If you are a Singaporean or you've been to Singapore, you should have heard and tried our famous Black Pepper Crabs. This is a good alternative to your usual Black Pepper Crabs or Chilli Crabs. Remember to enjoy the crab sauce by dipping some bread or mantou. You gotta try this recipe. This is soooooo good!

Ingredients:
Serves 3 (if you're eating this as the only dish)
Makes 8 pieces
1 tablesppon coarsely crushed white pepper (recommend to increase to 2 tbsp)
50g of butter
Some cooking oil
1 bulb of chopped garlic
1 mid-sized red onion - sliced
2 cups of water
1 teaspoon of chicken stock powder
0.5 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
2 crabs weighing 1.2kg in total
1/3 cup of evaporated milk
2 stalks of spring onion
Some cornstarch solution

Today I cook these crabs and they are delicious, thanks for the recipe, only that I use blue crab that is what we have in Mexico, I feel that they do not have as much meat as you get there, I thought to use soft shell crabs, what do you think? .

Thank you so much for using our recipe. We’re so happy to know that you enjoyed this recipe. Yes you can use soft shell crabs too. You can deep fry the soft shell crab in batter first then coat it with this white pepper sauce. Yummy!

Good morning Monie! You can mix 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with equal parts of water. Make it into a solution and use it to thicken the sauce to your liking. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas to you!

Hello, I've been watching your videos. Can I ask where did you get your crabs from? The ones in the supermarket seemed rather small. I have also watched your video on how to clean live crabs. The place where you bought the crabs seemed better :)

Yummy! Can replace crab with prawns and can buy crushed pepper outside or we need to crush it ourselves?

Good morning Gabby. If you can find crushed white pepper, you can use those. But not those that are finely grounded. We suspect it may be difficult to find coarse white pepper S ya - most likely you need to crush them yourself at home. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas to you!

Is the Mud Crab, Siri Lanka Crab?

Hi Zane. According to what we know, all Sri Lankan crabs are mud crabs but in Singapore, only the bigger ones are called Sri Lankan crabs. The smaller ones are sold cheaper. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas to you!

Spice N' Pans crunchy from outside is fine if its a fried preparation.incase of chilli prawn or garlic butter prawn if it becomes crunchy it feels like chewing gum

How about using coconut milk/cream?

Hi Filipo. So sorry for our late reply. We wouldn’t recommend the use of coconut milk because the coconut taste may be overpowering. If you don’t have evaporated milk, you can mix one or two packs of creamer with hot water and use that instead. Hope this helps.

@@spicenpans It's all right and thank you for replying. I guess it also goes to say that it would also not be a good idea to use coconut oil/v.c.o. for the same reason that its aroma/flavor would be overpowering to the dish. So I'll use other mild cooking oil, right?
