Most of these Old Cemetery's records get lost or misplaced when the Older Members Retire or pass away from the Cemetery Association, and sometimes they are looking for these small Cemetery's because something was recorded wrong. Both of the Robert's need to go check with the Local Library an find out where to let someone know they found the Cemetery.
That 's the problem you wish "they" would take acre of it. We all have responsibility to care for our ancestors graves. BTW, this is why I have chosen to be cremated
By the way the area is getting built up the city will have to clean up the cemetery to make the area more presentable for future commerce. This cemetery is going to be a corner lot directly on the main road so it will have to look nice.

PB Theriver thank you for finding the information on William C. Clark. I've seen graves like his in very old cities like Savannah and Charleston as well as the North Georgia mountains (church cemeteries) and Williamsburg, VA. It hurt to see something that old go unnamed when so much care was originally taken. Thanks again!

I could probably spend the rest of my life just cleaning these places up that y'all keep finding. The effort would just have to be a labor of love because the city/county has no budget for it and most are on private property. Those small children .... tragedy personified.
I would join you if I could....where I live there are several cemeteries with dates going back over 100 years. I walk through with my dog and we pay our respects often. It’s a place of peace and solitude for me and gives me an appreciation for life and lives lost through times long gone. I called the city to volunteer cleaning up the older graves but got no response .
Robert & Robert, my neighbor worked on a cemetery not too far from where they grew up. They found their grand mothers grave there & many unmarked graves. They got the State Univ Archeology dept to keep up research on the old graves so all work would be noted for future generations. I am just passing that info along as this way the state is made aware the cemeteries are at the locations. The Univ used an xray machine sothey could know people were buried there. Then the jr,sr, masters, & Phd students finished upthe work & the cemetary was documented for the state. Keep up this great work!

Most definitely! It's probably a mix of him growing up there and being interested in its history enough to remember information about SO many places. I love that he takes the time to share info *and* that The Original Robert records it.☺
It is my sincerest hopes that this cemetery can be spared, even if the development cannot be halted. Could the construction be altered, somehow or a larger fence (iron wrought iron looking) be placed around the graves? It would make this buried, hallowed ground an island in the midst of "progress". Sad, but hopeful. Look forward to a future update! 👍🏻❤️🙏

Looks like another one that the City Council needs to be involved in restoring. If they allow the development, then they can spend some tax dollars on cleaning up that cemetery. On "The Walton's " tv show, the episode of "The Pony Cart", Martha Corrine Walton, played brilliantly by Beulah Bondi in her Emmy winning performance , states that "neglected graves are a shameful thing". This episode of Sidestep Adventures, brought this back to me & thank you Robert for all you do to bring back the existence of people long gone and to try & correct that which has been neglected, their final resting place.
That is disgusting, disturbing, disgraceful, uncalled for,horrible!!!!! How can the city/town allow that? It is probably the founders or at least first inhabitants of that place. The city/town council should be notified and help fix it. Thank God for you two Roberts. Those people led important lives and should be remembered in a more respectful manner. Oh my goodness! I just did a video of a forgotten cemetery in town on the edge of a nice subdivision. The wood line was almost impossible to penetrate. The last person buried there was 1859.
Here's info on the family of the three children buried in this cemetery. Bradford Peddy born 1818 or 1819 was a son of Henry & Penny Hill Peddy. Bradford married Mary Pace March 16 1845 at Columbus GA. Mary was born 1826-28.He is in Muscogee Co GA from 1837 thru 1868. He is in Decatur Co GA deeds in 1840. He received land in Dale Co AL in 1853. In 1855 he sold land in Louisiana.In 1858 he bought land in Russell Co AL. In 1863 he enlisted in 29 Battalion GA Calvary - he was a ferrier. In 1865 he was a marriage official in Russell Co AL. In 1870 he is in Calhoun Co Ark.He & Mary had 13 children. 3 of his children are buried in the Peddy-Jones-Clark Cemetery in Muscogee Co GA. (This cemetery is near the welcome center on the Interstate near the Harris Co line.) I often wonder if some of the spirits haunt those who knowingly pave over the tops of the cemeteries. Possibly could be why so many people are running around angry and violent here. All they can think of is greed and don't consider that their actions can cause another reaction which could affect their lives and those around them. I know I wouldn't be happy and be able to rest if someone put a roadway over my grave...

I grew up in Columbus and my mother located and copied dozens of old cemeteries large and small. Most of her work was published by the East Alabama Genological Society and the college library has most of her papers. The remainder of the stuff we donated went to the LDS research room on Reese Rd. I live in Meriwether County, and would like to meet up with you sometime.

This would be a great community project for the local high school. They could learn how to be stewards of their local history and learn about some of the families that lived in your area.
This was a cool video but those people are long dead. Not everything needs to be "cleaned up." Lots of little animals live in that nature and cherish that space. There's no need to "clean" anything up for people that have been dead for a hundred plus years. Let nature have its peace

These are all so fascinating, I've binged watched! You had one video where a woman had three husbands, and it reminded me of my grandmother. She was a young widow in far north rural Washington State, trying to support herself and two toddlers, and estranged from her parents in Wyoming. She wound up caring for a man who was terminally ill (family story is that it was TB). Anyway, during those times (early 1930's) it was the ultimate scandal for a young woman to be a live-in caregiver for a single man. She and the man got married strictly to overcome the scandal. He passed less than a year later. She and her parents made peace, and she returned to Wyoming where she met and married my grandfather. Three husbands.
This is why I intend to be buried in a field, prob at the Hawk Conservancy here in the UK. Hopefully, with a tree on top of me. I have researched my family tree and seen so many graves in this condition. I love Sidestep Adventures, you are so very respectful.
Reminds me of a cemetery that was in the path of a freeway widening for the "new" international airport near Dallas Texas. There were 2 graves that weren't moved. A chain link fence was put around the 2 graves. It was in the area between the freeway and access road. As far as I know it's still there.
I hope you guys put all these on Find a Grave so people can know where these forgotten burials are. I can't tell you how many family members I've researched that I can not find an obit or a burial from back in the 1800's up till even the 1990's.
It's a shame how the dead are forgotten I really love what you guys do to find these places . I know once ur dead it's over but this is history that should not be forgotten. God bless you guys ✝️🛐♾️❤️ LOL
How can a graveyard/cemetery be sold? Won't the developer be required to disinter and reinter the bodies, and mark them respectfully and accurately? If not, why not!
The 1978 pictures of the cemetery , on Find a grave, really highlight just how overgrown it's become. But...then again we too change a lot over 40 years. Lol
When I was searching for my family cemeteries. My family said all our past relatives were destroy. Many were only marked with field stones. As new owners purchase property the replanted fields leaving graves forgotten. Please Robert we are grateful that he takes the time to clean off the lost Graves. Thank you for your work.
Thanks for showing that forgotten cementary. Very sad there is no organization to clean this all and make it public. The Graves are history of the country. Vandalism is a real problem still but not the reason to do nothing there. I few more years it becomes a forest..
Those two graves at 5:30- I've only ever seen 2 like that here in NJ. One is in a cemetery here in Atlantic County, and the other is all by itself in a field in Salem County.

How unusual to find a hidden cemetery in such an urban area! Great discovery! Those little box tombs for the kids are a sad sight. Mother Nature sure knows how to reclaim forgotten areas. I look forward to your next visits.

Its a shame this cemetery being in town on such a busy road and in the shape it is. Shame on Georgia for alowing these cemeteries you take us to get in this shape. I understand some of the lost ones in the woods but this one is right out in plain view.

Robert, I just found an old book I was given years ago called "Spoon River Anthology". It is all about the story of people buried in a cemetery. Very interesting. Probably still on Amazon.
My grandmother is buried on private property in NC there is no family there anymore. I tried finding it on find a grave and couldn't locate it. Very sad to see these forgotten graves.

Amazing all that the 2 Roberts do. Grandpa stuck his head in and said, "Tell them two, a word to the wise is sufficient...and to always be prepared for when ever you come across a new graveyard/cemetery. Another wise suggestion, want to avoid poison ivy/oak, wash your arms and legs with Fels Naphtha Soap, and you'll never have a problem! Rub it on clothes that may have been in contact with these plants and then throw in the wash.
At least Robert did bring something to cut some of the tree branches off and some gloves to protect his hands but at least y’all did find it and it’s so sad to see little babies buried there. It’s a great find for y’all to come back and uncover some more. God Bless y’all
