He is very good. Have you checked out John at Black Bear Forge? He's also a good teacher.

Yeah, I use to like him too untill he showed his ass to a fellow black smith on his facebook page. Left a bad taste in my mouth. It was over a difference of opinion and ol John basically made it seem like his word was law. so I kinda avoid dude now.. DF was my first youtuber when I started out so I guess there is also just some loyalty.

the most important part of this video for me, and I almost mist it was the discussion at the end about technique. Thank you for the reminder.

Thanks for your time Dennis. I love the efficiency of punching that first hole to make a "T". I also appreciate how you used the set rivet to adjust your reins and bit doing 2 jobs done at the same time. Stay well

Denis, what type of steel did you use to make these tongs? "Mild" or a "high-carbon"(-ish) steel? Also, thank you for showing all of your hammer work to give us a better understanding of what it takes to make a pair of these tongs!
@df-intheshop330
@df-intheshop330 3 года назад
I make all my forging tongs from mild steel.

When Dennis makes the boss, he's making it for left handed use. If you are right handed, make the boss the other way so it fits in your left hand ( your tong hand if you're right handed)
@df-intheshop330
@df-intheshop330 3 года назад
This is the way everyone makes their tongs. I do hammer with my left hand and I have always used what you are calling right handed tongs. I don't believe their is any difference.

@@redrob6331 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e5uYj1QcMc0.html Read the underside of that hammer. Either that's an 8 or I am just blind and that says 3.
