Eric Liddell was an Olympic sprinter that gave his all in every race. But this characteristic not only followed him on to the fields of competition, but on the fields of commission. Although the fleeting spark of fame would show to the world an Olympic champion, what very few realize is that his ultimate surrender was as a missionary, telling others of the God he loved so much.

The last quote was surly touching! How we wish to be so clear and unwavering all the time as we live our lives in these tumulus times. Thanks for the wonderful episode of a man who lived out the life of our Lord on this earth

This was beautifully done. Some facts are slightly off, but the message comes a cross strongly so that's what's important. FYI - Eric Liddell actually went to Siaochang in 1937 and became itinerant preacher, superintendent of the mission hospital, and administered first aid to the wounded and sick. He later went on furlough to Scotland as you said (with Florence and the children joining them). He and Florence returned in 1940, and Eric went back to Siaochang while Florence and the children stayed in Tianjin. Then, Eric was exiled from Siaochang in 1941 and returned to Tianjin with his family, where they soon had to say goodbye to each other. Your beautiful audio was mostly correct, but he was in Siaochang for much longer than indicated. Another fact (just FYI) is that Annie Buchan, the nurse (and a close friend of Eric's who had done missionary work with him in Siaochang) is actually the last person who was with Eric when he died. Joyce Stranks had called for help as you said when Eric convulsed, but Annie shooed her away. Annie remained by Eric's side as he convulsed again some time later, vomited, and went in and out of consciousness. Annie heard Eric's last words: "Annie, it's complete surrender to God."

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your source? Love this story and feel as though it should be told more often.

If you want to do him justice at least pronounce his name correctly 🤔

His name being pronounced properly was not what his life was about. Dont think he would have even corrected the narrator for mis-pronouncing his name..

The mandate he had from the Lord was all that mattered. He fought a good fight and kept the faith to the end.. henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the Roghteous Judge shall give to him. Not to him only but all those who love His (Christ) appearing .

Quite an unfortunate comment.

@@dovesbeatingheart.2834 Yes...it was unnecessary to mention the pronunciation. He totally missed the glory of the story.
