Welding in a hardened edge and creating custom axe bits🤯 mind blown. You're one in a million. Watched this with my dad and he teared up because you reminded him of his father. Great video

Finally was able to get out to the forge and use the hammer I bought from you. Outstanding John absolutely love that hammer! Anyone thinking about buying one should.

Same here, Will. I made some tools this weekend with the hammer John made. What a difference it makes having a properly dressed hammer. Going to get a cross peen next.

I had no idea that railroad clips were medium/high carbon steel! I have a whole bunch from my great uncle!

Rail road anchor clips are. most other parts are mild.
@maplebones
@maplebones 3 года назад
You can use any mild steel for the body if you're welding in a bit. At one time the body would have been wrought iron which is softer than steel and they were fine.

What I find most interesting, following a few blacksmithing channels, is that no two blacksmiths use the same hammer. Different shapes, sizes, weights, handle styles. The hammer is a very personal tool to the blacksmith. It's a fun little detail.

Yes, same with the height of the anvil I think I just wonder how they get all these hammers, do they craft it ?

Today tested my ribbon burner that I copied your build as best I could. I tried to forge weld today an old hand ax much as your tommy hawk and jpl service Inc and remember you had also learned from her , But get back to my forge weld the first try I retry my Tommy Hawk and my first ever forge weld I ground it to check out and look welded tomorrow I'll test it with chisel and heavy hammer but looks welded. I do believe my rebuild of the burner is hotter and a fast yellow heat is the difference Thanks,John
