7:00 -- LOL! She's tugging her costume out from where it's riding up into her crack in the leftmost panel! With all the stripperrific costumes you see in comic books, that almost never happens!

Honestly, it's characters like this one that really prop up the notion of a shared comics universe. I mean, most of the time the big-gun characters - Batman, Superman, all those - don't really need anyone else; they work perfectly well in their own little bubble-worlds. But glorious weirdos like this lady? Clearly, they 'belong' to no one; they must show up all over the place, or else what's the point? They make no sense in a universe that ISN'T shared.

That Defenders storyline with Ruby and the Headmen was the most bizarre comic I've ever read. More bizarre than Morrison's Animal Man. Besides the odd characters, it was about Nighthawk's brain being literally stolen and replaced by one of the Headmen, and it even ended up leading into a cool story arc of Valkyrie in a women's prison. Comics just don't have the imagination to attempt stuff like this anymore.

I never heard of her before this. I can't believe she's fought Spider-Man. Great video. I love this series and that you revel all these Rouges to the light.

Honestly, I can get behind Ruby's initial scheme. What's the downside of having one of these technological dome heads exactly? That everyone would look the same? Well, no, the heads have shapeshifting capabilities. You could have one of these heads and still look like you did before getting it. (This would actually be great for people who have an addiction to plastic surgery.) That the head is more delicate than a human head? Nope. Ruby fights with her head as her main weapon. Sure, her head basically was shot and exploded at one point but what human skull doesn't do the exact same thing? The only practical argument I can really see to work against her plan would be the notion of viruses. Could a computer virus infect and alter the software of these dome heads? We don't know, at least not based on what the comic has shown. Far as we know, Ruby's brain and personality was transferred effectively into this dome head and I would imagine the technology is unique enough that no viruses compatible for it currently exist, but who's to say that wouldn't end up being the case if the dome heads were more widespread? Even if one wants to argue "oh, but then thousands of people could pretend to be someone else and there would be widespread identity fraud" I'd still argue that with the expanded usage of the dome heads there would be a demand to create a way of reading identifiable signatures. Maybe it means we start doing DNA scans instead of face scans. As technology advances, people find workarounds to legal loopholes all the time. Ruby can replace my head with a techno dome any day. (Also, glad to see her get a little more love online. I'm one of the few people who draw Ruby Thursday fanart and I seriously think she deserves more attention and affection XD)

I have never heard of this character before, yet I loved her more and more with every second of your video. Such a quirky and fun character! From what you've shown us, she strikes me as being more oddball than intentionally comedic. Here's the thing though, unlike other bizarre characters that you see in comics every so often, she doesn't feel all that awkward once you get past her appearance. Looking at the panels in the video, Ruby seems to fit rather comfortably in these stories, and comes off like a real character instead of just the fever dream of some writer with a deadline. That said, I completely agree with you that her background shouldn't be fleshed out too much. At least not for the sake of making her more 'grounded' or 'relatable.'. Not all characters need to be relatable to be interesting or compelling. Weirdness is its own flavor and has its own appeal.

Ever since I first heard of this character I thought she was fascinating. Some people don't like her, but I think that's because they treat her like a joke in the comics. I mean... she mutilated herself. Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it. I mean, shes' decapitated! There is so much story potential! Is she a human brain downloaded onto a computer? Is she a computer that only thinks she's human? Did an insane woman create an insane AI? or did a reasonable woman accidentally drive herself insane with her newest invention? Then there's her powers. Projectiles, shapeshifting, super intelligence... she should be able to give Dr. Doom and Tony Stark a scare with her command over tech. There is so much untapped potential.

Another great choice for this series. Bizarre truly is an excellent word to describe the Headmen (really underrated group of villains BTW)

Ruby Thursday's design and shapeshifting orb head feels like something out of a Kojima game. I can imagine her fitting perfectly in the Metal Gear Solid universe.

To me, everything about her design screams "Bond villain style criminal mastermind with a small army of goons" so it's a shame we never get to see her be more than just a background character anymore.

I bought the Defenders issue off the shelf at the grocery store where they fought The Headmen. I remember it was weird and creepy. I remember the fawn with Chondo's soul in it, and I remember Ruby Thursday's single panel origin story where she blows her own head off so she can install the red sphere. I also Remember The Headman pretty much kicking the Defender's button. Nighthawk was always getting beaten up. Really great, creative stuff, throwing onto bold relief how wretched comics are today.

I f*cking love all the Headmen, but Ruby Thursday's the coolest by far. If I ever get to do a Marvel cartoon, their inclusion's going to be a top priority for me. I personally see them as She-Hulk villains due to their weird yet somewhat effective abilities fitting her Rogues the best (if she can go around tangling with the likes of Man-Elephant/Behemoth and Abominatrix, I don't think the Headmen are too silly for her to fight). Going back to Ruby herself though, my favourite thing about her is her personality; an emotionless, hyper-rational sex maniac with a cold & detached outlook on the world. There's some genuinely great stuff there that could be explored, and if Marvel's looking for more female villains to graduate up to A-List status, Ruby's up there with Nekra (a She-Devil villain I looked into recently who rivals Harley Quinn in terms of a f*cked up romantic life) and Thundra regarding her potential for interesting future stories.

Is there any comic creator from Missouri, half as talented as Steve Gerber? I personally doubt that anyone will be as out they're as Gerber was, he will never be forgotten despite being dead for many a year.

I think the msot interesting thing to Ruby visually is that her head isn't even all that proportional to the average size of a head usually. It looks MUCH smaller than it should be, or at least to my eyes, so that makes it look even weirder and strangely even more noticable.

I have the web of spider-man issue she appeared in. It was really bizarre though because even though it was the first in a 4 part story arc the next 3 issues were totally unrelated. But another forgotten Rogue Wilhelm Von Vile appears in the next 3 issues of that same arc. He first appeared in strange tales and his power basically was painting pictures with a paint set from another planet and bringing what he painted to life. Thats another video though and I seriously think you should consider making it. Mr Doll would also be a good one.

I loved a wiseguy hero for hire commenting she had the body of a porn star and a blow pop for a head. Too many diabolical plots for her to get what she wants could be done but The house of rodent controls marvel and wants mega buck block busters only.

The reason why the character is forgotten is because it was stupid as hell.

Her origin should be she’s a crazy person who loved round things like globes, spheres, and circles so much she became a scientist to find a way to make everything sphere shape starting with her own head. Ridiculous origin for a ridiculous character.

So how does that work does she have a brain how can she see out of that how did she get her face off and put it on so many questions because she took off her face so how did she put it on with no brain

Too bad she never got ahead in her supervillain career.
