Woke up this morning, perused youtube to see what was posted, saw a new Joey van der Steeg video was up and everything else was quickly down-graded as secondary. Thank God your posting videos again, this is awesome!

I love to watch you forge. You show the hammer blows, the position of the hammer and the direction of the blows. This all helps me. Also very nice hook

Your hammer control is the stuff of legends! You get more purposeful movement from one hammer blow than I do from any 5 of my own. Truly a pleasure to watch you work!

It’s amazing that you keep finding all these pristine anvils. So many was destroyed and repurposed during the wars and what not. There isn’t to many for sale in the states. For what is they want new anvil prices and there usually damaged. Thankfully i lucked up on mine. Free and perfect shape. 😉

Damn joey! That's a deep etch on that iron hammer. Looks like you found it at the bottom of the ocean in a ship wreck. It's gnarly, I dig it.

Interesting to see how the breast of the anvil restricts the deformation of the stock while drawing out. I'm sure there are more reasons for the breast, maybe a lesson on that would be interesting. Thank you for sharing

Hey good day, awesome video as always. You are the man! Quite the master for sure! Love The anvils,As well as the history lesson. Have numerous anvil’s, mostly German and European. One is 106 pound Bavarian with extra reinforced leg area or step you may say. It’s pretty cool. And numerous others. The side face is very handy, as you demonstrated in that beautiful piece you did. Despite any flaw that you may see, we all see its beauty. And imperfections are The nature of handwork. However, you certainly do not want to be a butcher :-). Thank you so much for the demo and inspiring everyone. Keep up the great work, as always. Stay well and have a beautiful day. Jim

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Out of curiosity, how much of an investment would the number 11 have been when it was new? I only tinker around, and am very much still learning about blacksmithing and its history.

I unfortunately do not have references to what this anvil would have cost in 1894. Undoubtedly not cheap.

Hey Joey, nice demo. Can I ask what is the advantage of the angled breast side on the back of the anvil?

If it can be done: snub nosed version of this. Not the hook end. Put the flower on side in a scroll (snub), and my life will be complete.
