A full look at one of my forged knives. I'm still fairly new to the process but I'm happy with how far I've come. I decided to add a live edge burl piece for the handle to add to that overall textured feel along with the brute de forge blade. Super thrilled with how this one came together in the end. Thanks for watching!

Will you fill the hole on the handle with resin? Or is it intended to be rustic finish?

I left it on purpose. Liked the way it looked

The knife looks really cool...almost like some black ink spilled across the blade intentionally

"Forging". Tbh could have saved yourself a lof of time by simply cutting the shape out right away.

I don’t think you understand the concept of forging…
@GohanSama
@GohanSama 27 дней назад
@@saccoknives And what is the concept that makes what I've written untrue? You took a flat piece of steel, heated it a few times, hit it with a hammer a few times and then used angle grinder to get a shape that looked nothing like your "forged" product. For me, personally, "Forging" is a bit of a clickbait in this case.
@saccoknives
@saccoknives 27 дней назад
@@GohanSama stretched a piece of steel, forged in distal tapers in both directions, it all ads a level of uniqueness and character to the final piece. Forging is simply a different way of making a knife. It’s also a way to get more out of your steel by stretching the material.
@GohanSama
@GohanSama 26 дней назад
@@saccoknives You talk about "getting more out of your steel" and then you cut a shitload of it away with an angle grinder. Your grinding skills are top. Your forging needs work. Technically, this knife went through a forge, but I would not call this a forged knife.

@@GohanSama I’m afraid you still don’t understand. And that’s okay

noob question but why is the disk sander used ?
@saccoknives
@saccoknives 6 месяцев назад
not a noob question at all! The disc sander is machined properly flat, so it covers quite a larger surface area on the bevels of my knife vs the 2 inches my belt sander gives me. This allows me to even out my grinds and double check that I've not got any high or low spots left over from my 2x72. It's also good with a leather backing because again, it's got a nice large flat surface area, so with the leather I can blend my convex grinds over a larger area and even everything out which really helps cut down on hand sanding. Essentially its just a super handy tool if you want to get flat bevels, or make sure your tang and handle material flat for better glue ups. hope this helps

@@saccoknives sweet! Thanks for the informative reply. I got into knife making recently so the disk sander is definitely something I’ll be looking into in the near future!

@@cressibuiltcustoms if you're getting a disc sander I would HIGHLY recommend getting the VFD with it or some sort of speed control. Otherwise they can be quite difficult and slightly terrifying to use!
