My “high heels” are comfy Sezane Paula Babies with their 2-inch block heels, in several colors. I love these so much for all occasions except when I need to do a lot of walking, more than just popping into a restaurant. I never need anything higher-heeled or fancier than these where in live, even for dressy events, which is perfect, because I can’t wear 3-inch heels (“high heels”) and up. The arch pain is so extreme that I can’t even stand in them, much less walk. I haven’t seen a woman actually wearing those high, spiky heels here in San Francisco for thirty, maybe forty, years. Only in Pinterest photos! Not only are high heels painful, dangerous and extremely impractical, they’re not even in style and haven’t been for ages. My whole career was spent in a conservative corporate office and even with our daily skirt suits, we never wore them. The best thing to come out of the pandemic was the much greater selection of chic flat and low-to-medium heel shoes, it’s about time!
I’ve always loved ballerinas❤️ Have many pairs & wear on repeat as soon as sandal weather is over. I’ve always found them to be way more comfortable than sneakers since they are so light & easy to slip on & off❤️
Most of the shoes in the images shown here are actually low (1 to 2 inches) heels or medium (2 to 3 inches) heels, not flats, which are 0 to 1 inch high. (Style elements and details like these, heel heights and styles, do have definitions and standards). I love to wear a medium heel whenever I can, they “give me back” the two inches of height I lost since my youthful 5’6” height. I only found out two years ago about this, US nurses don’t normally measure height in adults, but this one did she said I didn’t look 5’6” - the experienced eye. I had to lose 20-25 lbs., my ideal BMI/weight was based on the wrong height. I thought I felt a bit plump, but didn’t really understand why! It seems like a lot of height to lose, I was only 62 then, not 92, but I have had spinal disease and surgery, in addition of aging. I want a taller aspect ratio! Alice, if you wearer shoes with a bit better design and greater width everyday, that bunion should be re-absorbed eventually, it looks painful! Mine, from my career days did, it took about six years or so. You might try Calla shoes, which are designed for those with bunions and other foot problems. So far, I’ve only found one style there I love, but I’ll keep looking.
I'd like to find a D'Orsay flat that has some cushioning/support for impact and support. It's a good shape for me but they are usually not supportive at all.
I just got a pair of Seven or Nine sling-backs, but couldn’t figure out how to fasten the buckles, I had never seen any like them before. Fortunately, the nice guys at the shoe repair shop did, and they showed me how. The whole buckle assembly on the strap gets looped behind the U-shaped part on the shoe, I never would have figured it out. Apparently, these are “quick-release buckles” that dancers use a lot. I like them a lot, they are so much easier to use, after the initial buckle/strap adjustment. I learn something new everyday. (These are their pair with silver chains that can be attached, but I’m not interested in that part, just the overall design and look, which is nice and simple. Instructions for attaching the chains were provided, but not for how to fasten the buckles, maybe other women have seen them before).
Great video, thank you Alice. How do you avoid getting blisters in these shoes or are you wearing hidden socks? I would love to wear shoes like ballerinas or loafers but find they rub my heel, especially when walking a lot.
Getting shoes made of real leather usually helps that problem as the leather will mold to the shape of your feet the more you wear them. Also it's just about taking the time to find shoes that truly fit correctly.

I love ballerina shoes but for long walking around they do hurt my feet even if they are comfortable! I always wear flats anyway because I’m 5’11” tall
Yes when you wear the ballerina Flats the pointed toe makes your leg look longer and you should stick with a neutral nude color or the same color as the pants you're wearing. I'm 5'2" and I only wear the round toe ones or the square toe ones with certain outfits... you'll know if you own them all and you look at yourself in the mirror the difference that it makes. The right or wrong toe will make you look shorter and completely change the look of your outfit.

I am not sure how easy it will be to order, and it appears that I can't get them in England. Is there a way of getting the shoes in Paris?

In Mexico we use super.high heels. I transition out of it and i feel like i look not put together whenever I use flat shoes! We would never use flats with a dress.... Question, what about the tow box, i see your shows are very tight in the toe box that creatws bunions. So what are the options for a rounded box?
I’m not forgetting heels. Nothing looks worse than a woman in a dressy outfit wearing flats in my opinion. I’m 5’10 and always wear flats when dressed up.
