I got an old CRT in my room and the start up hiss followed by the annoying very loud reading in my ears followed by the kinda frightening sound when I turn it off
@@Warp3326The one that I used to have stopped working some years ago 😔, it was from 2005, and it’s already been almost 5 years since it stopped working. The other one that I still have from 2002 stills works perfectly fine though, but it’s only 480i, compared to the one from 2005 that was up to 1080i, it was truly a beast.

@@user-rj6kx8eh5y yeah cuz it needs alot of electricity to start the CRT, once its started and running it uses about the same as a modern tv, atleast a modern CRT (80' - 2000's)
I think the distinctivity of the degaussing noise has something to do with special structure of aperture grille, which is vibrated by the degaussing field.
It's the degaussing coil on startup that removes any magnetic field in the tube and shadow mask so the purity is correct when the electron gun fires the image on the front. 1st is degaussing, then you hear high voltage charge and finally picture appears.
@@xXxmlg_vacxXx Could be wrong but I don't think you degauss plasma TVs. Never had one. The degaussing is because magnetic fields can distort the picture of a CRT.
Even some of the Broadcast level CRT monitors do that. I believe that it’s getting degaussed when you power it on to help remove magnetic interference but I’ll double check
@@XXXDomtacion me too. When mine goes out I will for sure be buying another one. Maybe a little smaller and a Samsung, LG or Panasonic. Those are the best brands imo. Nothing to worry about now because mine is still going strong with no issues.
Older CRTs would make a slowly decreasing whine when the TV was turned off. Also the image would collapse into a single pixel in the middle of the display the slowly dimmed after thr TV was turned off.
I picked up one of those old tv’s from the church (I never turned one on cause my grandma was watching csi on it always) I clicked the power but “vrrrm” “hissssh” scared the crap out of me went to my dad (who grew up in the late 80s early 90s) and I said i think it’s haunted my brother came in there with me and it was on
Man I remember the sound of the contactors closing and the buzz of the inrush current very well- unfortunately I think a contactor failing is why our old 1080p Panasonic CRT got replaced
That is either the the electron shooter going off or the TV doing a pre-operation degauss. and the goosebumps were static electricity from the charge glass from the electrons hitting it
My crt monitor does that noise but the 'donk' last for 2 seconds while it makes a crackly noise and then it clicks and forms the image. It scared me at first because I wasn't used to it but after day 3 it felt normal. That sounds is the electron gun starting to shoot at the filter
That is the degausse sound but I was trying to find the other video sound effect of old CRT TV's making that high pitched ringing noise you hear when gibbed by explosions in the Half Life 3 video game.
Anyone remember how the picture would take about 3-5 seconds to show up after turning it on and hearing the click. Then the picture would start across the middle and fill the whole screen or when you shut it off it does the same!
It's nice to see that they took full advantage of this widescreen HD CRT with a PS3 and and Xbox 360, I bet it looked miles better than any LCD or plasma TV of the time.
Way better than a piece of shit LCD TV they actually sold for $3000 in 2007 and $3000 Mini-LED TV these days. I want these back so bad. Sony WEGA is the only CRT TV that can be sexy too way better looking than LCD TV
