Oh wow this is very exciting! Petrol head's dream is right. I can't get enough of the sound of Amazon doors closing. I know a good mechanic that's restoring an Amazon and he's very knowledgeable so drop me a message if you get stuck on anything 👍
Thanks buddy. Honestly the sound of them doors is mad, it’s a proper car love it. It’s built like a tank aha I can see where the 940 gets it’s build feel from. thanks for that I am sure I will have some questions moving forward. I do hear that the engines are fairly simple so will definitely be getting stuck in for sure. Cant wait to hear it run.
Really nice Amazon. Have owned 1966 muself 4 door. In my opinion 4 door looks much better then 2 doors and is more practical. And they are so easy to work on.
Hi. I recently bought a 1966 2 door 121 amazon in blue which has great bodywork but needs a bit of tlc. A month after I bought it a 1968 2 door 121 amazon ( sand colour) with a genuine 40’000 miles with full history came up for sale so I had to buy that one also. I love these cars and enjoy your video 👍🏻
Thank you sounds like you have some great Amazon’s as well. I couldn’t pass this one up even I saw it. Everything checked out and has been confirmed by the Volvo owners club. I just can’t wait to get started on it.
A dream car is neither weird or in need of any justification. That is an astounding purchase, the history is just gob smacking, looking forward to this as much as I did with the Budget Clubman.
Thanks Graeme I am glad your excited over this one to. It was a car I just couldn’t say no to it was absolutely bang on to what I have been looking for. Cheers for watching 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics Just had a look at my dream car and it's still out of reach, £34k for a decent Glacier Blue MGA Roadster, ah wey I'll keep my fab Panda and dream a little more lol
@@SimpsonsClassics The Panda ticks all my boxes for a daily, I'd wanted one for a while and I'm certainly not disappointed, comfy, practical, can hold ts own on the motorway and still average 45mpg over a year of driving, bought it a year ago tomorrow.
Already told you this but I'm totally getting your enthusiasm for this Amazon. They are just great cars in general. Mechanically really strong and simple. Also, the body is made of this thick 1 mm steel that's really handy well doing bodywork. The vinyl is made of this wearing tough material that really holds up well. Just solid cars. And finding one that's like untouched, not being bodged in the past with filler around the rear arches and other know rust spots is great. Maybe it's a fun to make a will it run video if gets unstuck and still got some compression? Totally agree on the back to bare full restoration you suggested getting it sandblasted (the thick still can handle that) or acid dipped would be the best option in my opinion. My experience with these cars is that just welding in new repair panels (rear arch, boot, sills) and then treating it with several anti-rust paints and primers just is a sort term solution. Especially with the pitting corrosion this body has, it would be sensible to go all the way and do it right the first time. It being your dream car with only 6K original miles and it being an older rare 4 door model makes it all worth while.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I completely get those things you mentioned these are very well built cars and honestly can’t wait to get stuck in. I am definitely up for a make it run video it will be interesting to see it run and maybe move. Also just to see what does and doesn’t work on the car would be great. I hope you enjoy this series cheers for watching 👍
Absolutely wonderful! I'd love an Amazon, but even 'barn finds' are way more than I can afford in both money and time at the moment. I do have a viable 1990 740 estate knocking around, though.
Thanks James. I really can’t wait to work on this thing! It was a once in a lifetime purchase got me for sure. Loads of time and money needed for it. I love the sound of the 740 we also have a 940 to 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics they look great to. Amazons are really well designed and so are 240/740 & 940s. Some people will disagree but I love the boxy shape of the 80s and 90s Volvos
What can I say . Love it . Car is amazing . Hen's teeth come to mind . These finds are non existent now . Can't wait to see the restoration . Do film the engine build 😍
Thanks John glad you like it to. When I saw it I just had to have it. I would say it’s genuine the condition of the car and the history speaks well for the car. I will be sure to film as much as I can. Cheers for watching 👍
Hi Marc, I too like the look of the Amazon, it has character! And a lovely interior, love the colour, gorgeous red!! Low mileage and great condition on the whole hey. I also genuinely think this car was destined for you! Coz you will do the right thing by it and bring it back to it's former glory. The passion is already there from you! Great stuff, look forward to seeing the restoration 😊
Thanks buddy your saying and thinking all the things I am and I did when I saw it! I honestly can’t wait to get started on it and bring you guys content. Cheers for the kind comments
@@SimpsonsClassics No worries Marc, I meant it. Am I right in saying that Guy Martin has an estate version? Given the work you've done on the mini's and especially the clubman, then the Volvo will be just as cool 😎
@@andyfry1970 thanks buddy yes he has a mad custom estate/wagon amazon that’s just bonkers this will be a nice restoration with maybe some period mods. The plan is to use skills I learnt doing the clubman and put it into this. 👍
Very pleased for you ! I do believe it's going to be a fair bit trickier than the minis but your enthusiasm will deal with that I'm sure. Good luck. Look forward to more vids!
Thanks Toby I appreciate those words for me this is the one so really want to make it right and do a nice job of it. First step is get that engine moving. Then pull it out that way to crack on with the body. 👍
The round rear view mirror is from a 123GT, the most exclusive model of Amazon that was made only in 1967 and its worth quite a lot of money. I have two 1967 Amazons myself and one of them is a 123GT.
That’s interesting to know thank you maybe the 1 previous owner wanted to fit them one day. I think the original ones will stay with the car. Sounds like you have a lovely collection of Amazon’s 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics nothing as exciting as yours! Looking for a decent xc90 to pull our caravan. It will have limited use so budget is tight and seems best option. We need a 7 seater.
interesting car, when will i see it parked in tescos?! ;) just as you discribed it. if you need bits, i have a few mates in sweden who can help. got the bmw sorted ;)
@@SimpsonsClassics Im about to buy one this spring, i live in the stockholm area and i have spotted 3 amazon, close to me. One next to a friend, the cars been sitting for more than 10 years outside on asphalt and its looks alright. Im not going for a 100% original so its gonna be the the B230 enginewith carbs, sounds better and i dot have to bother with electronics i dont understand. One hing about youre car is the rear seat, i have never seen one of those and ive seen lots of an mazons in my life, is it realy from a amazon? Is it some export thing or what? An amazon, as i know it, dont have that armrest in the middle?
@@TheJonasbz I hope you manage to get one buddy they are great cars and I really can’t wait to start this project. They are a nice resto mod car for sure. Mine is a 64 so has a earlier seat set up not sure if it’s an export thing but my rear seats barely look used tbh
@@SimpsonsClassics When i was young, about40 years ago, you could get one for like £100 in sweden, now they almost gone and if you find one they sure aint cheap anymore But its not that hard to get parts, so its not that hard to restore
Hey, just thought I would add that I have a 1966 2 door, and yours isn't a 66 model based on the seats and rims and hub caps which are all pre 1965.. the grill looks right for a 66 model.. so might pay to check the chassis number to get an idea of the build date. As it stands its a mix of 66 and early ... also based on the condition of the engine bay and engine this car might have been around the clock and isn't a low mileage car.. too much build up of muck on the lower parts of the engine and crossmember..
Hi no mine has been confirmed by the Volvo owners club that the vehicle is a 64 built car as we thought when we first got the car. All numbers Match to a 64 which is great. Like you say the seats are a big give away. Mileage wise I would believe it’s genuine the interior is immaculate petals aren’t worn. The poor thing just hasn’t been stored very well and in damp conditions. Who knows the more we work on it the more we might find to back it up. Thanks for watching.
