Now that is absolute perfection in the art of knife forging and wooden scabbard covered with leather and hand sewn the workmanship is outstanding heck just all around craftmanship! YOU JUST CAN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN PERFECTION
Absolutely amazing quality work! That san mai, plus the brass accents, is incredible to look at. I hope the person you made it for absolutely loves it.
Hi Freerk.! i am a big fan of your work, you are one VERY talented blacksmith. Love this Bowie, all except the wood handle. Love the brass bolster & pommel, however in my opinion the wood..??? and the shape of the wood, let's the knife down. I would have like to have seen a much nicer wood, and a much nicer (rounded edge shaped handle. The shape & colour of this wood, makes it look like a Chinese Bowie (just saying.!) Hahahahahahah. I score it a 6 out of 10, solely because of the wooden handle. A disappointed fan..!!
He starts by getting one piece to size, then takes a second piece, cuts that into two pieces and sandwiches the first bit with the two new bits to make a triple layer billet. Just like Cold Steel "San Mai" blades.
I gave my comment below before watching you make the sheath/scabbard. I see now why you used the dark wood..?? for the handle, obviously to match the black hide you used for the sheath/scabbard. I love the concept for the sheath/scabbard, just hate the colour. I would have much preferred a nice burl handle, with a tan coloured sheath/scabbard. This would have matched the brass hardware a lot nicer than black. (in my opinion) others, including yourself may differ.
