Jack Daniel's Tour: • Touring Jack Daniel's ...
I bought this 1969 Buick Wildcat at auction sight unseen. Will it run and drive after sitting for 21 years? I sure hope so. This 430 cubic inch big block left the factory rated at 360 horsepower and 475 ft lbs of torque! Talk about a ripper. Stick around to the end of the video to see if it's still a ripper after all these years!

I don't get it either. Most of the full size cars with sedan rooflines look better proportioned in the 4 door variety. Ever notice how most of the people who hate on 4 doors are just about as big as the car? something I've observed over the years.

I was just a kid and my brother had a 66 wildcat. He always said that the motor was a 410. I turned out to be a Ford/ Mopar man but, whatever the motor was, even with a blown head gasket, the wildcat would ride. Brought back some memories. Lost my brother 4 months ago. Things just ain't the same. Thanks guys.

One of thee best moonshiner running cars was the 1940 Ford Coupe. Big trunk, more room in the back seat area, and alot of engine power. Ask just about any old-time moonshine runner--they'll remember the 40 Ford Coupe. There were many great runners doing the deed and doing it well, but those old Fords would surely get you and your inventory to where it needed it to be.

Her's my kinda funny-in-retrospect Wildcat story. Several years ago, a friend and his brother still-wet-behind-the-ears amateur mechanics. We've all been in that gearhead chapter, learning, making mistakes, works in progress. That's how we all started, picking up that first wrench for the first time kinda thing. Anyway, the 2 brothers really didn't know how important TIMING on any engine was, so here's what happened: They got this Wildcat to turn over somehow. There they were, my friend cranking the key, while his brother had HIS FACE above the Quadrajet (may as well been sucking on the end of a loaded shotgun). With that timing way off in some way or another, retarded or advanced, the car lit off for a rev or two, puking a HUGE FIREBALL from the carb. My friend's brother had his face above that carb, remember? When that hug fireball erupted, he went from having an Afro to being Kojak. He came fine, of course, but went from from having HAIR to looking like a cue ball. Reminded me of Wile E. Coyote getting blown up in the cartoons.

Stuff flying in your eyes, steering going all over the place.. that's fine. I didn't know they made a four door Wildcat. I had a two door 69 and loved it. Mine had the same 430 engine and the power and especially torque would surprise you. I used it for taking the wife out and road trips, but for racing fun i used my 70 Buick GS. That was probably faster than any car i ever had except my two Dodge Vipers. I am an old man and have owned over a hundred musclecars. Great video guys! Thanks!
@jeffreyrigged

they actually made a 4 door in every year wildcat and the centurions as well. The only year they made a gs wildcat was in 65 though and it was only a 2 door with the gs package. Alot of the wildcats have different front end and is slightly longer than its lesabre counter part. that stopped in 69.
@todddenio3200
@todddenio3200 5 месяцев назад
They offered the 4 door Wildcat because there were plenty of people who had families who still wanted a car with good performance and a sportier look while still providing more luxury than what a regular 4 door LeSabre gave.

I didn’t know the Wildcat was offered in a pillared version; thought they were all hardtops. My granny had a brand new ‘69 LeSabre with the 350; floored it everywhere…😜
@PhilRacicot
@PhilRacicot 5 месяцев назад
It was offered in a pillared version in 1964-69, not in 1962-63 or in 1970, usually with the cheaper interior trim (unless you bought it in Canada in 1964-66). My main reason not to want a 4 door sedan for me is because I want one with the Custom interior trim. Nicer interiors, front and rear armrests on Custom 4 doors hardtops and Canadian pillared sedans. I hate the plain bench seats with no center armrests. In 1970, the LeSabre Customer 455 replaced the base Wildcat series, kept the same model numbers and same features as the base 1969 Wildcats, and for the first time, the LeSabre could be ordered with chrome plated rims in 1970. BTW, the rims on this 1969 Wildcat aren’t original and not correct for that car. They are from 1971 or later.

@@PhilRacicot So those wheel are 5X5 pattern instead of 5X4 3/4?
@PhilRacicot
@PhilRacicot 5 месяцев назад
@@cheaptricked They are but there were many variations of the 5x5" bolt pattern chrome wheels. The style used in 1969 had a larger opening at the center for the cone-shaped caps that Buick used in 1966-70. The wheel design changed a few times. 1964, one year only and available on the Wildcat only. The webs were painted a light charcoal color, 1965, one year only model, available on the Riviera and on the Wildcat from now on, the painted part was now a bit darker and a register ring was added at the back of the wheel. 1966-67 wheels were like the 1965 wheels but with the 2 1/8" opening for the new center caps, in mid 1967, the center part of the wheel had to be modified to accommodate the optional 4 piston calipers and those wheels were painted black in the center instead of charcoal. The 1968-70 models used the 1967 disc brake wheels on all cars and they became offered on the LeSabre and Estate Wagons too. In 1971, the offset was changed and the hole for the center cap went back to 2" and center caps went back to the 1965 style but with new emblematic s. Chrome wheels were also offered on the Electra 225 starting in the early seventies (not in 1970, not sure about the first year). The register ring was also removed and because these cars no longer used 4 piston calipers, the black webs went back to a smoother shape similar to the early model (but the design, while similar was completely redone because of the new offset. Using the later wheels on a 1960s car make them reduce the car's track by 1" in addition to rire rubbing and possible interference with brake fins on some models. By the mid seventies, there were wheelcovers that copied the style of those wheels, you have to look carefully to tell the difference between them and the chrome wheels. Later in the seventies, a 15X7" version was offered and they remained offered on the RWD Electra and Estate Wagon up to 1987. The LeSabre, starting in 1977 would alternatively use the 5x5" wheels or the 5x4 3/4" wheels from the intermediates. If the car had a Pontiac 301, the wheels were the intermediate wheels. The Turbo V6 and Buick 350 equipped LeSabre had the larger wheels.

A polish is all it needs :) What a beautiful land yacht! I love the lines of the car. Any way of tweaking the engine for more power without blowing it up? Too bad it is so far gone.

The 301 engine you're talking about in the 1965 LeSabre is a 300 and it's not a nailhead, much closer design to the 430 than it is to a Nailhead. 401 and the 1965-66 "400" engines in Skylark GS models engines are Nailheads and even those 400 engines are in fact 401 engines! Nailheads were available in various displacements, early ones were 322, 264, 364, then 401 and 425. Don't expect seeing cubic inch displacements shown on the air cleaners, they show the torque rating and some versions with the same displacement have different torque rating depending of the compression ratios and carburetors. Don't be fooled by the valve on the pre-1967 small block Buick engines, they were made to look like Nailhead valve covers but these engines have nothing in common. The final year for the 300 and 340 V8 is 1967 and they changed the valve covers on them so they would look closer to the new for 1967 400/430 engines. One way to tell is a Buick V8 is a Nailhead or a later design, the position of the distributor, can't go wrong with that, unless it's not a Buick engine under the hood, a distributor at the back means a Nailhead, at the front any other Buick V engine that has a distributor!

YES!! I have been waiting for one of these cars to finally show up on a revival! I picked up a 2dr LeSabre 400 of the same year a couple of years ago and have had nothing but a blast with it! They are just awesome cars to curise around and just for piling in all the boys for a good time! Super underrated car and body style, can be a really cool cruisers with at little effort. I'm currently in the process of putting a 455 in mine and trying to complete the rat rod / Circle track car look (Patina included). They are super awsome cars if you can find the parts for them LOL, now I'll stop before I ramble all day about niche Buicks😅

It should still be points. Buicks 1st year for hei was 74. I converted my 72 centurion 455 to hei on my channel. They may have converted it.

What fun. Things to consider from someone who daily drives old big block Buicks: check to see if you have nylon timing gears and replace with a new metal set; that looks like the hard-to-find Buick 9 3/8 rear end, so be nice to it, and Cars Inc. Sells repro cast iron 12 inch Buick drums, fyi.

I love those old Buicks. Back in the late 70's I had a 69 Le Saber 4 door that actually served as my company truck the first year I went into business. Like you, I got a lot of laughs with it but it more than did the job. I'm looking forward to what you and Briar get up to next.

Buick is one of my favorite manufacturers, and the 64-66 wildcat is one of my top 3 cars. This is good enough for me though 😂

You picked a fine time to leave me old wheel, 7 whole miles from the Jack Daniels still. I thought it was alright, but I didn't make it tonight. You picked a fine time to leave me old wheel. (To the tune of Lucille, by Kenny Rogers)

Mr. MCcool... The next best option to the door situation was to stop prying and cut a 6×6 square of the door skin off and receive the latch mechanism. Atleast the integrity would of remained.

Just sold my faded red Wildcat here in Texas, for next to nothing. If this video was out 6 months ago, I would have been inspired to get her going. Awesome channel, just subbed!

Looks like a good parts car. Too bad it can't be saved, it would be a historical car. I don't know of too many 4 door Wildcats. Good luck Dylan, and God bless.

Grand father bought grandmother an 1074 Olds 98 with 455 it hauled and would cruse a 100 mph all day long not great on gas but very comfortable to ride in.

I almost bought one of these some years ago. It was a coupe and was in rough shape. I told the guy I would pass and he tried to give it to me. Turned out he and his wife had just bought the house and the car was left in the garage by the prior owners with the title left in it. Wife wanted the car gone. I still passed. Ended up with a 67' Pontiac Catalina 4 door sedan.

Briar should spend a couple days with the William Shatner acting academy. It would help with his enthusiasm for introductions of his segment.

I really liked the road trip part of the video, makes it feel like the best car show ever- Roadkill! It would be cool if you did more road trips. I think the car is kind of cool looking, shame it's pretty rotted and will be scrapped but not all of them can be saved. Briar seems like a great young guy and you guys make a great team. Keep up the good work!

That giant siren was a burglar alarm back in the day ..was wired into the light switch that when you open the doors it turns the dome lights on .if you open the door that siren would go off ..we had one of those in a 1966 Oldsmobile Starfire ..you had a toggle switches under the hood that you could turn it on and off

I don't know which I enjoyed more, the Griswolds going to Wally World, or Dylan going to Jack Daniel's. I'm leaning towards Dylan because it was real, and it was fun. Was it really fun? There's the question. There was also an element of danger, not knowing if the front end would stay under the car. One of the front tires just fall off like a United Airlines jet. Neither of those happened, flat rear tire. I didn't expect that. No problem though, get yourself an inner tube and a shot of air. That tire will be good as new. This video was a fun one to watch for sure. 👌😅

The siren could be for an alarm. I had the exact same thing on my roadrunner,the siren was connected to door jamb light switches!
