the water system is illiterate or hasn't joined the discord, or else they would know it was never a permanent mechanic and is only there to serve as testing for wipes.
I honestly think ppl are overreacting on the water system. You only lose 1 water barrel a day and it holds almost 2 months worth not being upgraded. If you play long enough you can literally get 1 month of water so quickly within a 2hr session. And if you aren't playing for 1 month then you lose your stuff. But if you haven't played that long anyways you probably didn't like the game that much and you won't care if you lose your stuff in the 1st place or are just waiting for more updates. And if your waiting for updates you probably only played for a couple hrs anyways so you didn't lose a lot. The game is pretty awesome. But yes it does need updates on spawns, AI, optimization, etc.
I think that fundamentally the idea of players being punished for not playing the game instead of rewarded for playing it is a bit backwards. They could instead make it that a high level of water supply would create discounts in shops or something. On its own I like the idea of locking certain functions behind the water level at the base tho.
"barely playable frame rate" 60fps for the bare minimum isn't unplayable xD god forbid youtubers forced to play at 80 fps they go on a rant about it being unplayable, this is the 1 game that actually tells you what the bare minimum is tbh.
19.5 hours on the game keep in mind, it's just players crying about the water real timer and the "Ai being shit" ignore them and you'll understand. The games beautiful and don't blame others when you go out of your way to jump over the map trying to break the game.
The pristiging not making sense? brother it's exactly how pritiging works xD everything is reset and the exp cap goes higher and you need to be pristige 8 to10 to max the skills but if you max pristige you get so much more health and carry weight. it's simple af a gold fish could understand, i feel like you're going on the route of IGN and not even trying to explain it, i've clearly had more time then you and what you're saying is you don't understand even the simple things.
These guys put the game out early to build it with its fans not find a new audience. They didn’t put it out as a ploy to make more sales. The developers have been honest from the getgo and haven’t been pandering to people that astray from their vision they’ve already put out their first hot fix, they’ve even said they’ll adjust the water mechanic even though you can stock up enough to go without playing the game for nearly 2 months.
You can actually stockpile more than that, by just leaving it in the stash. You can have almost 3 months worth of water and pretty much an infinite amount in the stash. People complaining about this mechanic haven’t played the game.
Yeah, I honestly dont get how much people are shilling the EA as a scam and it came out too early after their launch trailer being on an almost personal level and explaining what their intentions with this game is.
We knew this game was early access and fun dog have been transparent about nearly every aspect of development leading up to it. Less than 48 hours into release and they already had 2 hotfixes to address major issues/bugs from player feedback. This game has an incredible baseline with a team that seems dedicated to making it what the community wants it to be.
It may be janky as hell, but them releasing an early access version does allow plenty feedback from the players, which is a very good thing, no matter what. I mean look at Ultrakill for example, it's been in early access for a while, and it has improved massively in the 2 years it's been in early access so far.
Dude, I am LOVING the atmosphere, the sounds, and the brutality. Having a ton of fun but God damn there are some goofy bugs lol. My buddy hopped on top of a corpse tank that was stuck on a wall and it rotated it's turret to aim at him and it just yeeted itself into the sky. My buddy went flying and his body just phased through the map when he came back down. Was also doing a speed run through elephant mausoleum and I guess I out ran the games ability to load stuff cause I walked into a low polygon building and fell straight through the floor and into the death box below lol my buddy walked in 2 seconds after me and the building loaded in so he was fine. A lot of missing elements that explain some of the mechanics like maybe give a few tips to help understand how the hunter killer units work exactly. A few times the game kept spawning units directly in front of me immediately after they die so moving forward was almost impossible and there have been a few moments when I feel like "I guess I am that guy" cause everyone and their momma's decide to just engage me. Tanks taking pot shots from across the map and some weird detection glitches I think relating to how sound moves through the environment? Was in the scrapyard nexus and literally every step I took it alerted what felt like everyone on the map. BUT, God damn am I enjoying it. Me and two homies got eviscerated for the first time by scramblers last night. Legit made me scream lol.
"Do anything in this game, so you have chosen death." Yeah that's the impression iv heard from most people. That said, if the "Declaration of Fun" video was anything to go by, Fun Dog are dedicated and will make the game better. But Its definitely gonna be a few YEARS at least. This is definitely what "Early Access" is meant to be, not the "beta" 1 month before release AAA. Still their has been alot of GRATE Early Access games, but those are more in BETA then ALPHA.
I was lucky enough to have a friend who plays a lot of extraction shooter jump on this game with me (I have barely played a little of Hunt showdown and thats it). He showed me early on to explore the menus and customise your weapons, biggest of all get a silencer. @@generaljedi8691 To be honest that doesn't Suprise me. A Suppressor makes alot of sense to have if you can find/afford to buy one. Like ITS A WAR ZONE, so gunfire is expected. But no one is probably gonna hear a Suppressed shot/ shots other then the Squad you are directly engaging. Like the Gameplay is Cleary meant to be mostly "STEALTH", so a Suppressor is kinda a no brainer. Till you get some REAL firepower anyway, but even then "Discretion is the better part of valor".
Bought and played yesterday for the first time. Some keypoints: 1. You are the RAT. 2. You can definitely haul a lot of loot through the map without firing a SINGLE SHOT. 3. Loot for the first several quests to get the momentum going. Once you are comfortable with what you have, start taking risks and play with guns. 4. You can buy recruits that are support fire squad to help you with the timed extract. 5. Water is absolutely NOT AN ISSUE. Just go to Mech Trench and spawn at the Elevater level and avoid patrol/fights. There are always water there. 1 barrel per 2 minutes is easy. 6. EXPLOIT THE GAME MECHANICS. There are so many tutorials out already, I only died once in 8 raids because of a glitch. All of my raids I have surplus weapon. I am now rich, lol. 7. Best of luck out there, scavs.
2:27 not even far in and I can already praise you for commenting on the state of early access and how unlike bigger games this company is using it for its intended purchase. I only got 2 play the game for 3 days before house sitting without my pc and I heavily agree this game is in an alpha state and needs 1-2 years to cook before its at the release point. Yet with the experience I've had (28 days of water assured plus lots of loot) I'm already in love with this game. The enviroment are just mind blowing and as someone who runs the lightest and weakest armour on helldivers 2 I love the importance that stealth and situational awareness have. Yes with my moded AK I can easily kill a powerful squad or a hunter, but unlike HD2 where I can keep fighting in this a fight is the last option of I can't get away another way. The gun fights have so much weight cause each one could be your death and you know that if you survive you could be mere seconds from another one that you will most likely lose keeping you in your toes. Is the game a buggy mess, in some areas absolutely, seeing a T60 spin faster than a bayblade while flying through the map at Mach Jesus absolutely broke me with laughter, but 70-90% of the time in each match I am scared out of my mind as battles wage around me with all kinds of movement from all sides, and all I can do is wait for a moment to grab some lot of spring to the next area as I work towards an objective or extracting. I absolutely can not wait 2 see what this game becomes. So again thank you so much for touching on this point as I'm saddened by the hate they have gotten for this early access release.
Best pizza money I've spent in a long while, would gladly throw more at them. It's rough around the edges but that's ok, I'm here for the long run. Water is easy to find, and you get to know the maps quickly. Nothing else like this on the market and I'm enjoying the rough edges and learning different ways to play. What an awesome unique experience I get every time I launch the game. It hasn't been optimized so you'll need a beefy PC but they are patching often.
I had this experience where a squad of enemies goes right in a lane as ignore me who's in a dark corner hiding while they keep patroling and fighting the other army. The game vibe is transcendental. For the most part, you can just not shoot at all and you're playing it right.
This. I think by then end of it we will weed out the people denouncing this game like it was released by Activision-no, wait people still buy that slop... you get my meaning: the people with feedback that is backed by overblown "outrage".
more just play the game as much as you want without doing that. but if you dont submit feedback/bug reports, dont complain about it on YT comments or wherever the devs wont see it.
The game isn't even at the state where bug reports will help, they need to make the base core game work, they don't even have basic sound working properly, Ai spawns on top of you, makes no sound walking upto you then kills you in the 10 seconds you are looting a bag, after you spent the last 2 min making sure the area was clear before looting. Bug reports aren't going to help
@@lolsalad52 Exactly, this is what I'm saying. People will have a bad experience and then proceed to air their grievances in RU-vid replies or bury them in a reply on a random Reddit thread--rather than use the bug report feature or jump in the Discord to speak directly to the devs. It's almost like they'd rather their complaints NOT be seen by the devs which suggests they don't actually want the game to improve.
For anyone upset about what or where the game is in development. The devs made a very detailed video going over everything about the game and what to expect a month ago. They straightup said, this is a game where you will die and you are basically the bug living in a human's world.
I've almost fallen through that exact gap in the rail.... but reflexively jumped and managed to vault the next rail 🤯 Felt like I'd entered the matrix.
Give them time to learn. If Space Marine 2 is bringing back old school gaming then Forever winter is bringing back true early playtests. Hopefully they take their time and cook.
Great atmosphere ... poor players that watch youtube all day with less than 5hr played rating the game on its gameplay which will or would be the downfall of this game. Let the devs build their dreams they are more than willing for feedback, play and be in the community this game is special.
I think you get the hunter killers so much because of the group. I play solo and haven't had them come for me once. And I got out with some crazy valuable loot, like a box with multiple high tier weapons and stuff.
"...it's about a year away from when they should have launched it into early access" So they should have done a late access, as in, waited for the official launch? What is the point of early access then?
Patch yesterday night already rebalanced some of the Hunter Killer stuff and bunch of bug fixes. 3 more months probably would have been enough to smooth of the larger issues before EA. I don't think this is a misuse of EA at all. Does it cause some rifts with people who weren't following the devs to understand they released it earlier than planned? Yes of course. However the main community that wanted to play and test to help the devs is there and hopefully they're getting enough proper feedback without it being a distraction.
Ive been playing with a friend and having a good time. It is janky and broken and really needs sooo much work.... but damn, they nailed the vibe. The atmosphere and music is top notch. We've gotten ourselves to max traders now (very easy to do btw) and the combat is much more manageable with suppressors. The HK mechanic was really rough but they adjusted it and its much better. My biggest gripes are with the character controller, performance, enemy spawns and the quality of scopes available. i found 1 scope that isnt a red dot and its awful... but you know. early access things. XD Ill be playing it with my buddy and watching its progress closely. If they can iron out these bugs and make the gunplay feel better, this game could be something really special. also, the water thing really isnt that bad considering im expecting wipes with development at some point anyway, pretty normal. not to mention, after playing for only a couple days i have over a month of water... and i feel like if you arent playing for that long then whats it matter.
I love the aesthetic, I get Killzone 2 and 3 vibes from the world and love the brutal hopelessness. I bought to support and hope I can get passed the water mechanic
5:32 maybe this isnt what the devs have in plan for the difficulty but it would be cool to have a left 4 dead hanging option to pick your teammates up if they fall
if you ant sure if it's your type, wait for a full year or so and see what it wil become; if you love the concept, consider buy it & support the devs, show them that there's people care about their vision upon this game, to encourage them keep working on this instead of moving on.
overall this video made me the most hype for what this game could be someday soon. I've seen takes ssllightly more accurate to my experience so far, could be going eeeeven more quiet if you want to make it easier. but your team dynamic is awesome and the moments you guys create are just fantastic. Love the vid. Can't wait to see what's to come! 👏 edit: perfect job doing the vision justice, but also accurately portraying the current state of the game.
This looks really awesome, I love dark sci-fi games. Btw is there a way to get rid of the suitcase on your back? Aesthetically i am not too crazy about it lol.
Water system easy go to Mech trenches spawn at elevator run to central compound up stairs avoid patrol going downstairs loot all containers and grab water weapon mods then extra can be done in 2 -3 minutes without a shot fired or use of meds
Would really like a first person only or the ability to aim over the shoulder option. I’ve always hated the 3rd person to sights method, feels super shitty imo.
No worries man. You've made it clear. You want your hand held. Let the Dostoevsky Stans take over that controller for ya. Plenty vids of positive opinions. Granted they did mention it was early. Also , shared footage of success, playing as the creators intended. My apologies. I was just checking to see if there was something I hadn't already heard a dozen times. I'll see myself out .
It's SUCH A Beautiful game. the Models, the Maps... but i Wish i was just a LITTLE More powerful. or at the very least had more "Stealth" Abilities, sort of like Metal Gear or whatever. i feel like im using JUST My Ears, and my ears aren't that great. especially via TV Speakers that sucks. i mean. if i had some sort of Radar/Map that showed where Enemies are, or COULD be, id feel better.
this gmae is arguably the scariest survival shooter. the atmosphere the sounds and the merciless grotesque enemies legit make my nerves run high playing this
i dont get these youtubers saying about the combat then showing a clip of themselves in a situation where it was kinda avoidable then blame it on the game EA state alot of these review vids i seen hardly any of them are Division players who dont get the 3rd person looter shooter vibe this game gives me the same vibes of division one moment what is a janky movement compared to division 2 the gun play in forever winter is off but a huge majority of 3rd person shooters that use the 1st person to ADS is always off by a bit hopefully the devs will sit and let this game cook and post regular updates to sort it out the environment of this game is like none other for a EA game that's come out in 2024 also to bring up about hunt showdown the game what Crytek was gonna kill off if didnt do anything after EA 2018 release yeah they had a vision it was called Crysis 4
Steam might as well just remove the "early access" tag at this point. It has lost all meaning. People cried to get this game released in a nanosecond then proceeded to completely forget what early access means
The only “controversy” from the EA launch is from people who have forgotten what EA actually is. Complaining that the game is rough and shouldn’t have been released yet is idiotic, the point of it being released was so players could give feedback
This reminds me about greyzone warfare I think there is a major update planned in the fall could you double back on that game and give it another look?
havent played myself yet but from what ive been seeing besides the spawning next to you i think they need to adjust the ai hostility they seem hostile off the bat most of the time when part of the sales pitch was basically "they wont attack you unless you give them a reason to" and yes i know that people have been pissing them off by accidentally stealing from them thats the other bit ive noticed is that there probably needs to be a better way of identifying if a loot sorce, outside of a soldier or drones corpse, belongs to one faction or another so you at least know what youre getting into if you decide you really need that loot but again i havent gotten a chance to play it yet just working off what ive seen so far
I hope my laptop 3050 can handle this, heard that there will be a free demo in 1 month so I'll hold my horse but playing a real challenging PVE extraction looter shooter have been my dream for a while now so if the game clearly improve when the demo drop, I'd 100% buy it off the shelve.
I don’t get people who get angry over legitimate criticism of this game. This game is awesome, but now is the time to be critical and find those parts that need to be polished. Moreso with these devs that LISTEN.
lol looks like they pulled a page out of star citizen. i hope the devs get this down as i think this could be really cool. i dont like extraction shooters but the pve nature coop with friends works out better
the concept looks great, but with this water mechanic its worse than a live service mmo, i dont want to be forced to play this game because i can loose all my progress
the random enemy spawning and seemingly intentionally spawning enemies on players under certain conditions is the biggest goof that needs to be solved for this game to work
