I'll 'sub' the first time, because you included the Wabash Railroad-- not all the travelogue folks do that. Not sure how you pick your towns, but they're different than the others'. Thanks for highlighting the Wabash Valley, as its part of a pocket of the country I haven't covered well, although I've been to all the lower 48..
I live in Greenhill, my house was in the video. lol That building without half the roof was an old freemason lodge, not a fire station. There is a freemason symbol on the front of the building. The other bigger building used to be the post office, and im sure other stuff throught the years. It's quiet and you can see the stars out here. Plus being super close to Lafayette/West Lafayette makes it a perfect place for me. Thanx for the vid, it was pretty interesting.
Appreciate this video. I spent a good portion of my childhood in 5 different houses in Warren County. West Lebanon and Williamsport both, were a lot busier in the 70's. I lived in one of those "dilapidated" buildings next to the water falls. It was quite impressive after a lot of rain. It is sad to see how much those two towns have changed since I lived there. It was while I lived there that SR 63 was built. Remember those days well. In fact, it was completed just in time for the Blizzard of '78. We moved to southern Fountain County in '79. Mom and Dad worked in, both, Danville and Lafayette. Know those towns pretty well too.
I really like how you did that comparison shot with the original map with the current Google maps image back to back on each of the towns. I don’t know if I recall you doing that before, but either way, I thought that added a lot to the presentation.
Beautifully done and really touched my heart and soul as I have driven around here before. As usual you really captured it so well. I have been lucky to see the waterfall in Williamsport actually having water and it is sad you did not get to hear or see it as it really is pretty when that happens. I also suspect the more favorable tax and business atmosphere in Indiana you have pointed out in detail in other videos actually has prevented a worse look and more hope for the future. A shout out for your comment on Midwest weather...spot on!
I was working on a CB&Q that's a railroad , a fireman on the locomotive, then one day I saw a little baby crawling along the track a baby mind you. And I grabbed that baby, and I flung it into a nice pile of soft leaves. Me well I didn't make out so good. Fractured my leg. The baby was all right. Today that baby is president of Vons supermarket you think he ever took the trouble to thank me, no sir! Rich folks got short memories.
You should check out Cayuga/ Eugene Indiana! We are probably the smallest town in vermillion county Indiana. Cayuga and Eugene are technically two different towns but it’s all considered Eugene township.
Great video Chris and Warren county has been like this forever. People that live there don't like big towns or cities and the slow boring pace is just what they want. Farmers rule there and the ones who don't like farming I agree the kids move to more exciting cities to chase their dreams. After that trip your Blazer needs some TLC from Indiana dirt roads!!!!!
If you think this area is rural, you should check out our lil corner of the world. Southern Indiana is mainly rural. Obviously, the closer ya get to Louisville KY, the more people. But Lawrence, Orange, Martin & Washington counties are all quite rural. There's probably more cows, than people 😉 definitely more chickens! It is very beautiful down here, tho. Thanks to the hills & hollers. Much love ~from southern Indiana ❤️
I NEVER put my glass in poud, only plastic, but do occassionally load noises (onto my iPod). And apparenlty a gun is not a weapon (guns/weapons) in that county. Nice one Chris.
I am VERY surprised that you did not include anything about Pine Village which is located in the NE portion of Warren County and due west of West Lafayette. It actually still has an elementary school and before consolidation with Seeger Memorial in 1973, the high school was known as the Pine Village Pine Knots. Another often overlooked historical note is that Pine Village once was the home of Indiana's first pro football team and one of the first professional football teams in the US (1915). The team, known as the Villagers had it's beginning in 1898 when Clinton Beckett introduced football to Pine Village High School. Eventually, the team opted to go pro in 1915 and even had the great Jim Thorpe on it's roster for a time. Just so everyone knows, I grew up in Indiana but not in Warren County. It would have been nice to have mentioned some about Pine Village other than just in passing.
Reminds me of the movie Hoosiers. Lol, all of this urban vs rural. I grew up in a small town but would never want to live there. That was where my parent's chose to live. It was fantastic but that was their life. I couldn't deal with it now. I love urban life and it fits who I am. I need to have a choice of everything and be by stuff and people. I need to be near the airport, the gym, my work, my friends, my groups, etc. I am also near so many parks that you would never know I am in the city. I guess everyone lives where they need to be and what makes them happy. I just love seeing these videos and seeing places I will never see in person.
Years back I lived in a small town in Maine, the town had one signal light. May not have been much there as far as shopping but the town was almost like a family.
Random find of the video, just a drop-by viewer here. You can tell dude isn't from Indiana. We don't pronounce Lafayette the French way. It's with a longer 'E'. More "La-fē-yet", rather than "La-fai-et".
Might as well check it out. Milford is just 20 minutes from Lafayette? Someone should build some "Tiny Homes" and apartments and rent them to college students for a few hundred$/month less than a run down apartment closer to Purdue. Population could double in one year. They turn on the water and lights after dark at the falls.
I was born and raised in Benton County, just to the north of Warren, and when I saw the title "Indiana's Most Secluded County", I thought for sure you'd be talking about Benton, but you're pretty close. 😅
Actually there are two Indiana State Parks just south of Warren County. You'll just have to travel on US 41 to get there. both Turkey Run State Park and Shades State Park are just south of Warren County.
All other politicians just flipped the people of state line city the double bird never bothering to stop. Lincoln grew up in Indiana from age 6-16. Kentucky and Illinois take all the credit for this great president. Yeah lots of corn out here but good people. Thanks for your report! Safe travels!
As someone who lives in a former small town that was too close to a big city and interstate, I beg the small town residents to fight tooth and nail to keep out big box stores, subdivisions, strip malls, warehouses, factories and city developers . As well as those who try to seduce the residents and town leaders with bringing in more tax money. Don't sell your soul.
Small towns are often the best; i live in a wealthy area, and i will guarantee that most would watch you die. As where a small town most will take their shirt off their back for a stranger. I will be back to the middle of nowhere sooner than later and hell with the internet.
I’m from northern Indiana and we were raised that those rural parts were dangerous for minorities. I think if they didn’t have that reputation, they’d be booming because people want affordable housing and would drive just to be able to own a home in this economy. My opinion.
@@badxradxandy Many of the cities/towns in northwestern and central parts of Indiana were considered "sundown towns" The Wabash Valley, in many ways, is an extension of Kentucky. It was only a little over 120 years ago that the Ku Klux Klan had control of the state government in Indiana.
Heck yeah! Road trips for a lifetime while jamming to some awful radio. Subscribing to the RU-vid channel is free, or you can subscribe for $300 a month to avoid commercials...
That is gravel dust on the car not filth. The Walmart is not in Warren Co. so why do you mention it? The crop duster who died is a family friend. Not much history? Try stopping at one of those libraries and asking. Your video is a shallow hack job on a lovely community.
Why is the north-south 4-lane highway in this area Indiana Highway 63 while the main north-south 2-lane highway in this area is US Highway 41? It seems peculiar that the state highway is the wider and faster route while the federal highway is the narrower and slower route. If I were driving between Chicago and Evansville and wanted to make good time rather than go sightseeing, I'd take the 4-lane route. (It's also shorter, so there's even less reason to use the 2-lane route.) So that means switching from US 41 to Indiana 63 and back to US 41. It would make much more sense to put the US 41 designation on the 4-lane route between Carbondale and Terre Haute and put the Indiana 63 designation on the 2-lane route between these two places. Anyone driving between Chicago and Evansville could just stick to US 41 and not have to change routes.
