You could machine it. Steel is even slightly lighter than brass (which is what Zippo lighter casings are made of).

I honestly know nothing about blacksmithing or anything like that. I really watch this to see all the cool stuff he makes and the process he goes through. and if not that it's the slow motion shots of all of the flakes of glowing metal flying of the piece after it gets pounded. also for that sweet roll at 5:20.

I reckon a collaboration with a jeweller to make some Damascus steel spectacles would be a very interesting project from watching a large project move into a more precise project area.

sometimes the worst days that end positive can be the greatest days. it is an awesome feeling laboring failing fixing and then tired looking at the result and be happy with what you accomplished!! I can see it on his face it is awesome.

massive steel hinges on a decorative wooden box...i dont think the tiny delamination is going to be a structural issue.

I love the sound your power hammer makes when it's not hitting. It's like a dog excitedly panting waiting for you to throw the ball so it can fetch for you again, because he's a good dog, the best dog, that is the most enthusiastic fetcher ever.

alec i wonder where you get all that energy from... i mean not enough that you stand in the workshop longer than most of us work, no, you take videos of it and after you're done in the shop you sit infront of your computer for ages turning silly shop videos into amazing pieces of art. i always get goosebumps from the cinematics!

Well done Alec, talk about a labor of love, saving the damascus from the brink. If your worried about the delamination on the back, position your threaded pins so they support either side of the weakness, so they can't move. Once again, another great production. Yes, add the blue hat.

+Alec Steele being that this box is from a "Samurai", and in the idea of infusing Japanese culture into it, it would be nice to see you infuse the cracks with gold and embrace the cracks/flaws. Like in the style of Kintsugi (Kintsukuroi).

Great videos Alec, well done mate. I was just thinking, although a belt buckle would be awesome for the end of that Damascus billet, you could consider turning it into a plaque and engrave something in it to commemorate the samurai carpenter. Just a thought. I love your videos though, keep kicking goals :)
