The whole series is pretty much unknown in the West, but it was supposedly a big hit in Japan, starting from PCE-CD in particular. My fav game in the series is The 4th Apocalypse on the Saturn/PSP, since it takes place in the wackiest version of the US imaginable. They're poking fun at the US in more ways than one, from mecha fights in Hollywood, through songs about being fat and eating sweets, to a singer who enchants people with her pop songs to do her bidding. Makes sense though, since the series is to a large degree based on cultural misconceptions. Also, Red Company created another famous game series in Japan, Sakura Wars - yet again fairly unpopular in the West.

The game is notoriously difficult to emulate, from what I've seen- specifically in the sound department. I downloaded and patched it myself and tested it in both VBA and No$GBA. No$GBA emulated the music properly, but only after a certain point- basically past the title screen and the intro, then complete silence barring sound effects. Meanwhile, VBA didn't emulate the sound correctly at all.

probably because Developers are greedy and they don't want any risk, just go for the proven moneymakers
@duffman18
@duffman18 4 года назад
Because porting is very difficult and expensive. It's not just copy and pasting the code into a switch game or PS4 game or whatever. It costs time and money. And so they have to weigh the risk of whether people will actually buy it and whether they'll make enough money back to cover the cost of porting it, and maybe hopefully make a little bit of profit. But yeah it's difficult. There's a reason that there's game dev studios entirely dedicated to porting, like M2 for example, because you need experts to be able to do it and make it accurate and put in extra features such as save states. And that's just porting. Doing a official English translation (and don't forget, if the do that then they need to also translate it to Spanish, Italian, German, French etc and another dozen languages) costs a lot of money to do it properly and do it well, do it in a way that's faithful to the original story/text. Translators don't come cheap, and it takes a lot of time, a lot of back and forth between the original writers and the translators, correcting hundreds of lines and stuff. It takes ages. Remastering/remaking is even more difficult and expensive. It's literally remaking a game from the ground up, and somehow having to try and preserve the feel of the original game as perfectly and accurately as possible while also updating it. They have the advantage of not having the first 6 months of development that usually goes to designing the mechanics and the world and the controls etc, the game is already there designed and they just have to copy it. But still, remaking it from the ground up is just as hard as making a game from scratch, there's gonna be months and months and months of bug testing and general game testing. All that costs money, lots of employees to pay. It's all about money
@ChrisEbz
@ChrisEbz 4 года назад
@@Shinmsl They aren't "greedy", it's a business meant to make money. You think a company would run itself into the ground because someone wanted a rare remake? Companies that can spare the extra $change for fan service or appreciation of their older work are less likely to go belly up and also use it as marketing if it's worth it.

I'm trying to think if there are *any* Final Fantasy games that can make that claim. I want to say FFVIII and FFIX are extremely good about it, with only a few enemies that are palette swaps. :O rando question: do you think getting a SNES Classic to make it a emulation machine is worth it ? Or just use a emulator on PC? If PC which emulator do you prefer ^^?

What in the world would we do without you? On one hand I appreciate finding out about games that I WANT to play but have never heard of, not to mention that nice feeling of comraderie that goes with having similar experiences with certain titles... but on the OTHER hand I hate it because I'm an adult now and can't just spend my days playing games like I used to. Unless I win the lottery 🤔...

I love this game (mostly because of the art). I wish your video had better quality for the gameplay.. doesn't do it justice, even at 720p.

Great video, but could you make the "Snnnnnnnes Drunk" intro a little longer please? It's not bad, but I just think it could be amazing if you drew it out a bit more...

Isn't this the same franchise in which the fighting game Kabuki Klash was based on? Cool!

I love the Far East Of Eden - Kabuki Klash game on the NEOGEO! I guess it's one that you have to play *any* way you can.

Yeah, no palette swap but one dungeon with multiple floors only have two different enemies. This game is boring and I already lowered my expectations

I tried to play an English patched version of this on my snes mini but I just can’t get it to run. I’ve played other patched games on my snes mini so I don’t know why this one doesn’t work.

You only really get a ground breaking JRPG every few years or so. Then it's a series of copy cats.

Any chance you can do the first Xenogears game on PS1? I liked it at the time, but would enjoy your take on it.

Hey, nice vid but could you please not put a red border in the thumbnail of your videos? I nearly ignored it because my viewed videos are showed with a red bar underneath.

If you think this game has a lot of text, try the "Trails of..." games. Dear God...
