"it's maybe hundred grams, I wish I had a scale." Man, do you even know what you bought? It's right in the ilustrated handbook that the Tungsten (Wolfram) is 60g and the Stainless Steel one is 28g, half the weight.
In case no one answered why Tungsten is a W on the Periodic Table of Elements it is because it's also known as Wolfram. I think Tungsten and Wolfram are both cool names.
@@jasmine2501I'm not surprised you know. But I had to look it up. Thanks for the video. I am a new customer thanks to you. I'll drop them a line. You deserve another freebie imho. I appreciate your post.
Only when you're in a gravitational field. The mass is a physical constant. These metals have varying density, so the same size object has different mass.
Tungsten was discovered in Spain, by Juan José and Fausto de Elhuyar, two brothers, and was called Wolfram, by the mineral from which they extracted it. The name "wolframite" is derived from German "wolf rahm", name given by Johan Gottschalk Wallerius in 1747, which derives from "Lupi spuma", the name Georg Agricola used for the mineral in 1546, which translates into English as "wolf's froth" or "wolf's cream", a reference to the large amounts of tin consumed by the mineral during its extraction, the phenomenon being likened to a wolf eating a sheep, hence that 'W'.
I don't think he's saying "why is this W on here?", I think he's saying "W, the chemical symbol for Tungsten, I wonder why it's a W?". Personally, I've known the chemical symbol for Tungsten since I was 12 or 13 and learning chemistry in senior (high) school, but until today I never knew it's alternate name is Wolfram.
Play Astroneer :D you have to mine Wolframite then smelt it into Tungsten. astroneer.fandom.com/wiki/Wolframite I would not have known before this game.
@@jasmine2501 you could use that crappy logic to everything taught at school then. Why didn't your parents simply leave you with the knowledge of eating grass and pooping in non-intrusive spaces then? Education builds on knowledge from several spheres which then help you infer information from the world and progress further. And the more knowledge you have, the better your inferences will be (also more grounded) hence, assisting with your reasoning being more grounded and hence your decisions being more correct and you being more successful. Again, this is why education is important, so we have answers for the un/under educated such as yourself. 😕
@@St_Lucifer_Morningstar People do not need to know everything. YOU clearly DON'T. I actually know the history of why things are called what they are called, and it is useless information that never comes up. I made the comment because I hoped people would go look it up, not because I wanted people like you to be dicks about it. Assuming that I don't know the answer because I chose to make light of the situation, is where you failed. It was a joke, and your know-it-all attitude that prompted you to make a comment about that joke, will bite you in the ass if you keep it up. People don't like that one bit, as you can see. I hope you can tell that I don't like these comments one bit. If you are surprised by that, then you have some work to do.
@@jasmine2501 I looked at my earlier response and it shocked me to see how rude it was. I would like to apologise. I still stand by my views but that was not the right way to project them. I'm sorry for the earlier message. @jasmine
The W-thing is actually a pretty funny story. Around the time when the element was analysed and discovered, a swede named Carl Wilhelm Scheele called it "Tungsten" (which means "heavy rock" in Swedish) because of its high density. The name spread to other countries, including USA (of course). Later, the vast majority of countries instead adopted the german name, "Wolfram", which describes how the metal reacts with molten tin (in a "wolflike fashion", that it), and that's why W is the symbol for Tungsten.
They send orders right away, no problem. It just has to come all the way from Canada and I live in the south. I have ordered a few more times and they usually send it in 1 or 2 days.
The troll that was so into that piece of a spear that stabbed Hell Boy can probably explain all of it. Tungsten however was a term that we use a lot from a photography class describing a light source of an amber color while looking at a visible spectrum chart. I wasn't aware that tunsten was actually an element.
@@joevalenzuela9443 it's because tungsten was used in the Edison light bulb, and it produces a specific mix of frequencies depending on temperature of the bulb. The 5000K, 8000K, or whatever you use for white balance, is simply the Kelvin temperature of a tungsten filament which produces that color. It ranges from a dull amber to pure white.
Yeah, I was gonna make a breath holding demonstration cause I can hold my breath for seven minutes, but I did not want to make the video that long either
when I spin a top, it starts spinning stable but then constantly travels in a certain direction, (i think it might be towards me from where I spun it form) so if i do it on a table for example...it just slowly glides towards the edge of the table and usually as a result it doesn't do a full spin till it dies on its own because it ends up either hitting something or I have to stop it before it falls any idea why ? is it the way I spin it ?
That is just from spinning it on a flat surface that isn't level. That is why most of us use a concave mirror or lense. Look for a makeup mirror with 3X magnification - higher magnifications will have too much curve. I also really like using a concave lense with focal length between 30mm and 50mm.
thanks, I suspected it might be from a none level surface, as I was actually able to get it to spin 'still' on a different surface. I will look into getting a lens, so even if the lens is placed on a surface that isn't level... the concave shape keeps it centered or whatever ?
The top will try to fall into the lowest spot on the surface. As long as that low spot is within the edge of the mirror, then you're good. You can also shim a mirror easier than leveling a table. You can move it around too, so your tops don't grind into the same spot all the time. If your top is harder than the mirror, like a ruby bearing top on an acrylic mirror, then the top will grind the mirror. That is better than the mirror grinding the top, because mirrors are easier to replace. The community is starting to use non-glass surfaces more often these days - ceramics, acrylic, even polished wood!
I am a top collector. I still spin this one. My collection is displayed so you can play with them. It is not as shiny as it used to be, but it still spins good.
ForeverSpin has some affordable options made with other metals like aluminum and brass. They are really high quality. The tungsten top is pretty expensive, but I don't regret buying it.
jasmine2501 with the exchange rate to nzd even the cheapest one is $48 which is a lot of money not including shipping for a 16 year old with not much money
hey man i just got my tungsten top with the base, how long can you get yours to spin? so far im at 2mins and 30 seconds i cant seem to go longer is that normal?
It is difficult to put a good rip on it because it's soo heavy and the shaft is fairly smooth, but if you can get a good grip and work on your technique, then you should be able to get ten minutes or more on it. You need to have a quality spin station though, and be careful not to drop it too much, try to spin it smoothly.
@@jasmine2501 im using the foreverspin spin base, im getting a super smooth start on my spin not wiggly at all, i got 5 mins out of it earlier today but i honestly cant see 10 mins, whats the longest youve got your tungsten? i also ordered the titanium one, im thinking about the Damascus Steel, then copper and my last on will be silver! thanks for being so quick to reply you have indeed got my sub =)
@@GamingWithZeap If you want long spinning tops look at Kemner and the Lambda tops, and other craft ones. Join the facebook group called Pocket Top Talk if you want to see some real quality. Foreverspin is mass produced medium quality stuff. This design is not a long spinning design, or an easy one to launch. They are nice to experience the different metals, but they are limited by the "inception" design.
@@jasmine2501 ah alright, thank you for the info! i Bought this not because of inception but because Tungsten is my favorite element, it fascinates me how dense it is and SUPER strong unlike the softness of lead. I do like lead also but you cant really make anything nice out of it because its so malleable . Have a great weekends and thanks again for the info going to check them out.
Honestly, I would say that's pretty mediocre. I myself am able to spin the regular (stainless steel) top for over three and a half minutes. However, if you just keep at it, I am sure you might get close to my level one day! :)
Spun my Cheetop stainless steel top, 40grams, for 9:04 today. It has a very low centre of gravity, unlike these ones. I bought this top because it’s heavy and cool af, not for the spin time. The lighter versions (magnesium, aluminium) of this top can spin upside down easily.
“Tungsten. W for some reason”. LOL You must not have taken basic Chemistry in high school. That’s the symbol for the metal Tungsten from the Periodic Table of Elements. I’m in my 50s and still remember that from my high school days.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I was curious about this, since I saw an ad of it a few weeks ago... If I would get one, I want a pure silver one hahaha..
jasmine2501 - That’s still awesome. 2 or 3 minutes would be a distracting interval while working, but if I could get it going for 15, it could be a neat reminder to focus and stretch
Since acquiring the Tungsten ForeverSpin top one week ago, I have been able to reach a spinning duration of over eight and a half minutes straight. Not everyone will be equipped with the right mindset to adhere to my extreme training regime; carefully designed with nothing less than absolute victory in mind. There's more than one way to reach the gong. Yes. To each his own. My motivation was very different from jasmine2501's. My motivation was to be the best; to be the greatest spinner alive as I always have been. Until Kakarot came into the picture that is. Kakarot's success was like a demon in my head. How could he be a super spinner, when I, the prince of all spinners could not? The intensity of my training was maddening. At 450 times normal gravity, a basic training game became a desperate struggle for survival. Even the simplest moves required every ounce of willpower I had. I wasn't sure how long I could sustain the effort without breaking in two. It seemed like the only thing holding my body together was my one desire; to be better than Kakarot. At times I thought I was losing my mind. Why couldn't I obtain what Kakarot obtained? It didn't make sense. It was infuriating, and it was my fury that kept me alive. I decided to continue my training in the solitude of space, where I would be unhindered by the distractions of the Earth. And when a violent electrical storm erupted in the skies of the planet I was on, I welcomed it, it seemed fitting, like it was an outward manifestation of the storm that was raging inside of me. Then the meteors started coming down, but I was determined to survive and also protect my ship from destruction. It was my only way out, my only way off that nightmarish heap of rubble. I thought I had everything under control, but then, the mother of all meteors seemed to appear out of nowhere, to claim my ship, and my life. Normally it would have been child's play to blow up that rock, but after training in 450 times normal gravity for so long, it took everything I had and more. Then something just snapped, something inside of me. I didn't care anymore, I didn't care about being better than Kakarot. I didn't care about being a super spinner, I didn't care if I lived, I didn't care about anything, and then, it happened. Yes, that's how it happened. That's how I became a super spinner. The sleeper has awakened. I am the prince of all spinners once again!
W is the symbol for Tungsten . . . 94 is the atomic weight. "You get what you pay for" . . . and you payed a lot of money for what you got. Not saying anything against the ForeverSpin tops . . . but I got one that spins for hours. (about 10 hours before I stopped it because of the noise it made . . . very faint, but nerve grating none-the-less). Wanna' have a race test?
I have a ton of tops here. They are all different styles. Some are long spinners, some are not. That's just part of top collecting. Long spins is not all there is.
@@jasmine2501 Touché . . . my short-sightedness . . . you are completely correct . . . BUT if they only spun a few seconds or not at all would your collection be so large ? I think BeautySpin or LavishSpin would be a better name. Sorry for my hair-trigger ignorance.
I am in a holding pattern to get one soon. I just keep holding off. I am not in it for the top, but the metal collecting bit. Maybe the top part will make it fun. My kid might get a kick out of them.
