I've been working my way through your videos, and I very much admire your methodical approach to both forging and tooling. You tooling is extremely clever.

So clean I couldn’t find anything. It is the design of a process and tooling to fit that process. That is the heart of it. It makes for relative ease, simplicity, and consistent positive result. Congratulations.

Wow thats a tidy shop !!........mine has filled up with muddy wet dogs, dog sticks and balls, other peoples un finished projects and my mates brought round a huge leather lounger so they had somewhere to put there fat arses whilst they drink all my coffee....... Best wishes, in these strange times, from the UK.

I've been looking at jigs to make tong making more efficient im not sold on the other style where it's an all in one tool, i like to have multiple uses for a tool not a single use complicated design, love what your doing and will be taking some much needed inspiration

They came out looking very crisp and all under a power hammer. I would say that maybe you have a wee bit over kill with those many swage blocks. Could you not just do the one two three rotation using two of the simple ones? Never the less they look really impressive.

Thanks, I used 4140. They work well enough and won't mark up the hammer dies like H13 or S7 would.

I assume the different approach means you must own a power hammer. What’s your viewer base, 50 people? Show the same thing using an anvil, I assume you have one. Oh yeah, I saw the anvil in the last three seconds of footage, try using that.

@nssheepster

The value of this channel over others is the clear professionalism. The man makes a lot of tongs, so he takes the time to make tools specifically so he can make tongs as efficiently and effectively as possible. CAN he do it with the anvil? Sure. So can a thousand other channels. Try finding more channels that focus on doing neat, professional work... And you'll come up lacking. Even big channels like Alec Steele... The man has made HOW many knives over his channel's lifespan? And not a single custom tool to be found. Back in the day, that was how you judged blacksmiths. A smith had to make all their own tools, but a good smith made tools only for tasks they completed often. So a smith with many tools that were hardly used was faking it, but a smith with many tools well worn had range and clients, proving they were good at their job and had been good for a significant amount of time.

There's always two ways to do something, John has figured out that having a large assortment of kiss blocks make him a better worker. You can't fault a guy for being smarter so he doesn't have to work harder. His way of doing things is his way and if you don't like it, well just move on. He has the cleanest shop in the world and his projects teach a lot of people how to improved their work. If he's graces us with videos because it must take a hell of a lot of time to do , just say thanks for sharing and be grateful that a guy with talent is nice enough to share some of his tricks. The world has enough negative comments we don't need to read more.
@chrisrushbrook1587
@chrisrushbrook1587 5 лет назад
And the point of that comment was what Power hammer envy? It is what it is as I see it a good tutorial on the use of Kiss blocks and forms on a Power hammer it claims to be nothing more than that but receives negativity.

Im with you. That title promises an alternative way to make tongs (you assume in technique, for people who need to learn to make tongs) but shows how to make tongs on a power hammer. There's nothing alternative about technique, just different tooling. This is just how you make tongs on a power hammer. This is prime clickbait vague nondescript title to maximize potential clicks. No reason to not call the video "making tong under the power hammer" other than to lure in viewers who think they're going to learn a cool new technique they themselves can use to make tongs in an alternative way. And of course all critique os brushed away by fans as "jealousy" or or "other youtubers dont ever do this, this is so unique" - People, please. The man gets critique for titling his video like a doofus. There's nothing special about that and no need to defend the guy as if the critique is going to somehow hurt him. I'd be dismayed if my fans started reacting to critique like this, damn.
