My Dad would have liked this. He started out as a blacksmith in about 1915, but when the automobile came along, smithing didn't pay the bills anymore. He took up the craft of repairing auto bodies and perfected his trade until 1990 when the insurance companies put him out of business. He died April 1st 1996. When he had something to do that took a great imagination, ability to copy one side of a car to recreate the smashed side. He taught me how to do the job Right the First time. He had very high standards and work ethics. I was always proud of him. Blue collar means nothing demeaning when one is the Best at what one loves to do. I still miss him and his crazy sense of humor. Thank you for sharing this with me.

Great idea. I love seeing different things people make from horse shoes. So if you see an old barn that got pushed over by high winds, ask the land owners if you can get a few pieces of the wood to make shelves with. He or she might let you have the whole thing. But get the main beams also, hopefully you can find one that didn't use nails to lock the frame together and the builders used wooden round pegs on all the joints. I would keep those pieces solid in one piece because people will pay you huge money from a old barn that was built hundreds of years ago. Those older barns that normally got turned into homes because the barn was solid and they just put in the bottom level floor and it would have tall ceilings in them. If I could go back 200 or even 300 years ago and retain all my memories, I can show them how to give themselves air conditioning by just using a 8 to 12 inch pipe and the air coming in would be about 20 or 30 degrees cooler than the air inside the house. We can do that today too. Just like our thermal heat pumps. It looks warm water into the ground and the ground coolsaet water to make it colder and it goes back into the house. On my way we use a PVC pipe and it goes straight out away from the house and the pipe needs to be pointed southwestern, that way the air will blow into the pipe and gets cooled off going under the ground and ends up inside the house. Have a door on it to control the air and in winter close it off so colder air can't get in.

As kids we used to make arrowheads out of horseshoe nails. You would flatten the stubby end and wrap it around arrow shaft and you had the best eye poker outer ever. That was in Poland during communism so finding ways to poke your eyes out was one of the few things we could do to entertain ourselves besides finding unexploded bombs from WWII in the woods. These days kids have video games.
