Forgotten Spooky Garden Building - Isle Of Wight 

Oh it's owned by someone Just needs some attention. It's in the north east.

brianartillery Cheers. I think there was indeed some degree of delirium in these grounds once. Gardeners building would be my guess. It is strange though, & not just because of its age. I've not seen anything else quite like it anywhere.. 🤔

@@Oske.images Its not just an ornamental building thats for sure. Whilst it could have been used for storing garden or games items, the degree of strength in the building & the way it is almost built into the earth, tucked down like that, makes me think this was probably constructed for some wartime purpose. Bomb shelter (with a strong shutter over window, which would function as an escape route), /ammunition store,/ armoured hiding place,/ last ditch point of resistance? Its too heavily built for a hide for bird watching. If the trees & brush were cleared would that window give a view on to some sort of route someone might have wanted to keep watch on? Any ideas?

@@sarahstrong7174 I believe it must be a gardeners store.. It's deep in a walled garden., No view out to anything.. But it is very impressive.

@@Oske.images Well it is very strongly built for a gardeners store. Maybe the sloping nature of the land necessitated the strength of construction, to prevent the outer wall from slipping, or perhaps it was built by people who normally built for military purposes. The brickwork reminds me of the forts on Portsdown hill. I wonder if the person who owned the property was something big in the military & 'borrowed' some workers for a few days.

Poor mad Uncle Tom, he was suffering from PTSD you know but they didn't understand it in those days. Aunt Maria begged the commander not to have the men in full dress uniform, including swords, but no one listened to her, she was a gentle soul. I think she had an inkling of what would happen. It was always said there was 'second sight' in her side of the family. Tom would have been fine if he had stayed home growing the fabulous clove scented Carnations, he eventually became quite well known for in gardening circles but he would insist on attending these formal occasions, where unfortunately he could be a bit of a loose cannon. Not to mention that time that time when he would go to the corperals Weekend Shoot, that was a total disaster & as I said to lady Roberts...............
