In this video I will be forging a set of bolt jaw tongs made from tool steel. These tongs are quite easy and can be made in your home forge. These tongs make a great project for some one looking to improve there forge skills. If your struggling to hold your metal work this might just get the tongs or you.

Hi mate. Great video. I love the way you explain where the hammer blows are ie, half on half off the anvil. Not many people bother to explain exactly where they are striking the steel. Thank you.

I love those tongs. The only thing from my personal preference is I don't like the round part of the jaws before the bit, this is more unfavorable using a gas forge I find when they are too large in diameter they are a bit awkward to use when taking the stock out of the forge. I haven't built a coal forge yet so this is probably not an issue in an open area. Cheers

Really enjoy this but I find it really difficult to shape the steel, I’m not a blacksmith at all but love trying things at home but I will keep on trying lol....I have one of those “half sized” anvils (quite expensive for me) and I purchased a small gas operated furnaces so I can only heat the steel in short lengths....if I had my working life over again I would sacrifice finance (a little of it lol) to take a course in blacksmithing...thank you for the upload, it’s great !

@cypherian9821

First ! Ok now that I have watched the video lol , as the ,material is from fork tines will the constant heat and cool cycle during use weaken them ? The manner you make them I have seen though the fitment process you showed a bit better then most, IE the wood spacer. I am curious though some leave the reins strait, small kick up, or ball ended. I personally like the ball ended . Would you upset the end of the reign in the vice then work it to octagon and then to round with a hammer or would you use a forming block / swage block ?
