Yes there was an original version of this video from last week, that was age restricted and deleted for a nude code segment. This version removes that segment, replaces it with two new hoaxes and includes an intro. Enjoy!
I remember making up my own "playground rumor" that if you complete Marineland in the Jumpstart MMO twice, and select the mermaid tail both times, you'd get the gold tail an NPC had. Only this year did I learn that it was a scrapped option, to the point that if you tried loading it in, it would show as the default- despite the NPC. I also remember the Club Penguin 60 Minute Ninja rumor, thinking it was a faster way to become a ninja than the official method.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Animal Crossing City Folk rumour that if you saw Resetti 50 times, he would delete your save file forcing you to start over. Many people got scared of losing their towns, although the deletion has never been confirmed.
It's definitely fake. The closest thing I can think of that matches what you're describing is the fake-out "Resetti deleting your town" from the Gamecube Animal Crossing. @@lrgogo1517
I just love the idea someone worked tirelessly on a character only for them to be the most hidden thing ever and only unlockable by the most absurd, impossible and downright outrageous way known to man
I especially like the idea of Nintendo adding Luigi to Mario 64, and only vaguely hinting at his existence through a blurry sign that says “L is real” and expecting kids to figure out they’d need to run 2000 laps around to unlock him.
thats what im doing kinda. imma have one of the bosses in my game be an unlockable character by doing like the most stupid thing and having like a separate save file and everything
Here's a rumor that I've known about since I was a kid: BLiNX: the Time Sweeper has a fake cheat that was spread onto most game cheat sites. It says that the start gate will sometimes act like the goal gate if you jump early enough. The start gate is an entirely different object from the goal in the game's code and it's literally impossible for it to suddenly start acting like the goal. Coming in contact with the start gate sets Blinx's current movement state to 1 (jumping) and plays the closing animation for it. The game also runs at 30fps and allows you to hold A during the loading screen (if you aren't already holding it before the said loading screen starts) to do a jump on the first possible frame, proving that this is fake information.
15:24 reading it, I think they may be referencing soft resetting the console. I would have to pull out my copy of Soulcalibur to see if that is legit or just made up, but I do know soft resetting the DC using the face buttons + Start is a real thing and works in every game.
Does anyone else remember reading those gameinformer magazines? I remember one issue mentioning an upcoming spin off to Mario Maker called Star Fox Maker and it even came with a screenshot. I couldn't find the screenshot that was shown, but I did find many articles about the topic
There is some lost media for a game I played many years ago called Epic Mickey. First of all, after the second game released the studio shut down, and there was a third game in development that was cancelled. There are currently two pieces of concept art for the game, but nothing else. There is an article on it in the lost media wiki. The other piece regarding the game was that the game director Warren Spector had pitched an Epic Mickey movie trailer to Disney, the trailer has never been revealed to the public, and it is unknown if it still exists or not. The trailer does not have a page on the LMW, as the only source came from a Reddit AMA, which has only a picture left from it. The picture is on the Epic Mickey wiki. If I could have any help finding this, it would be a dream come true
The segment on fighting game characters from more obscure titles made me think about Gameboy Color game Dragon Ball Z Legendary Super Warriors, a late release and still one of my favorites. It came out in late 2002 and despite being fresh out of high school I ate up the online discussion about three hidden characters only available in the Japanese version. To this day I'm still not even sure if it was all a hoax or not as the game had some very weird unlock methods for stuff that was most definitely in the game and the characters in question aren't hyped as being more than a glorified pallet swap.
i remember learning about the spiny-eared pichu event in hg/ss and laughing at my friend in the face. like yeah ill get a shiny pichu and bring it to this place, and your uncle works at nintendo too right? and my jaw dropping when it worked
It’s crazy how the internet has made it so much harder to pass rumors. Like, we spent a whole night trying to beat 20 kills in cruel man melee to unlock Sonic 😂
A couple of rumors that wasted my time as a kid: -Unlock Wolfen as a playable vehicle in Star Fox 64 multiplayer mode by getting some absurd high score on Expert -Encounter "Gold Weapon" in FF7 by fighting 100 cactuars on Cactus Island
I remember when the "Zelda 3" event happened, I also remember someone on a forum I frequented releasing an encrypted rar file that supposedly contained the dumped rom, but nobody there ever figured out the password
Those Megaton pixels looked like Leela, Bender, and possibly Fry to me. A Futurama game that came out for PlayStation and Xbox in 2003 was also supposed to come out for GameCube, but was cancelled.
I’d never even heard rumors about him… I had just assumed he was in the game, but I hadn’t unlocked him. I hadn’t found Luigi or Wario either, so it wasn’t like he was special or anything. and if you’d asked me then, I’d have told you he was on the cover art of the game. Suffice to say, child me was disappointed after 8 years when I finally opened the last door… and all I got was one lousy star.
I had a feeling that Metroid 64 one ended up being yet another hoax. All those gaming magazine hoax’s used to tick me off so much. Still haven’t forgiven EGM for that Mushroom Kingdom Hearts one to this day, GOD was I so hyped for that one being the Kingdom Hearts fan I was at the time I saw that. That Naruto Clash of Ninja one though, I never knew about. I mean I know of Rock Lee being a playable unlockable in the first game but Nine Tailed Naruto and Shariigan Kakashi? I’m pretty sure those were never playable until the sequels unless I’ve mistaken.
Bruh, I remember the mushroom kingdom hearts one too!! I was super into Kingdom Hearts as a teenager (Was KH3 awful or have I just grown up??) and I was so hyped for that. It's easy to forget how convincing rumors used to be for kids with no internet access who just had access to magazines and stuff. How are you supposed to know better?? I guess being in the April issue is a pretty big hint, but still.
I can remember that last hoax I fell for were the 2012 Minecraft PS3 hoaxes that existed shortly after the game was released on Xbox 360 at 14 years old. I remember so many people made videos to link to .rar file downloads that supposedly contained installation files, but the websites will require you to fill out surveys that can never be submitted. I remember spending a whole year on those hoaxes along with Xbox 360 fanboys at the time leaving insulting responses to my comments made me lose hope on a PS3 port coming out until it was officially announced shortly after entering that state of mind. Luckily, I got and enjoyed the actual port, but I ended up prefering the PC version more.
Sonic no doubt has had so many rumors over the decades. Plenty forgotten at this rate. One example is Sonic Genesis: The Origin of Chaos. There was never much about this game. All there is that Sonic would have traveled back into the past (again). This time to see the creation of the emeralds. Ironically, the mutated chao wasn't to have any involvement despite the name Chaos in the game's title. Eggman wants the emeralds at their strongest (guess we're going to ignore the existence of Super Emeralds; although they technically are the Chaos Emeralds). There was a supposed futuristic casino stage. This one likely hasn't become truly obscure yet; but there's Sonic Unlimited (or Sonic Rose). Sonic and Amy Rose would be the main characters. Amy would have more vertical originated stages; while Sonic would have occasional "situational" parkour. This game would apparently tie into Sonic Prime. There'd be a large focus on the two characters exploring relatively open areas to discover the true history of the hedgehog species. Tails built a flying base just to look for an artifact that ties into this lost history. Ironically, something that did technically come true was that the final boss in Frontiers resembles a moon to Sonic (or in the game rumored game's case it was supposed to be a reoccurring antagonist that is connected to the moon). Believe it or not, it was also claimed that the Sonic Prime cast would completely replace the current cast...despite the fact the reason for Sonic Prime having a drastically different cast is due to it being a Canadian production and there's a law in that country that ensures they mainly hire Canadian talent due to fears of American voice actors and actresses driving out competition. There are a couple of reboot rumors that went nowhere in the long run. One reboot rumor claims Sonic was supposed to get a new start in 2014. The main thing to note would be the focus on toys to life model. An official magazine (Electronic Gaming Magazine) talked about a Sonic Sega CD game different from Sonic CD that was to be called Sonic 2: Escape from Ring Zone. It was to feature graphical effects that are never seen in Sonic CD or even the actual Sonic 2. It's possible that plans for Sonic CD changed over time; like how there seemingly seems to be earlier story material for Mega Man X. However, it's more likely this one was made up. Other rumors that seemed to have been forgotten can be found on a SonicStadium forum called 'What rumors/false info from past Sonic games do you remember?'. A couple of highlights for me are include an old Unleashed rumor claiming that it would occur on a new world called Mubuz; with the new villain being a dragon named Immarius. Sonic would become a werehog to take on the infected inhabitants turned beast. Something else that was refereed to as Sonic Excursion. Apparently there was a rather old rumor to rival PokeGods and that was the claim you could unlock a chaos chao garden. Which doesn't even make sense since there's a large focus on hero and dark unlike in Adventure 1 and the neutral garden is basically the starting garden. Another but less crazy one is Hawaiian shirt Shadow in Sonic Boom. A forgotten Sonic Heroes cheat code that required you to input in a rival fight just to have playable Super Sonic. There was Sonic Dimensions; which was a big rumor back then. You'd basically play as multiple Sonics that had different colored fur and they would lose different amount of rings. The last one I'm willing to mention is just silly; Eggman was going to evolve into a walrus at the end of Unleashed. Whoever came up with that last one must have been laughing their butts off.
There is a videogame rumor from almost a decade ago. I was talking with a man who owned a game store back in the 90s and the topic of the 3DO M2 came up. Now the 3DO M2 was a console that was cancelled a few months before release in 1997 and was far more powerful than the N64, but less powerful than the Dreamcast. He said that he had good connections with a warehouse in New Jersey that was supposed to ship them and that the consoles were still stored there as recent as 2014. As far as what warehouse, he refused to answer as he didn't want people sneaking into his friend's warehouse which is understandable. I will say that the prospect of a cancelled console's new stock hiding in a warehouse is exciting and makes me want to drive the 5 hours to get there.
I have to say, having not grown up with gaming magazines, it's kinda surprising to learn just how much misinformation they spread back in the day. I mean, it makes sense, since as you pointed out the bullshit articles would often be used to pad out the magazine in time for deadlines, but still, you'd think something as seemingly trustworthy as a large scale publication would avoid such practices.
in the style of the time, i played pokemon blue and in my 1 hour blocks of using the local libraries computer (default search engine yahoo on internet explorer) i had days of reading fansites and rumors and real cheats and fake cheats. all sorts of ones about raising a certain pokemon without rare candies, the magazine one where i was never quite sure Yellow had a Yoshi sprite because I fudged some of the steps. pikablu and 4th evolutions and "oaks secret garden" and mewthree (with the armor) were all things I tried. there was something about raising a starter then renaming it at mr fuji to evolve it to its 4th form, charcolt or sapisaur, or unlocking venustoise (from the anime)
I remember one about using the item finder 100 times on different tiles in Mt Moon to unlock something, I tried it of course haha I also remember something about a secret hm called Blast or something to get into Oak's garden, where you could catch any Pokemon
Not sure if this constitutes as forgotten as it's still easy to find "information" on this fake Fire Emblem game. However, the Fire Emblem fanbase understandably stopped talking about it for years now. The rumored title was Fire Emblem: Blue Sacred Sword and Red Demon Lance. It was meant to take place in the same continent as Blazing Sword and Binding Blade. The main characters were to be the princess of Bern and prince of Lycia. It was meant for the 3DS. Ironically, there was a Fire Emblem announced for the 3DS. However, it wasn't the blatantly false rumored title. It was instead Fire Emblem Awakening; which in itself takes place long after a previous Fire Emblem game (New Mystery of the Emblem).
Hey LSupersonicQ I know this video is diffrent from your lost media videos, but the Blues clues pilot blue prints was found about 2 weeks ago, I was wondering what your thoughts on it are.
I remember I fell for the hoax in EGM that you could unlock Sonic in Super Smash Bros Melee by some ridiculously hard challenge. I don't remember what the challenge was, but I tried it for weeks and never unlocked sonic.
I remember falling for a fake Animal Crossing: Wild World cheat on GameWinners back in the day. It said to visit Nook's shop on the dead of night and knock on the back of his store with a shovel until a wall broke. Then Nook would let you in to do some late night shopping. I had no idea at the time that this cheat was distorted from the actual secret in one of the JP-exclusive AC titles. Plus my young self didn't want to mess with the DS clock, so I actually stayed up late to try out the cheat and ended up going to be feeling stupid.
I seem to recall a rumor from years ago involving Pokemon Snap 2. No, not New Pokemon Snap. Instead, it was a bogus rumor that claimed you would literally be hunting Pokemon. Not sure if it was meant to be satire or if the person who created it really was trying to trick people. I tried looking for it recently, but either the website that had that small snippet of text is long gone or the rumor was effectively buried deep away once New Pokemon Snap became a thing. I don't believe it was ever a particularly big rumor.
Actually, there is another instance of "Rankles". In Sonic Archie comics, where Knuckles fused with The Master Emerald. That way, for quite a few issues, Knuckles was just green, empowered by the Master Emerald energy.
Recently I replayed BIONICLE Heroes but on the PlayStation, and there are rumors of unlockables online. According to GameFaqs, you can unlock a character named Gurrahk, one of the bosses of the game, by simply beating the level in which they are in. Also allegedly unlockable is the character Takua Nuva from the previous BIONICLE game, by beating the game with all 6 hero characters. I have yet to find a single source proving that either of these are true. I have played the boss stage with Gurrahk and beaten it, and there was no change to the playable roster. If they meant for the achievement to be unlocked, then why single this one out from all the others when it has no additional features? And I've played other console versions of this game with no change after beating that level, other than progressing to the next one. I'm hoping to get these rumors rectified, even though it's been 17 years since the game released.
Soul Calibur was called Soul Edge on the Dreamcast (and Saturn, or Playstation, or both. I owned it for DC). I remember when the name was changed to Soul Caliber, when the games moved on to multi console releases.
When I was a kid I bought rumors about Waluigi in Super Mario 64 DS hook line and sinker, to the point where it’s probably my most completed game in the series just because I would hardfocus every theory I heard, which often included getting all the stars. It got to the point where I started taking ‘advice’ on it from a special needs kid I’d sit next to on the bus who would tell me that there’s a hidden cannon in Tall Tall Mountain that would shoot me to where I could unlock him. Kept me busy at least.
This was before my time, but I remember seeing rumors for Hey You Pikachu that you have to speak to Pikachu with a thick Japanese accent when playing the English version because it was programmed and tested only by Japanese people with English as a second language lol. To this day I still don't know if that rumor was just people being racist or actually true lol. It would kinda make sense for why the game's voice controls are so notoriously bad... I've never actually played the game and can't do accents, though, so I could never test it oit.
i remember all the way back in 2000, my uncle and his friends were playing Driver 2, and there was a rumor about a hidden switch at the church, he and his friends never found it nor did i when i tried xD found out it was a rumor that spread all the way back then. dunno how they found out about it but i guess he had the internet back then XD
"fake cheat codes" *God dammit dude, those things were ruining me when i was younger,* i wasn't even able to trust anything that could give me infinite rare candies or master balls from legit sources
I remember spending hours searching about secrets and cheats for Zelda games in the mid 00s, most notably Ocarina of Time and at least half of them were completely false (good old Overture of Sages, Beta Quest, Unicorn Fountain under Zora's Domain, Biggoron's Dungeon in TMC, permanent Fierce Deity Link in MM without glitches, etc.), but it's funny nowadays because a lot of them were only fun glitches that became extremely important years later for speedrunning, like Ocarina Items, Forest Escape (usually with cartridge tilting, but I remember reading about Navi Dive), Swordless Link, even some minor things that helped discover Item Manipulation a lot later. Magazines were such a shitshow for hoaxes at the time, I'm too young to have read any of them myself, but I've read a lot about these online, from Sheng Long in SF2, Ermac in MK, Nuder Raider, Luigi in Mario 64 (L is real, of course), Peach in SSBM, All Bonds in GoldenEye 007, resurrecting Aerith, all that "good" shit. I understand they had to publish something and if they had an "exclusive" news, it would attract readers, but that's so deceptive, it's kinda incredible that nobody cared. It's also kinda funny that those rumours persisted into the 10s, with things like Herobrine in Minecraft, all those fake Pokémon leaks or hell, even Polybius in a certain way. They're nowhere near as common as in the 90s / 00s, but they're still here, people are still falling for fake rumours becasue they want to believe.
back in the gta san andreas days, i was super invested in the conspiracies online. bigfoot, leatherface, aliens, ghosts in the woods, etc. i tried so many things to try to capture anything strange with the camera lol.
Why is no one talking about the Luigi with teeth in thumbnail? He looks like he’s wearing old peoples gums in his teeth, they are so wide and uncanny. He’s trying to show them off like this pictures in the dentist. It just feels weird Lol.??
Kinda funny how many sonic debug alt. Colour sprites have taken on lives of their own with the fans, as far as other games, the infamous was probably the Zelda 1 Santa costume sprite.
When Virtua Racing Deluxe was released on the 32X, one of the stages had a large, open, and empty area added to it. Sega Magazine claimed that you had to drive onto it and then use your car to 'write' DAYTONA (it had to be in capitals.) If this was done successfully, it added texture mapping to the game, bringing it closer to the graphics of Daytona USA. Was it complete nonsense? Of course. Would you have to be an idiot to believe it? Absolutely. Did I try to do it? FOR HOURS.
Except that one is technically true. In NES Metroid; she'll either be wearing her armor, regular clothes, or in her undies and bra depending on how much time you spent. In Fusion and Zero Mission, you get to see her wearing civilian clothing on some endings. Factors are time, difficulty, and item collection percentage.
I think the first rumor that someone told me that was actually true was MISSINGO. It just sounds so fake and arbitrary, but at least it's easy to try out and doesn't waste a lot of your time like a lot of rumored secrets.
I've very rarely ever fallen for obscure rumors and hoaxes. It was mainly the big stuff that I fell for (though I didn't fall for that EGM Kingdom Hearts x Mario April Fools or that one video of Rayman being in a Smash Bros roster); one being not that many years ago. The main one I remember is in regards to Marty the "green" thwomp from Mario Kart 64. I remember finding his behavior in the jail cell so unusual and I've wondered what he did to make Bowser punish him. Not mention in Mario Kart Wii that thanks to different lighting, he no longer looks green. There was the claims of the Bowser statue tying into freeing him or even racing around the track in reverse order. While there are rom hacks that allow for you to play as Marty; the ways of freeing him in the normal game basically amounted to nothing. This one was never really a hoax, but I've tried to find ways to get onto that boat in Mario Kart 64 with DK's Jungle Parkway. Another one would be the running man from Ocarina of Time. Apparently Ura Zelda would've had a quest that allowed for you to find a way to defeat him in a race for real. The popular rumor that was going on though was that you could potentially already do that in Ocarina of Time as it is. I've tried a few different ways to finally get a one-up on him. Of course, it's now known he is always programmed to have a slightly lower time than you. At one point, I had found out that the gossip stones will react to bomb explosions and fly into the air. This made me wonder if I would potentially get into the Temple of Light or Sky Temple by using the Hookshot on them. Of course, I came to the realization that there's no real point to doing any of that and the programmers just decided it would be fun to have the gossip stones react in different ways. But hey, I did have some fun messing around with a gossip stone trying out that experiment. I bought into the Tails Doll curse with the Saturn version of Sonic R. With the supposed claim of the GCN version not having that curse due to the Nintendo seal; the version of the game I actually still have. The most recent one I fell for are the anti-piracy screens for Mario Party DS. The person mainly responsible for them put out convincing looking stuff; especially one where Monty Mole punishes Luigi for being in a pirated copy. Usually, games will just simply prevent you from playing them if they detect the copy is pirated. However, it's not unheard of games to do something more than that. Two well known examples are Earthbound and Ocarina of Time. Earthbound intentionally starts trying to throw an unusual amount of enemies at you to try to crash the game and if you make it to the final boss; the game locks up, erases the save file, and then boots you back to the title screen. As for Ocarina of Time, it's not known why a programmer made it so in one cutscene Zelda's hair becomes wacky. In a later instance, the bars that Zelda is supposed to make go away stay in place at Ganondorf's castle.
I never believed in the extra temples in OoT because I really only got into the game with the 2011 remaster, but for a while I was confused about the gossip stones because I thought that there HAD TO BE a bigger secret tied to them. I mean, why would they launch into the sky from bombs? Flatten with the hammer? Release an extra large secret fairy from the song of storms that you couldn't bottle? But I guess those unique interactions WERE the secrets because most people only ever hit them with the sword or talked to them using the mask of truth. I know there's a lot of videos of colored gauntlets in OoT but since the tricks to get them have always been too hard for me, I still don't entirely believe that they're real things you can obtain. Especially in the 3DS remake. I read a lot of creepypastas growing up so for a while I ended up being too scared to play Sonic R on Gems collection because I feared that it would be too easy to accidentally trigger Tails Doll just by playing as him or doing those tag races. I ended up having constant paranoia about it and nightmares almost daily for years until one day I smashed the head crystal in a dream and all of the terror stopped. I didn't even know at the time that the crystal was canonically its source of energy!
I would love to hear your thoughts and on recently discovered and rom dumped Um Jammer Lammy NOW arcade rom! An arcade port of a beloved video game gone missing for 20+ years has finally surfaced!
Not Nintendo. But I remember the two infamous easter eggs in Runescape to aquire a lightsaber or katana. You had to have crafting 99, drag a saphire over a diamond and fuse it into a "saber crystal". Then drag the crystal over Silverlight and itd turn into a lightsaber
I still think, the reason these hoax’s were popular was due to Mew being very real, and the often nonsensical things you would have to do to unlock smash brothers characters
Anyone remember that video where the guy says a specific set of instructions you need to do to get a smiley face in FNAF 1? Or that video that claims you can get Luigi in Super Mario 64/Land 2?
I Remember that hoax cheat about getting the infernus car in GTA IV via a cell phone cheat for you guys don't know that car is a very rare vehicle in the game only available via a mission reward and a very rare spawnpoint in traffic So anyway i remember seeing youtube videos about this supposed cheat either using mods or some being screamers vids and one i remember video showing how to get it but seconds later it turned into a japanese mcdonalds commercial which was a small meme back in the day
Bro the video froze when he mentioned the purple yoshi thing, and purple yoshi just appeared slowy, and LsupersonicQ just stopped talking and it was really creepy, and then I realized that it’s just my internet
